hey guys, I use Emacs 23.2 running with -nw option on Mac. Does anyone know why rgrep would be really slow?
dim
tried ack?
JordiGH
How do you tell ido to create a file?
When finding it.
pgas
JordiGH: I press C-f to fall back to the olde find-file
JordiGH

hi folks
I'm having an issue with doc-view
I get the following message
No PNG support is available, or some conversion utility for pdf files is missing.
jordanb

disturb
I don't know if I missed something when building emacs from source, or if I'm just missing a dependency
ysph
disturb: do you have ghostscript installed with png support?
JordiGH
jordanb: You just discovered that, didn't you?
ysph
disturb: have a look at doc-view-ghostscript-program and make sure that program is available (i'm assuming you're trying to view a PDF)
disturb
oh thanks ysph t
it works now
need to document that

JordiGH
jordanb: You're getting more predictable than ams.
jordanb
In fact, he's not even a first semester poetry student.
JordiGH: Someday you're going to be embarassed that you ever liked that no-talent assclown.
JordiGH
Who, ams?
jordanb
embarrassed
JordiGH
He's amusing.
I wish we could have him back.
jordanb
Yeah that's exactly who I mean.
JordiGH
He's also nice as long as you talk about something other than GNU.
jordanb: When are you nice?
jordanb
dim
ams is pure troll, but with good emacs/elisp knowledge
still, a troll.
JordiGH
His music is fun.
legumbre
consolers should come back too
JordiGH
ams at least has the decency to stay banned.
jordanb
We should have xah back too.
I like it how xah and ams are friends.
,xah
fsbot
From memory, xahlee is http://xahlee.org

jlf
let's take the day off and have the bots do an #emacs clip show
jordanb
And how ams thinks that rms is his 'mentor'.
cvandusen
,jlf++
fsbot
Noted, cvandusen. One rms-point for jlf!
jlf
rudybot: good idea? or the *best* idea *ever*?
rudybot
jlf: best to use slime from cvs
jordanb
jlf. :)
jlf
rudybot: true, but unrelated
rudybot
jlf: Because the rest is unrelated to the bug, according to you
cvandusen
rudybot: you are correct, sir!
rudybot
cvandusen: basicly i was wondering if there was some tool to help you define a regexp using natural language and yes sir, there was
jordanb
rudybot: xahlee
rudybot
jordanb: seen xahlee
jordanb
rudybot: xah
rudybot
jordanb: wonders if xah is the tip of the spear
JordiGH

I've never seen xahlee before.
JordiGH
Haha.
The memory was too painful to keep.

if only we could all say the same
m-i-l-a-n
anyone in here actually using his ergoemacs?
JordiGH
I emacs therefore I am?
jordanb
rudybot: xah
rudybot
jordanb: Imagine if Xah Lee was emacs lead dev.
m-i-l-a-n
zomg.
JordiGH
I knew we would be getting remixes soon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqgLzCjg6ms
jordanb
He would insist on all the documentation being changed such that it's no longer valid english.
JordiGH
legumbre: ^^

technomancy: rudybot really needs botsmack functionality
JordiGH

i wasn't expecting that, since xahlee is no longer here ;)
cvandusen

fsbot
Ask yourself, do you really want to know?
jordanb
I am discovering that there are worse comics than xkcd on the internet.
jlf
let's drink a refreshing diet caffeinated malt liquor beverage with guarana
cvandusen

I'm looking at writing a semantic extension for ooc. I'm a little lost while reading the manuals (some are pretty incomplete) about how I'm supposed to test my lexers. I don't really see how I'm supposed to get semantic/bovine/wisent to run my code instead of the defaults. Any leads here?

locklace
nixeagle: you thought you could get emacs help here? haha
rirombo
Let's shall. For example, if anyone's using gnus/vm, how do you deal with gmail's indent-quotes?
nixeagle
bah 20 minutes or so later I find the answer :>. If you want to change the current lexer for a buffer you have to set the buffer local value semantic-lex-analyzer.
locklace: well I was expecting more then bored people with nothing better to do then do irc role playing
jlf
nixeagle: you must be new here
nixeagle

sohail
lol, no way
thunk
(Action) exchanges his dollars for RudyBucks
sohail
rudybot: what do you think of the compiler?
rudybot
sohail: the guys at brown made a javascript->scheme compiler
sohail
rudybot: was it a good compiler?
rudybot
sohail: The only question here is whether the compiler should adapt to the editor or the editor to the compiler.
sohail
rudybot: I think the editor should adapt to the compiler
rudybot
sohail: There's no other way to do it. The only slightly strange thing that we're doing is that we're building it with a relative path, and then change it to adapt for --prefix -- if we had it always use a --prefix we'd just get many more hard-wired paths.
sohail
AHA, A BS RESPONSE
jlf
rudybot: the compiler should adapt to the editor and the editor should adapt to the publisher
rudybot
jlf: So how does academic publishing work? Most researchers are funded by grants, I'm guessing these are typically unconditional because somehow the papers written as a result of the research are locked up by Springer (or some similar publisher).
jlf
rudybot: obviously the publisher should adapt to the advertisers
rudybot
jlf: piss off the advertisers i guess

(Action) doesn't seem to have that var in his Emacs either.
,,dv Man-notify-method
fsbot
Selects the behavior when manpage is ready.
This variable may have one of the following values, where (sf) means
that the frames are switched, so the manpage is displayed in the frame
where the man command was called from:
newframe -- put the manpage in its own frame (see `Man-frame-parameters') ..[Type ,more]
aidalgol
OK, that's stupid.
jlf
do any of these bots take memos or must i resort to memoserv?
rudybot: take a memo!
