(replace-regexp "num=\"[0-9]+\"" "num=\"\#\"") is failing to substitute in the replacement count
i figured that it was just being swallowed by parsing, but \\# gives me (error "Invalid use of `\\' in replacement text")

GERRRRRRRR
The only autocomplete.el + Rope guide doesn't work with the current autocomplete =(

ericP
that's mean

(Action) wonders if there's a more elegant way to make find's -ls option show the full path than find `pwd` ...
ashawley
find /full/path/ ?
jlf: ohh that's what you mean
i thought you were doing find -exec or some such.
jlf
i want a flag to absolutize relative paths

mqt
how can I delete whitespace at the beginning of each line in a region?
bpalmer
ericP: iirc, \# is an interactive hack.
ericP: if you're doing it in elisp, do the while loop we all love.
ericP
huh, i guess that would work
quick example somehwere i can paste?
bpalmer
(while (re-search-forward "hi" nil t) (replace-match "hello")) <-- the formalizer.
would need adapted to the particulars of your thing.
jlf
mqt: keyboard macro or else replace-regexp to s/^[ ]*//

well, would like to, but amazon.com doesn't seem to follow the pattern established by rentboy.com

I don't think python autocomplete actually exists
Its a farce
jlf
M-/ ought to be enough for anybody
anxt
i think having autocomplete on tab by default is the reason bash got so popular with linux fanboys. you would have to type "man csh" to find out you could "set filec"
jordanb_
You have to by Emacs Pro for python autocomplete.
anxt: I think the issue was that bash was the default.
JordiGH
This is a fun read. http://infoworld.com/print/125854
anxt
jorhow much is the upgrade
JordiGH
Sir Stephen Jobs likes it his way.
jlf
and csh's completion is set to, what, C-d by default??

fsbot
Highly likely.
anxt
esc
jordanb_
anxt: It costs nothing, but you have to write it yourself.
JordiGH
(Action) wonders if that's too obscure of a joke.
technomancy
jordanb_: free as in puppies
jlf
anxt: but ESC does nothing if there are multiple expansions, in which case you have to hit C-d
anxt
yah
tcsh gives oyu a nice tab i guess
jlf
that is braindamage of the first degree
johnw
i'm surprised there isn't an xsh
haha, http://xsh.sourceforge.net/

JordiGH
Well, that didn't work.
Too obscure for Google
ashawley
ericP: If you do the interactive version of M-x replace-regexp and then do C-x ESC ESC you can see roughly the Elisp version.
JordiGH
I'm probably the only one who reads porn anymore.

*Read* porn?
I think you're doing it wrong.

I think you should read some too.

poincare101
hello. Is there anyway to do tabbing in vim? Sort of like geany. I need to modify a large codebase and I need a editor that can deal with lots of files at once
JordiGH
me 2
poincare101: tabbar-mode
,tabbar-mode
fsbot
From memory, TabBarMode is at http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?TabBarMode
JordiGH
Wait, you're asking about vim?
In #emacs?
GUARDS! SIEZE HIM!
jlf
(Action) releases the hounds
bpalmer
poincare101: vim can work with a lot of files at once without using tabs, mind you.
JordiGH
Yeah, you might be happier with ECB. Or with ibuffer.
anxt
cedet was 503d today
JordiGH
tabbar-mode is kinda nice, but if you have more than 5 buffers open, it's not great.
poincare101
bpalmer: yeah, I know, but tabs are nice.
bpalmer
ah, nice, vim supports tabs out of the box nowadays.
anxt
tmux works nicely with vi
JordiGH
I see the days of the great wars are past us.
bpalmer
poincare101: (I assume you've already seen http://www.linux.com/archive/feed/59533 ?)
this xsh seems interesting.
on the one hand, more readable than xsltproc
on the other hand, it's insane.
JordiGH
Hrm.
Is there a hook I can attach to both C and C++ mode
?
,g xsh
fsbot
bpalmer
c-mode-common-hook
JordiGH
Thanks.
bpalmer
will also be invoked for java-mode and other cc-derived modes.
JordiGH
That'll do.
(Action) has slayed the electric character dragon.

HexlMode is, like, [0] at http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?HexlMode
[1] hexl-find-file
JordiGH
Oh, hexl-mode.
Needs fixing.
digash
what kind of data structure in elisp prints out as #("bla")
jlf
i'm surprised that hexlmode doesn't support deleting characters
er, bytes
JordiGH
jlf: Or inserting them.
jlf
digash: vector
turbofail
really?
JordiGH
jlf: Or even searching for them.
turbofail
that looks more like a string with properties to me
jlf
it's the 21st century!!!11
turbofail
that would be a vector in scheme
ggole
That's a CL vector, not an elisp vector
digash
hmm, i thought vector prints out as []
turbofail
#("foo" ...) usually means a string with properties
jlf
oops :)
contextswitchfail
digash
ah, that makes more sense
how do i get rid of all the properties and just make into a string?
i see substring-no-properties, is that the best way?
turbofail
yeah
digash
turbofail: thanks
pjb``
digash: but a string with properties IS a string!
There's no point in removing them, normally.
turbofail
also true
pjb``
It takes more time and space to remove them than not.
digash
i see my problem, i was using format %S, and it prints it with #()
capital case %S vs %s, thanks, i've spend 30 minutes trying to figure out what is going on
pjb``
Yes, %S is about equivalent to ~S in Cl, while %s is ~A.
digash
and CL is case insensitive about params to format, that is where my confusion came from

cluck
JordiGH: riiiiight ;)

turbofail: ocean's closed?
ldlework
pjb``, a ship carrying food, water, toys and building materials makes the crew terrorists?
jordanb_
ldlework, According to isreal, cement is a weapon.
I think the idea is that they could use the the wheelchairs to build a makeshift trebuchet, and then use the cement to make rocks for flinging.
You might think that a wheelchair-trebuchet wouldn't be very effective.
On the other hand, the rockets weren't actually hiting anything either.
pjb``
ldlework: If I were a terrorist, I would bring food, water, "toys" such as AK47, and building materials such as TNT...
ldlework
pjb`` do you have a source?
pjb``
The Israel Government?
:-)
jordanb_
Even the Isrealis aren't trying to argue that there were guns aboard.
ldlework
pjb``, I think you're making sh*t up
jlf
Doh! weapons pictures were from 2006.. http://i.imgur.com/u9Kul.jpg
jordanb_
Their argument is that 1) cement is a weapon (seriously) 2) That the boat was a "hate boat" (Netanyaho's exact words (basically, a holocaust defense)) and 3) Isreal has a right to starve the people of Gaza, and everyone else should butt out.
jlf: Haha, snap!
jlf
oh man they had marbles... http://www.flickr.com/photos/israel-mfa/4658972617/
can you imagine the massive slip-and-fall injuries they could have inflicted on those elite commandos???

ldlework
wow
ggole
jlf: they were hate marbles.
Extra slippery.
ldlework
God, I can get yasnippits to work but I can't get autocomplete to use its popup
God doesn't care does it..
ggole
Nope. He uses vim.
(Or possibly, ed.)
ldlework
Well that explains lot
jordanb_
God uses Emacs on Multics.
The Universe is the last Multics site.
Well.
The Universe is a program running *on* a mutlitcs site, from god's home directory.
He doesn't have administer privledges on the machine itself.
