ok... my problem with gdb earlier was caused by using emacs-cvs, which has gdb-mi, which is still in development... after using emacs from cvs for several years (because of emacsclient -t) I've switched to the latest stable now, which seems to do everything I need.

What is wrong in pressing C-M-/ to indent html and getting the warning http://paste.pocoo.org/show/162067/ ?
fledermaus
C-M-/ isn't the indent keystroke?
soopos
fledermaus: It should be according to docs.
fledermaus
I find tha thard to believe.
,dk C-M-/

Is there something for emacs buffers that is analogous to VNC for X11?
bob2
what would that entail?
jlf`
very diplomatically posed
aidalgol
Alice runs a server within Emacs. Bob connects to that server in Alice's Emacs session.
Both users now see the other's changes actions in the buffer.
bob2
emacsclient in emacs23
or just use screen -x
or the etherpad-alike thing someone wrote for emacs
aidalgol
Yes, screen won't work here, as Alice and Bob are each on separate machines.
bob2: etherpad?
bob2: Do you know what that's called?
bob2
no, screen will work here
aidalgol
How?
I thought all users had to be on the same system to share screen sessions?
rgr
woohoo all keys working in screen with emacsclient -nw now. It was me not understanding TERM properly. Fekking A!
jwhitley
emacs bzr trunk http access appears to be down: (403 Forbidden) when branching http://bzr.savannah.gnu.org/r/emacs/trunk
bob2
ssh host
screen -x
aidalgol
bob2: Right, so someone has to log into the other's box, correct?
technoma`
I love how the majority of the posts on emacs-devel are discussing problems with bzr.
jlf`
rudybot: quote
rudybot
jlf`: Let's make a botnet of ubuntu machines.
aidalgol
Anyway, thanks, bob2. I tried searching for "collaborative", and that got me better results. :)
legumbre
(Action) presents "The determined copy/paste debugger Award" to rgr :)
fledermaus
technomancy: that's what you get for picking your dvcs for political raisins.

technomancy
so when I plug in an external keyboard, it's got the repeat rate set far lower than reasonable. how do you fix that?
I mean, fix it so every time you plug it in it's right rather than having to fix it manually over and over again.
jlf`
political raisins???
fsbot
I'm telling you, you don't want to know.
fledermaus
jlf`: it was picked it was because it was a GNU project rather than on technical merit, AIUI.
docgnome
allow me to not be the first or last to say, that's really stupid.
jlf`
wow.. browsing the inventory of a local guitar shop and they have an old martin on offer for US$165K
docgnome
yowzah
jlf`
it must play itself and come with groupies for that kind of money
docgnome
jlf`: gonna get it? :-p
my_haz
what command should i run to find the documenation on how to make the agenda view, show a fortnight by default, instead of a week?
jlf`
i'm a little short
docgnome
pft. take out a loan! :-p
jlf`
http://www.om28.com/smartused/dlx.html
my_haz
goite customize search for regex
"agenda"
docgnome
jlf`: woah...
fledermaus
165 kUSD for a guitar?
jlf`
yep
rgr_
how many strings? ;)
docgnome
165k
duh
it's a USD per string
hrm. what's a "unit of 1/10 point" in regard to font height
fledermaus
it means if you want a 14 pt face you use 140 as the size
docgnome
fledermaus: ah. thanks
sword
decipoint
docgnome
out of curiosity, why is it specified like that?
fledermaus
dunno
bremner
so that when it defaults to 1, it makes me very cross
docgnome
heheh
sword
bremner: get a better screen?
upgrade your eyeballs
fledermaus
tbf a font at 1 pt isn't functionally any more useful than one at 0.1 pt.
bremner
ok. point to fledermaus. The rest of you back to snappy-comeback school
jlf`
truly he is a font of knowledge
sword
jlf` wins
jlf`
(Action) takes a victory lap
fledermaus
hrrr. damn you qemu.
(Action) is trying to build emacs 23 for the n900
qemu segfaults.
docgnome
heh
fledermaus
hmm...
docgnome
what proc does the n900 run?
fledermaus
emm... arm 7
250 bogomips
docgnome
ah.
fledermaus
I guess I can nfs mount my scratchbox directories onto the n900 and build it.
docgnome
how do you even use emacs on that thing
fledermaus
easily enough.
docgnome
sounds like it would be a pain in the butt with out a real keyboard
fledermaus
it's got a keyboard.
docgnome
yeah, a tiny one
heoa
which version control system emacs-devs use? git?
fledermaus
docgnome: the keybard is pretty easy to use.
docgnome
heoa: bzr -_-
technomancy
(Action) hides his face in shame
docgnome
fledermaus: meh. i'm kind of a keyboard snob. I hate everything but my kinesis
does the keyboard even have control and meta? what about super and hyper!? how could you use emacs with out super and hyper?! :-p
fledermaus
it has control
and there's a widget I'm coing to steal from the xterm that has C- ESC TAB and a couple of others as touchscreen widgets across the bottom of the app
going
which I will make configurable so you can put whatever modifiers/etc you want there.
Sketch
docgnome: you want to see pain, try using emacs from an iphone ;)
fledermaus
surely emacs is forbidden from the iphone.
since the terms forbid interpreters
docgnome
Sketch: s/emacs from an//
Sketch: fixed that for you
(Action) ducks
fledermaus: you could run it if you jail broke it
fledermaus
don't need to jailbreak the n900 :)
Sketch
i use emacs from the iphone all the time...via ssh
fledermaus
well, sure, I can ssh to other things and use it
but I want a native app.
didi
Native app? No, we are the cloud babe!
DuClare
Sigh
Shows how crippled ERC is
dmhouse
DuClare: what does?
DuClare
All hell breaks loose when freenode disconnects me
ERC would no longer know which channels I'm joined to
And it would not let me join channels
fledermaus
works fine for me
DuClare
And suddenly I'm seeing all the joins in the server buffer
Similar things happened when I connected to another network via IP. It wouldn't react to /joins -_-;
rgr
works fine for me too
e1f
the tablet shall be your salvation!
i meant emacs
johnw
Luke!!!
DarthVader

