AAAA: And when I look at the paste you posted above, I see that you're setting both variables starting with mail- and variables starting with message- -- ...
AAAA: That looks very suspicious.
AAAA
i just paste and copy from examples
good thing is that im able to send email
jlf
AAAA: after you get this sorted you can start thinking about an irc client
feral

jlf

fsbot

[1] Try it with emacs-w3m,
[2] see gnusgmail, http://emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/GnusGmail

jlf: is gnus good? i read that VM is something worth trying
ive never touched any of them <<emacs noob
writer
feral: gnus is the Emacs of MUAs
feral
writer: dont you mean gnus is a MUA for emacs?
i think you confused me
writer
feral: what I meant is that Gnus is as extensible as Emacs
feral
ah

writer
:D
jlf
feral: no gnus is good gnus! ...imo :)
yonkeltron
i tried to use gnus. didn't work well.
writer

feral
yonkeltron: i ate a fish it did not taste good
abbe: how do i do this?
abbe

feral
abbe: http://emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/GnusGmail#toc2
i added that setting to my .emacs
and started emacs and got the symbol's value error
writer
feral: gnus definitions need to be in $HOME/.gnus
yonkeltron

kiba
hello
feral
hi kiba
kiba
how do I set the width of tab/indentation
for javscript mode?
(defvarlias 'javascript-indent-level 'tab-width) seem to have no effect whatsoever
mns
which javascript mode are you using ?
cvandusen
kiba: js-indent-level
you can set it like so: (setq js-indent-level 2)
AAAA
thx for the advices, goodnight
kiba
thanks
feral
any generic newsgroup anybody knows of? its annoying to get that error everytime gnus starts
jlf
,yow
fsbot
There's a SALE on STRETCH SOCKS down at the "7-11"!!
cvandusen
I am all over that!
yonkeltron
i still don't get why some things are in caps
damd
i still don't get what the fu*k yow is about
cvandusen
feral: I believe setting gnus-nntp-server to nil should do it
yonkeltron
damd: it's zippy the pinhead
feral
cvandusen: Unable to open nntp:nil, go offline? (y or n)
jlf
think of it as syndicated zen koans
yonkeltron
jlf: the worst ones ever, you mean?
cvandusen
(Action) wonders how koans are judged...
jlf
BUDDHA is three pounds of FLAX!!
feral
cvandusen: they are not judged they either work or they dont.
AimHere
Wait, yow still works? All I get is the single Cabbage-brained quote presumable because of some lawyerly attention
jlf
,yow.lines
fsbot
I think yow.lines is http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/emacs/emacs/etc/yow.lines?hideattic=0&revision=1.10
AimHere
*presumably
cvandusen
feral: tell that to yonkeltron
yonkeltron
AimHere: the zippy db is copyright
phobbs

AimHere
I figured that
cvandusen
feral: do you have the select methods & mail sources set?
yonkeltron
select methods are great
jgh
So who got the latest FSF propaganda?
damd
don't work half-hearted or irresponsibly - now you're in charge
...actually i stole that one from pol pot
should that be "half-heartedly" btw?
phobbs
yes
jlf
jgh: what kind of propaganda?
jgh
I'm glad you asked.
http://www.defectivebydesign.org/dayagainstdrm2010
damd
i must say that the anti-DRM campaign is not that convincing
jlf
i'm surprised they didn't do that on mayday
damd
sure, we all feel that DRM is crap, but is it really *that* big of a deal?
can't we just use non-DRM stuff?
jgh
damd: First, they came for, oh, whatever.
bozhidar
some stuff like recent games are impossible to find in DRM-less state
sure they're not free software, but most of us are sinners ;-)
jgh
bozhidar: I don't get games. I must be getting old.
damd
M-x tetris RET is my game
phobbs
melee is my game
=]
jlf
what, no dunnet?
bozhidar
as I get older I don't play much games either, but I was still thrilled to see they finally announced a release date for SC2
damd
is nethack gnu?
AimHere
If you're made to use Windows after Vista or XP SP2 at work or sth, you can't use non-DRM stuff ever
damd
AimHere: windows 7 means DRM?
AimHere
Nethack isn't GNU, and it's not GPLed
jgh
bozhidar: What's SC2?
AimHere
It calls home checking to see if it's pirated regularly
jgh
Soulcalibur 2?
bozhidar
StarCraft 2
damd
fu*king DRM man
jgh
damd: nethack is bsd-like, I bet. It uses vim keys, so it can't be GNU.
bozhidar
12 years to make a sequel, blizzard sure weren't in a hurry
AimHere
Nethack uses the Nethack License, based on the Bison license, which is a sort of proto GPL version 1
phobbs
huh
jlf
jgh: so does gnu screen!
phobbs
jlf: good point
jgh
jlf: Yeah, as a concession, but not by default.
damd
jgh: "man" uses "vim keys"
jlf
jgh: ?
jgh
damd: less does
damd
man uses less?
AimHere
I direct #emacs' attention to VIPER mode
jgh
Yeah.
jlf
there are no emacs style bindings for screen's scrollback unless it has changed recently
damd
i...i had no idea :|
bozhidar
you can use another pager
jgh
damd: It used to use more, which sucked.
bozhidar
it's configurable
damd
man -P more
yeah, more sucks
jgh
I first met more in MS DOS.
damd
won't someone use a more-like program but name it moar?
jgh
Boy, those were days full of suck.
I can't believe I ever thought command.com was a decent shell.

damd: When I first encountered bash in 2001 or thereabouts, it was a breath of fresh air.
jlf
(Action) feels old
damd
jgh: i only first used non-windows in 2004 or so... hated it at first, but soon realised that you can actually start doing cool stuff now that you're not using windows.
i tried every single window manager that was out there, and i did not have superuser access mind you, and i did not know jack about the ./configure routine
it was quite an experience!!!
oh yes it was
not like writing a fu*king buildsystem in windows batch scripts
JordiGH
Could be worse.
Could be no build system. :-)
shabble
for a long long time, my build system was up-enter :)
damd
to be honest, to me, this "build system" is just in the way all the time
i should be able to use "python manage.py runserver", but fu*k me, that doesn't work... i have to start up "Command Prompt.cmd" (!?) which only opens in one specific directory no matter where i start it from. then i have to "cd" my way to the right place from there
"Command Prompt.cmd" does some "cool stuff" which "automatically" detects whether there are new dependencies and sets the environment variables FOR YOU so you can't override them
perfect, just what i need
shabble
cygwin!
damd
shabble: i'm still screwed, because we only do windows development
JordiGH
My opinion about build systems is that they all suck, but at least they get the building done.
damd
and oh yeah, how about that, we use ASP.NET even though *no one* at my company knew ASP.NET prior to starting the project
JordiGH
Building is a chore no matter how you cut it.
damd
2/3 people knew python/django though, but guess what, still screwed, because the sales people can't sell open source solutions
JordiGH
Sell open source problems with them, two for one, marketing genuis.
damd
we wasted six fu*king months and tens of thousands of dollars on a crappy enterprise CMS which we eventually had to throw away because it simply did not do the trick... now *someone* told management about that just a month into the project, but *someone* did not listen.
i hate my life sometimes
jlf
damd: that's so cute how you haven't totally given up yet!

damd
madpickle: what good would that do? i still program asp.net
madpickle
oh, sorry
