laurus-
My org-publish functions are all byte compiled. How do I get it to show the real source code?
fledermaus
shader: garak works fine in a terminal
laurus-
I absolutely hate this debugger
It just suddenly dies while I'm stepping through with no explanation
kodein
should ideally be .el.gz files in the same dir, I think
or .el files
laurus-
"wrong type argument stringp nil" means it was supposed to be stringp but was nil?
fledermaus
yes
laurus-
Oh I get it
C-u C-M-x only works within one function it doesn't jump between them?
fledermaus
it's bound to eval-defun here.
don't see why that would ever jump to another defun
laurus-
I don't know why I'm so addicted to this but I am
:P

shader
laurus-: addicted to what?
laurus-
Debugging this stupid elisp stuff
:p
I really know nothing about what I'm doing here
shader
fledermaus: when I try running garak, I get the error "Invalid image type png"
fledermaus
shader: odd, shouldn't happen. let me try.
ersatzmaus
hmm. couple of display bugs seem to have crept in but basically it works
fledermaus
shader: have you got any garak or elim related customisations/settings that might interfere?
ersatzmaus
because it's working here.
also, what version of emacs, what version of garak, where did you get it etc.
shader
well, it may be that it still works even after the error
ersatzmaus
I don't get that error. there's code to check if images are supported, it shouldn't even try if you're in a terminal
shader
hmm
fledermaus
I do get some other errors, but they're not fatal.
might as well fix those, while I'm here.
shader
I think I downloaded the most recent tarball linked to on the emacs wiki page for ELIM
Piratero
Does anyone have a fix for when Emacs is running on a terminal?
My backspace is calling help and not deleting any characters.
shader
Piratero: a fix for what?
what does C-h k <backspace> say?
shabble
Piratero: sounds like your backspace is sending C-h
what OS/Terminal?
fledermaus
,C-h
fsbot
ERROR: Wrong number of arguments: (lambda (sym &rest thing) "

fsbot
fledermaus: I think backspace is [0] to change C-h and backspace confusion, use M-x normal-erase-is-backspace-mode
[1] use 'stty erase C-v BS' before starting emacs (xemacs) if Backspace sends C-h,
[2] Turn off "delete is DEL" in xterm, ..[Type ,more]
shabble
ah, good ol' fsbot
is there any (non-irc) interface to his wisdom?

Piratero
shabble: GNU/Linux, VT
shabble
Piratero: the 'stty ...' line from fsbot there should work, then.
fledermaus
shader: what terminal [emulator] are you runing in?
shader
hmm
screen over ssh
Piratero
shabble: I tried fixing it by doing: http://codepad.org/jL7T3FRJ
shader: Thanks!
fledermaus
does it work outside screen?
shader
good question, I'll try it
fledermaus
also are you forwarding the X connection via ssh?
shader
no
the remote box doesn't even have X
fledermaus
just checking
shader
still get the error
I'll look through the readme again to see if I forgot something while installing it
fledermaus
well, there are some other terminal errors, I'm fixing those.
I'll do a release, probably tomorrow, try that when it's out.
if you can toggle-debug-on-error and get me a backtrace, that would be helpfule too
shader
how would you pastebin from emacs?
stepnem
depends on what pastebin you're using
kodein
using xml-rpc, perhaps
stepnem
there are interfaces to pastie and lisppaste AFAIK
fledermaus
,lisppaste
fsbot
lisppaste is [0] an auto-announcing listing host (pastebin) <http://paste.lisp.org/new/emacs>, <http://emacswiki.org/wiki/lisppaste>
[1] see ,lisppaste.el for an Emacs interface, ..[Type ,more]

[2] if down, try <http://hpaste.org>, <http://pastebin.ca>, <http://imageshack.us>, <http://www.porsbo.org/pastebin> or <http://pastebin.com>,