Han
They don't travel into the US
twb
Han: zing!
e1f
twb: haven't you seen killbill?
twb
e1f: what of it?
e1f
you mentioned some "surfer music" sung by the 5678s
twb
yeah, same sh*t
e1f
they are a japanese band featured in the movie
3 women iirc
how does one pronounce "vosges" in "place des vosges"
all the frenchies are probably askeep
asleep
bremner
e1f: the first s is silent
docgnome
anyone use TwIt?
bremner
at least to my anglo ears
e1f
emphasis on which syllable
bremner
no emphasis
fledermaus
e1f: wikipedia page has a link to a place des vosges audio tour mp3
bremner
oh, the second s is pretty much silent too
e1f
so sounds like "vogue"?
bremner
more like voje
meh, I'm no good at phonetic writing
fledermaus
vou-jay
bremner
really?
fledermaus
I'm guessing :)
je ne parlais pas francais.
bremner
you know the french je?
put vo in front, and make it one syllable
fledermaus
vouzh
or something
anyway, zzz
e1f
vo as in vow or voice
bremner
rhymes with row
vo as in vogon
e1f
ah vogue then
twb
The French don't pronounce half the syllables of any given word at all.
As if it's trendy to mumble.
e1f
unlike the germans
twb
e1f: I was actually thinking of the Spanish.
offby1`
twb: that's a good thing, since French sentences seem to be about 50% longer, on average, than English. If they elide most of that, they might break even.
twb
offby1: that's just an aversion to loanwords
offby1
Or a pile of laws against them
Silly foreigners!
twb
How do you tell grep -r to just fu*k right off and IGNORE fifos and /var/stupid/chroot/proc/kmem and similar?
offby1
hmm
find . -type f | xargs grep :-)
least, that's how I'd do it.
grep -r is for wusses :)
mfisher
--devices=skip
offby1
mfisher: but ... but ...
my whole ego was bound up in the presumption that "grep" alone couldn't do it!
(Action) finds a high bridge, and gets ready to jump
consolers
-r fails with zgrep etc
ack is another perl disappointment which cant handle zipfiles etc
(Action) considering switching to perl for some scripts he's writing
offby1
No! Don't do it, buddy!
You have your whole life etc.
