if it's in the same file couldn't you hack something together to search for "def "+(thing-at-point 'word) or whatever the pythony equivalent is?
shabble
I think that's what imenu is supposed to do?
kencausey
I'm beginning to get the impression that any elisp specified on the emacsclient command line is not run in the same interpreter as the emacs server. Doees that sound right?
johnw
that's not right
fledermaus
(Action) yawns
johnw
long day field mouse?
kencausey
johnw: Was that response for me?
johnw
kencausey: ya
ah yes, the bat
i keep reading it as feldermaus
kencausey
OK, let's say I do an insert from the command line, should that affect one of the buffers?

johnw
kencausey: only if you switch to a buffer first
kencausey
s/should/shouldn't/
OK, I assumed it would error or something if there was no current buffer
johnw
i'm not sure your elisp is evaluated in the context of any buffer; maybe there is a temp made for it, I don't know
fledermaus
johnw: been ill, just crawled out of bed to get some soup
johnw
sorry to hear that
jlf
kencausey: emacsclient -e '(message (buffer-name))' -> " *server*"
fledermaus
nothing serious, just a cold, common enough at this time of year
johnw
on this hemisphere :)
kencausey
johnw: OK, with use of set-buffer it did work, thanks for sanity check
jlf
fledermaus: all the excitement surrounding the apple event has been hard on everyone
fledermaus
the what now?
kencausey
so now I'm left to wonder why I can't create a frame
jlf
we had to revive e1f with smelling salts
johnw
i can't use a reflective screen as a book reader
or rather, an emissive screen with a reflective surface
kencausey
jlf: That just shows me I'm not aware of all the buffers, thanks ;)
jlongster
Is there an XML editing mode which will automatically encode entities such as '<' for me? Or at least a function which I can encode entities in a region?
johnw
why does Apple have no interest in a Todo app?
isomer
johnw: beats me
jlf
osx ships with org mode, what more do you want? :)
johnw
lol

isomer
johnw: i've been using shopping list lite, fwiw
johnw
i need a gesture enabled Emacs now
jlf
(Action) makes obscene gestures at emacs regularly with no apparent effect
damd
you know that feeling when you're forced to work with windows vista and only microsoft products and something stops responding?
no? that happens to me daily.
so stop complaining.
Sketch
johnw: there are a bunch of todo list apps on the app stre
hylje
multitouch
johnw
i use Org-mode on my iPhone
jlf
johnw: mobileorg?
r4yner
johnw: is it good? i don't have an iphone but that's really the most interesting app to me
cvandusen
johnw: how's that working?
hober
johnw: have you tried any of the SSH clients? I've been trying to decide which one to go with
johnw
yeah, that
well, for viewing data it's just fine
and I "capture" things with it
Sketch
hober: iSSH
r4yner
johnw: even for humongous org files?
johnw
but for manipulating data I don't even try
for large org files it gets a bit laggy to open
r4yner
johnw: my main todo file is 75k
johnw
hober: I use TouchTerm Pro and I really like it
Sketch
hmm, i did not know about mobileorg...that looks intresting
jlf
johnw: have you done anything to make emacs integrate the changes automagically?
johnw
jlf: yes, I have
one sec
jlf
(Action) leans forward expectantly
Sketch
(al)pine does not display corretly in touchterm
jlf
,mobileorg
fsbot`
From memory, mobileorg is an org-mode viewer for the iPhone: http://mobileorg.ncogni.to/
johnw
automatic importing of new items as TODOs: http://gist.github.com/288232
Sketch
last time i tried it, anyway
jlf
johnw: nice. mind if i put that on emacswiki?
johnw
be my guest
it's a bit specific to my own org file
hober
johnw: is there really much different between TouchTerm and TouchTerm Pro? (Having never used either)
johnw
hober: I'm not sure
i do use it fairly often though
that at Mocha VNC Lite
and
and QKAnywhere
all three for controlling my home machine in various ways
e1f
johnw: todo list is integrated in ical
johnw
i use Appigo's Todo app for grocery lists
Sketch
i use apple's Notes for grocery lists
johnw
is there a bugzilla client for Emacs?
besides w3m?
jlf
,mobileorg is a free (open-source) iPhone and iPod Touch application for storing, searching, viewing and editing your Org-mode files. Its home page is at http://mobileorg.ncogni.to/
fsbot`

Currently: an org-mode viewer for the iPhone: http://mobileorg.ncogni.to/

Added entry to the term "mobileorg"
kencausey
(Action) finally succeeds with make-frame-on-display
It looks like I have to do my own management of the frame though, for exmaple C-x # doesn't work. Is there some reference for the server hooks? I don't seem them listed in my local elisp reference
switch-to-buffer also doesn't seem to do anything
e1f
the screen is 1024x768
that's a surprise
jlf
kenyon: how are you looking for them?
did you try e.g. M-x apropos RET server.*hook
oh he left

fsbot`
jlf shudders as the great and powerful fsbot aims the all-powerful barrel of the gnu... *CLICK*
