taylan
dunno about any issues on the BT layer. I think BakaBT fails to record my seeding when I don't first log in on their web interface with my IP though. at least that's the feeling I often got when trying to pump up my seed ratio
wgreenhouse
taylan: i.e. it's leaky for the same reason bitcoin is horribly leaky; client stats make you perfectly unique unless everyone starts out with a complete copy of the file at the same time
ryouma
taylan: mac address is apparently not hte only identifier and i could be wrong, but IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=00:1a:a0:ea:43:d4:00:16:b6:c8:60:66:08:00 SRC=114.107.245.190 DST=192.168.1.104 LEN=52 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=50 ID=3479 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=3648 DPT=42315 WINDOW=256 RES=0x00 ACK URGP=0
wgreenhouse
taylan: that sounds like a problem at their web interface, not that they don't have the data
i.e. cache coherence
taylan
ok
ryouma: I'm guessing that's the MAC of your router or some other device in-between
ryouma
could be, dunno
taylan
but not a TCP/IP wiz either
mrmyers
wgreenhouse: I'm not sure how they're competing. If researcher X compiled a detailed generative grammar of L that seems to capture many common uses of the language, it immediately provides a valuable tool in studying children learning L, in that you can compare their speech at various stages against it.
wgreenhouse
mrmyers: when that's done it tends to show that they don't learn in that order :D which is as close as we can get to falsification here

benaiah
rihbyne: hey, how goes
didi
Sometimes I wonder how good it would be if we banned cars from cities.
nzst
didi: have you seen videos of morning commutes in cities that are majorly bike riders, it's amazing
wgreenhouse
ryouma: that's your router MAC, evidently a Dell
didi
nzst: Nice.
ryouma
wgreenhouse: did i just make myself vulnerable in some way?
nzst
didi: vids like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-AbPav5E5M
ryouma
(other than knowing it's a dell)
corpus
hello. anyone wanna share screenshots of their emacs? i wanna decide on some good themes
didi
nzst: Looks fun even.
benaiah
(Action) needs to write a craigslist scraper that lets him browse and filter faster
wgreenhouse
ryouma: probably not. at least not without more info not supplied.
ryouma
(Action) looks into changing his lan ip and mac address
i wonder if it's possible to force my isp to get me a new ip address
wgreenhouse
ryouma: the first six digits are the vendor info, and harder to change
ryouma: MACs don't survive IPv4 NAT. they can survive in IPv6 land, as one of the sources of your global ipv6 address
Fuco
damn, been debugging an issue for 30 minutes... because (foo (bar baz)) instead of (foo (bar) baz)
wgreenhouse
unless set up to be generated some other way
Fuco
elisp needs types! this would never happen in haskell
corpus
here we go
ryouma
Fuco: defstruct is the best you can do i guess
Fuco
No HM inference? Pff

didi
Let's re-implement SirFuco in Haskell.
mrmyers
wgreenhouse: There's no 'in that order' though here. A generative grammar in itself has no presupposition of how the language is learned.
Fuco
generative grammar is nonsense
you can't just purge semantics...
ryouma
wgreenhouse: do your objections hold against most of cognitive science also?
wgreenhouse
ryouma: some, e.g. evpsych is pretty bullsh*t. clinical stuff doesn't even pretend to be science
thomasfuston
,channel-wisdom
fsbot
I realised there's something about Emacs that attracts the sort of users I don't want to associate with: people who are smug, self-absorbed and utterly without empathy
ryouma
i don't consider those to be strong parts of cogsci
corpus
thomasfuston: lol
ryouma
clinical stuff often pretends to be scientific without being so
wgreenhouse
mrmyers: an expectation that language learners are climbing a ladder of formal "complexity" in grannar doesn't hold, nor do humans (except for grammarians and linguists!) learn about grammar apart from vocab and semantics
*grammar
corpus
can we have a sexiest emacs competition?
