is there a way to start ansi-term and not have it ask what program I want to run ? the default of /bin/bash works fine for me

how can I disable org-mode in emacs? it makes emacs behave weird, I can't even close a buffer sometimes, and M-x org-mode doesn't turn it off. I often get errors when pressing a key like: undefined variable ans1 (paraphrased)

mns
interesting that <C-h m> does not work in ansi-term. how do I find the keybindings for it then ? like for scrolling up and such ?
jlf
boscop: what do you mean you can't close a buffer?
mns: C-c C-h
boscop
jlf, no matter what key combo I try, I always get that error
because org-mode is messing things up
I can only close emacs and restart it
jlf
boscop: ,,-q ?
fsbot
jlf, From memory, -q is if you start emacs with "emacs -q" and the problem goes away, it's YOUR FAULT; check your .emacs. If "emacs -q" has problems and "emacs -Q" does not, it's caused by your distro or local admin.
rgr
boscop: do you open .org files? How is org mode initialising?
boscop
it's a simple text file
and it hasn't happened a 2nd time yet
rgr
whats a simple text file? does it have a .org extension?
boscop
but it still bugs me that org-mode overrides my kbd settings like M-arrows
rgr
it doesnt.
only in org-mode key maps.
boscop
rgr, no, .txt, but I enabled org-mode in it
rgr
well, what do you expect?
jlf
,(require 'org)
fsbot
org
boscop
rgr, I know, but I need the keys there, too
jlf
,a org.*disputed
fsbot

jlf
boscop: did you try -q?
rgr
why would he? He has manually enabled org mode. Works as designed.

boscop
no, I just want to know how to disable org-mode
rgr
you said you enabled it yourself
boscop
yes
jlf
rgr: "I often get errors when pressing a key like: undefined variable ans1 (paraphrased)" is not as designed
boscop
and I also want to be able to disable it myself!
rgr
I'm not with you at all. Simply dont enable it. a txt file is not an org-mode file necessarily.
cvandusen
wouldn't he need to change the major mode of the file?
boscop
cvandusen, thanks

and a reality show to go with it
wgreenhouse
boscop: I don't understand. if org is enabled in a buffer, you can disable it with just M-x org-mode RET
boscop
wgreenhouse, no, because it's a major-mode
wgreenhouse
...
you can disable major modes...
what are you saying, man?
boscop
but it doesn't work this way, I tried
wgreenhouse
that's bizarre
jlf
M-x fundamental-mode
or whatever
ggole
You 'disable' major modes by changing major mode

although, I was thinking along the lines of "get me the hell out of org mode", not "I want to disable org mode"

(Action) indicates a distance between BP and himself
boscop

see, that's the kind of discourse i love about this channel

hi people
i'm using IDO-mode
I would like the unique charactesr of the options to show in a different face
example: if the options are 1234, 23 and 345
134 must show 1 in red, 23 in default face and in 345, the 34 in red
so i can know what i must type to get the stting
¿is there any way to enable this?
shabble
I don't know that there's anything built-in to do that
you might have to write it
marioxcc
:S
ok
thanks
