when I change branch in magit, the change is not reflected in the buffer containing a sourcefile. I have to kill buffer and reload file. Is there a better way?
shabble
does M-x revert-buffer work?
bjonnh
pye : post your emacs, do a screenshot of your current emacs
shabble
if so, there's auto-revert-mode which will do that magically for you
bjonnh
i would like to see yours :p
hanDerPeder
shabble: thanks, again

bjonnh: is that sr-speedbar?

bjonnh
shabble, yes
but I tell it to show the buffers (added a keystroke to change this behaviour on demand)
Nafai
What's sr-speedbar?
shabble
single-frame speedbar
Nafai
Is that shipped with regular speedbar code?
shabble
iirc it's on the wiki
Nafai

which kind of key combinaison are not in use in emacs ?
I want to use awesome again. But I need to put keybindings that would not take the emacs ones

jlf
bjonnh: we saved C-c <letter> for you
rryouumaa
c-c x are usually reserved
bjonnh
hmm
and ctrl and meta ?

hyper and super
and sometimes duper
Nafai
bjonnh: When I used xmonad, I used super (mapped to the stupid Windows key) as the key for my wm
bjonnh
okay
It's not that stupid, it adds a new modifier ;)
shabble
how many modifiers can emacs support?
Colloguy
does rcirc support ssl (perhaps through some addon)?
shabble
(Action) considers making a space cadet keyboard
enthymene
:3 @ shabble
also Colloguy: have you tried asking in #rcirc?
Colloguy
oh there's a #rcirc
enthymene
yep :3
see you there
they probably know as much as the regular #emacs crowd
shabble
looks like control, meta, hyper, super is the standard set.
any advances?
enthymene
cokebottle
I'd wanna add non-functioning "panic" and "self-destruct" keys
just for fun
also I'd remove the ESC key
and replace it with "Meta"
because THERE IS NO ESCAPE
bpalmer
shabble: hmm? You're missing alt
enthymene
alt meta hyper super shift...
but aren't alt and meta the same?
bpalmer
nope.
on keyboards that only provide alt, it often gets remapped to be meta, for emacs
enthymene
ah
well then, I'd certainly like a space-cadet keyboard
hehe, gotta love Darksair's quit message
jvogel
hi, if i have autocomplete on filenames, how what do i do again to create a file if that regex matches another file

Hi guys. Does anyone here use erc ? I'm trying to figure out how to start a private message session.

I don't know that term. Type ".index r" to see the terms in my database starting with 'r'.

sorry bobdobbs, I use rcirc
maybe it's in the manual somewhere
jvogel

that mode
bobdobbs
enthymene I haven't been able to find it in the manual, alas.
enthymene
damn
legumbre
bobdobbs: /query foo

Like, I know I can use the msg command in the channel's buffer, but I'd like to be able to open a new buffer for the dialogue.

gnuvince
Quick poll: do you prefer ido or iswitchb for switching buffers?
Nafai
<- ido
jvogel
Nafai: how do i create a file if the regex matches another file
like LinkedList.java if LinkedListIterator.java exists
i do C-x C-f and there's something I do to save it anyway... i forget
legumbre
gnuvince: iswitchb
Nafai
jvogel: just a sec
I just have to hit enter before it searches for it
jvogel
lol what
Doesn't work fo rme
gnuvince
I ask, because I noticed in my Hg log for my init.el file, and I have changed from ido to iswitchb and back about 4 times
legumbre
I used ido first, then changed to iswitchb. Never looked back.
jvogel: doesn't C-x C-f C-f do it?
(Action) hasn't used ido in a while
gnuvince
legumbre: what about for opening files?
legumbre
gnuvince: well, I found out iswitchb virtual buffers worked most of the time.
gnuvince: that's all the help I need for files
mns
virtual buffers ?

what exactly is that key binding ?
M-s-s ?
C-s-s ?
jlf
s- is super
shabble
Intensity: I'm not exactly familiar with emacs guts, but finding a way to reproduce it would seem like a good start.
what was the original bug you submitted?
jlf
devinus: it's often bound to the windows key
shabble
I didn't realise you could emulate H- and s- with C-x @ (h|s) http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Modifier-Keys.html
derrida
is there a slime binding/command similar to C-c C-c that will evaluate the function a form defines?
shabble: that's neat about modifiers
never knew that either

why is carbon emacs or aquamacs always so flickery?

From memory, -q is if you start emacs with "emacs -q" and the problem goes away, it's YOUR FAULT; check your .emacs. If "emacs -q" has problems and "emacs -Q" does not, it's caused by your distro or local admin.