lisppaste
laurus- pasted "untitled" at http://paste.lisp.org/display/95724
laurus-
Could anyone help me figure out why that function is taking a nil instead of a stringp even when I pass in the proper parameters?
I think it's related to org-export-region-as-heml
But I'm totally lost here...
lisppaste
shader pasted "garak debug" at http://paste.lisp.org/display/95727
shader
cool
fledermaus: hopefully that will help
fledermaus
thanks
is this an X capable emacs running in a terminal, or emacs-nox?
shader
I think it's emacs-nox
fledermaus
that must be the problem, I'll have to add extra checks for that.
you can customise garak-display-splash to nil to stop it trying to display the splash, but it'll probably encounter similar problems with the buddy list
worth a shot though
aha, the tree widget code already has checks, but that initial startup screen doesn't.
should be an easy fix.
shader
well, setting garak-display-splash to nil definitely makes a difference
how do you start a chat session with a particular buddy on IM?
nm, I figured it out
fledermaus
if they're in ... ok
the README should say
shader
the buddy list seems to have gotten confused
fledermaus
or you can hit enter on them in the buddy list
yeah
shader
yes, it does
fledermaus
you can reset it with M-x garak-gui RET
I'm working on those bugs nnow
shader
thanks
fledermaus
hmm.
looks like when running with icons the widget code drops you just before the widget...
but running without it drops you on the first char
so the widget update code gets confused in text mode about which widget it's updating.
shader
interesting
is text-mode supposed to show buddy status?
fledermaus
yes
that whole code path is a bit fu*ked up by this off by 1 problem though
shader
ok
do all of the garak buffers need to be kept open?
fledermaus
how do you mean?
they don't need to be visible.
shader
I was wondering if I could close the garak and Garak buffers, without terminating the process
and maybe even get them back again by calling a function later
fledermaus
erm... pass :)
You can just switch to another buffer
but closing them is probably bad juju
shader
lol
ok
fledermaus
hrrr, this widget code is going to get messy.
shader
sorry to hear that
so, apparently I can close the buffers without terminating my IM session
fledermaus
good to know.
shader
though I don't think that I can reopen the garak windows without creating a new elim process
oh well
I'll just leave them in the background for now; not too painful ^^
thanks for your help fledermaus
chrisb
(Action) just found out about ezbl
wgreenhouse
(Action) is certain that either ezbl or minno will be his main browser in the future--for now, it's Conkeror.
chrisb
wgreenhouse: i'll check out minno...thanks
wgreenhouse
it is pretty incomplete as they are basically creating a Qt package for Scheme and then writing the browser with /that/
so that it will be a WebKit browser that's configurable with something actually Lispy
instead of (ugh) JavaScript like in Conkeror
chrisb
wgreenhouse: i can't find out anything about minno
wgreenhouse
chrisb, http://minno.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi
and http://sqeme.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi
^^ the Qt project for Gambit Scheme
chrisb
wgreenhouse: thanks
laurus
How do I print a value of a variable in elisp when a function runs?
fledermaus
(message "%S" whatever)
laurus
Thanks! :)
zeus
uff
wgreenhouse
the Yale "secret societies" try to be more cult-like, but really they just have goofier inductions
oops, wrong channel
zeus
people if someone can send or help in anyway to the earthquake that we suffer here in Chile please do it
there's a lot of homeless people and we will need lot of support
fledermaus
zeus: you ok?
big crop of earthquakes this year.
zeus
fledermaus: fine fine, we already clean up the house and there's no risk of walls going down
I hope to sleep some tonight
Drakeson
how can I do find an replace based on a map of things to change? (some-interactive-command '(("a" "b") ("c" "d"))) ---> interactively replace instances of "a" with "b", and "c" with "d"
or, do you know a version of query-replace that replaces the matching-string with the output of a command run on the matching-string?
fledermaus
Drakeson: read the docs for query-replace-regexp
"In interactive calls, the replacement text can contain `\,'
followed by a Lisp expression..."
Drakeson
fledermaus: cool, thanks
shader
is there a way to have different "frame sets" in emacs? i.e. you have a set of buffers in frames that are associated together, such as garak's windows, and you can swap them out together for a different set of frames such as cedet, or a single buffer
fledermaus
I usually just run a separet instance for things that are completely separate
separate
shader
hmm
fledermaus
so erc lives in one pane of my desktop, and I'm one key-combo away from my coding pane and one away from my webbrowsing one, etc.
with a 3x3 arrangement of panes.
shader
by pane, are you referring to X virtual desktops?
or emacs windows on the same desktop?
fledermaus
X virtual desktop
shader
ok
how are you switching between them?
fledermaus
I have super-<arrow> bound to move one pane in the given direction
shader
ok
lisppaste
laurus pasted "untitled" at http://paste.lisp.org/display/95733
laurus
Can anyone figure out why org-export-region-as-html isn't working in that code?
fledermaus
isn't working in what way?
laurus
Wrong type argument: stringp, nil
fledermaus
from where, the format?
laurus
No before that.
Literally the running of the org-export-region-as-html
Is returning that error.
fledermaus
what do the docs of org-export-region-as-html say?
laurus
Well the docstring starts with: (org-export-region-as-html BEG END &optional BODY-ONLY BUFFER)
fledermaus
and what is the value of `description'
laurus
"\nasdf\n"
fledermaus
wait, you're passing 'string as BUFFER?
laurus
I'm not sure
fledermaus
is that right?
looks like it to me
laurus
What does writing :body-only 'string do in that function signature?
I thought it meant that the parameter BODY-ONLY takes the value 'string
fledermaus
nnno
you've passed the self quoting symbol :body-only as the BODY-ONLY arg
laurus
What's a self quoting symbol? :P
fledermaus
and 'string as the buffer arg
laurus
And what exactly is 'string anyway?
fledermaus
,(eq :string ':string)
laurus
Sorry for all these stupid questions by the way
fsbot
Nooo! Symbol's value as variable is void: fs-:string
fledermaus
bah
basically you don't have to quote it to get the symbol
laurus
Okay
fledermaus
and the quoted value is the same thing as itself.
laurus
So 'string has been passed as buffer
