bpalmer emacs is my familiar monkey, so before you say that which you mean, know first that which you say.Alternativly, shutup or keep thy fingers from thy keyboard.

Not torturing is what the Terrorists want us to do.
Why are you an enemy of Freedom?
bremner_
I wonder what the official bible of torture apologists is.

hi folks
rgr
I think its nice that taxedenoughalrea and co will pay more taxes so hobos can have their nails clipped.
jordanb
I like it how all the tea partyers are old white people on medicare.
jlf`
they're taxing tanning salons now.. boehner's got to be pissed about that
jordanb
And their complaints are vague on policy but seem to drip with racism-induced distrust of our president.

I've this erc issue where it sends a different chan message for
every line wrap, so when typing long sentences, they are split... like

anyone might know how to prevent this ?

I think the clip of him screaming 'Hell no we won't' as he pounds on the table gets play in the next election.

jordanb: He was drunk.

I just loved the contrast between Boehner's speech and Pelosi's.
jordanb
Pelosi always sounds like a school teacher.
quotemstr
Pelosi sounds personable and relaxed while being forceful and intelligent at the same time.
jlf`
(Action) wonders if everyone pronounces that guy's name as boner or if he's the only one
i'm still pissed at pelosi for taking impeachment off the table but somewhat less so today
jordanb
It would have been a horrible diversion.
quotemstr
jlf: He never would have been convicted.
jlf`
i'm not too sure about either of those assertions
quotemstr
The wingers would have screeched and opposed it to the same degree they opposed health care, but with more resources and more votes, they would have won.
jlf`
it's worth a diversion to enforce the rule of law imo
quotemstr
The Republicans, at the very least, would have run out the clock.
jordanb
Anyway, Bush was just a figurehead. I'd rather see someone like Cheney get brought up, and he still could FWIU.
quotemstr
jlf: There should be prosecutions *now*.
jlf`
quotemstr: once the subpoenas started flying i think the country would have gotten behind it
quotemstr: i agree
bpalmer
disturb: turn off fill mode
quotemstr
I wish John Yoo's tenure would be revoked.
bremner_
jlf`: right, like the country is behind civil trials for terrrrrorrrisssts.
jordanb
jlf`: A lot of people thought that about Iran Contra, but the president managed to confuse the issue and the press gave it superficial treatment so the public didn't really know what was being argued.
All they knew is that Olver North sure did look like a Real American up there in his marine uniform.
jlf`
still important to make the effort imo
quotemstr
To play Devil's Advocate, the Valerie Plame situation would have been easier to pitch.
disturb
bpalmer: d'oh thanks
jordanb
quotemstr: They did get convictions off of that.
quotemstr
jordanb: Henchmen only.
jordanb
They couldn't go any higher. And since Patrick Fitzgerald was the prosecutor, you can be sure they didn't give up early.
quotemstr
Don't forget that Bush also commuted Libby's sentence.
jordanb
Yeah that's his prerogative as president.
quotemstr
If Bush had been charged, do you have any doubt that Cheney would have pardoned him (then gone on to ruin the country)?
jordanb
Ford pardoned Nixon.
quotemstr
Which was bogus, because Nixon hadn't actually been convicted.
jlf`
quotemstr: not if cheney were convicted first
quotemstr
You shouldn't be able to preemptively pardon someone.
jlf`: If Cheney had been impeached first, Bush would have appointed a new vice president who shared his views.
jordanb
Well I think Cheney is a truly evil person. Not that he's the only one. Of all of them, he's the one I'd most like to see in jail.
Just as a matter of justice.
jlf`
quotemstr: ?
pres doesn't appoint a new vp, the speaker of the house moves up
quotemstr
jlf`: Not according to the twenty-fifth amendment.
jordanb
Ford was appointed after Nixon's first guy went down in flames.
jlf`
oh you're correct. in that case i doubt very much whether congress would confirm bush's nominated vp if cheney were to have been convicted and bush was under a cloud.
jordanb
The only president never to be elected on a presidental ticket.
quotemstr
jlf`: But the entire situation would leave government paralyzed.
jordanb
Not being willing to paralyze the government is a weakness of the democrats.
jlf`
anyway i agree that there should be prosecutions now
jordanb
The republicans would burn the capitol down if it gave them some marginal political advantage.
quotemstr
Don't forget that impeachment requires a *two thirds* majority.
It's hard enough to get 60 votes, much less 67.

I'm trying to fix some faces. my gui is light background, my terminal is dark... but apparently NOT dark according to emacs. Also not type tty. I'm running out of options here... what to do?
I also did (set-default 'frame-background-mode (if window-system 'light 'dark)) but that seems ... rude

yates
does (irc) log channels when you're on them?
rgr
no
some channels are indpendently logged
freenode does not
yates
rgr: i meant the emacs package "irc" :)
disturb
I use ido fine, and backspace back to the root, and as I reach it I get : Process *tramp/scp fcp* exited abnormally with code 255
in a new buffer
*ido-find-file
rgr
I didnt even know there was a package called irc
yates
i posted something, then quit, now it's gone - is it really gone?
i think it's aliased to rcirc
rgr
if you quite then how can you expect it to have logged it?
yates
ok, thanks anyway
rgr
quit
yates
i dunno - maybe like a running backup
zenspider
disturb: scp fcp ?
rgr
no
yates
ok, thanks
bpalmer
it could simply ensure you can log any time you want, but you can never leave.
zenspider
disturb: iirc, it shouldn't be that method... but I could be wrong
disturb: but usually that type of stuff is a .profile that is noisy on login
rgr
yashi: there is a caching irc server that you can connect erc to which logs things (caches). damned if I can recall the name.
zenspider
rgr: logging is usually sent to a file. seems straightforward to me
erc has a log module... I don't see why rcirc wouldn't
rgr
no one said it didnt.
seems traightforward to me ...
ther eis a difference between an always on irc proxy with cache/log and the client logging if and when you start the client.
zenspider
your response of "no" implied it didn't. that's how I took it. I'm pretty sure that's how yates took it
rgr
zenspider: then you took it wrong.
I specifically said how can he expect the client to log it if he quit the client.
zenspider
and he specifically asked about something he posted before he quit...
rgr
true, but he moved on to general logging and mumbled something about a "back up process" after he quit.
which is why I mentioned a proxy irc erver.
zenspider
well then that was complete misinformation
rgr
no it wasnt since, unless I am totally wrong, rcirc does not log by default. There was no log. And with the client not running there will be no logging. HENCE I mentioned caching/logging irc proxies or whatever you want to call it. But thanks for being picky. I'll leave it to you next time to divine he means rcirc when he says "does irc log channels" .....

try C-x d first
then run the command from dired
vinhdizzo
i see&there's no flag for shell-command that refers to the current buffer's filename?
