then... there are some check boxes. Click those to specify you want to use a value other than the inherited value.
laurus
I did
Oh, click the box
timcharper
you can then specify you're own value
^you're^your
laurus
I typed the font name
But how do I save?
Oh, just like a normal file
bpalmer
Geralt: ' quotes a value (prevents evaluation). (setq testlist (cons (cons g 12) testlist)) does what you want
timcharper
laurus: there should be a button up at top: "Set for current session" "Save for future sessions"
laurus
timcharper, there we go!
Geralt
bpalmer: thanks, but that's a really long line :/
timcharper
laurus: Also, there is a button for each face configuration, "State". Click it, and select "save"
laurus: congrats!

laurus
timcharper, thank you very much :) It works :)
Alright, got to take off, take care all
timcharper
ieure: that is definetely cool, thank you (tags-apropos). But I'm looking for how to choose between matches when using 'find-tag' (M-.)
(I like find-tag because it populates the default with the symbol under my cursor)
and M-, is supposedly supposed to do it, but it doesn't find the next tag found by M-.
for example, I press M-. to find the method "run", then press M-, and I'm taken to "cross_validate"
(because cross_validate is what I searched for using tags-search
)
bpalmer
Geralt: one-liners aren't big in elisp culture; you can use a backtick if you'd like.
(Action) heads out
DraX
bpalmer: why not head in
timcharper
Well.. I suppose I will try icicles mode and see if that does what I want
it seems like emacs-core ought to support this. it's a seemingly trivial thing
neosoothsayer
I have a silly question - I know how to bind a key to some function. How about binding it to a function with args? Like (other-window -1) - what is the syntax to bind this to say, f2?
(global-set-key [f2] '(other-window -1)) is incorrect?
timcharper
does it seem to anyone else that it's a BAD idea to have scripts hosted on a wiki, free for anyone to change ?
offby1
(Action) only just now tries out bookmakrs

timcharper
the main install for icicles is on emacswiki. All it takes is one maliscious user to inject "rm -rf" in one of the scripts, and boom, damage is done

anybody know anything about semantic and senator?
because I get this error like "panel.js was not set up for parsing"
unixSnob
where has mozex been my whole life! what a great plugin. Suddenly i hate textboxes less
ieure
timcharper, I cant confirm locally, but it looks like C-u M-. will jump you to the next match.
unixSnob
now I want a vBulletin mode... so I can put the cursor in the middle of a quote, hit enter, and have the quote split into 2 quotes
laurus
Does anyone here do class modelling using dot in Emacs?
jlf
i've used dot mode but not for class modeling
laurus
Cool

You're welcome laurus :)
chrisdone
is there a minor-mode that lets you create temporary yasnippet snippets?
timcharper
ieure: you are my hero!
that's exactly it
ieure
No problem.
chrisdone
so I could write e.g. "printf(..., $1, $2*$3, $1);", select that region and say "right this is a temporary snippet" -- like a keyboard macro, but a snippet macro, and then run it multiple times
timcharper
ieure: did you get that from the docs ?
ieure
timcharper, Yes, C-h k M-.
timcharper
I looked there
was it the next-p arg that keyed you off ?
ieure
`If second arg NEXT-P is t (interactively, with prefix arg), search for another tag that matches the last tagname or regexp used.'
timcharper
ah, ok. So the missing link in my head was that pressing C-u w/out a number after causes 't' to be passed to the function.
thanks for enlightening me, dude! That's a huge help
ieure
Sure.
timcharper
what's the best "tag list" extension for emacs. want one that continually updates and shows tags for current file.
I'm using ecb right now, but it bugs me. wondering if there's another option people prefer
laurus
Cogre is pretty weird...
abbe, have you used it successfully?

Is dot mode installed by default?
timcharper

ok, well ECB is ok. It bugs me that it looks like things are clickable with the mouse, but they're not. I suppose I can live with that.

Do you have exactly what I want in a plaid poindexter bar bat??

Okay, here's another question: How do I get it so I can copy things from other applications and paste them into Emacs, in GNOME?

jlf

Non-nil means cutting and pasting uses the clipboard.
This is in addition to, but in preference to, the primary selection.
On MS-Windows, this is non-nil by default, since Windows does not
support other types of selections. (The primary selection that is ..[Type ,more]

does anybody else have an issue with ECB mouse support not working ?
am I alone ?
ugh. I'm aone

timcharper: I used ecb a while ago on windows and the mouse worked but not always with the button you'd expect
wgsilkie
I know this is a crazy question: has anyone used Emacs on Mac OS 8.1 (or older)?
Er, I meant anyone *here*. I know it's been done.
timcharper
gbt: right-click gives contextual menu, but left click does nohting. :S
wgsilkie: anyone here used Mac OS 8.1 or older ?
just kidding
gbt
doe you have a middle button? if not try both at the same time
timcharper
gbt: I actually only have one button. On a mac
(left click simulated)
gbt
timcharper: I think (and it was a while ago) that it was the middle button on windows. maybe it can be rebound?
timcharper
kind of makes sense I suppose, since left-click places the cursor. thank you
gbt

MisterN
hi. printing... is there a way to get a printer dialog? (ubuntu 9.10, emacs23) i want to select the printer whenever i print
nopedia
Printing is not very well integrated in Emacs
You may want to look at http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/PrintWithWebBrowser
MisterN
nopedia: that makes me a bit sad
nopedia
Why not glad since it is still easy to print?
DraX
who prints anymore..
MisterN
nopedia: huh? it's easier to use an external program to print the file :P
jlf
,dv printer-name
fsbot
The name of a local printer to which data is sent for printing.
(Note that PostScript files are sent to `ps-printer-name', which see.)
On Unix-like systems, a string value should be a name understood by
lpr's -P option; otherwise the value should be nil. ..[Type ,more]
nopedia
Dear fsbot, that does not work always
MisterN: Yes, it has turned out to be that ...
MisterN
is there any hope that the situation will improve?
nopedia
That depens on how many people work with Emacs development
shabble
does linux have a standard printing interface? I thought things were still layered on top of lpr?
nopedia
There are a lot of things to do that perhaps are a bit more exciting than printing
neosoothsayer
why can I not bind a key to a function taking an argument? Like (global-set-key [f2] '(other-window -1))
shabble
neosoothsayer: try (lambda() (foo -1)) ?
nopedia
(lambda () (interactive) (other-window -1))), but writing a new defun is mostly better
neosoothsayer
Ah, point taken. Let me try that
MisterN
shabble: lpr doesn't usually exist anymore
and if it does, it's an alias to lp, i think
neosoothsayer
shabble: thanks! that worked!
shabble
MisterN: ah, ok. I haven't needed to print from linux in a long time.

chrisdone
okay I wrote a temporary snippet feature for yasnippet. anybody want it?
neosoothsayer
chrisdone: details?
chrisdone
neosoothsayer: http://github.com/chrisdone/yasnippet-mode/commit/b78dfae4742928f14957b1853f5ef210eac6881e
neosoothsayer: I documented what the change does (see the green parts (and ignore my embarrassing accidental letter switch on the first line))
neosoothsayer: whole point being snippet expansion does the clever $1, $2, etc. magic
nopedia
Can yasnippets call other yasnippets?
chrisdone
not that I know of
shabble
you can embed arbitrary sexps in the templates, I think
nopedia
Can you do it from elisp code in the snippet?
shabble
so you could maybe call insert-snippet, but god knows what would happen :)
chrisdone
true, embedding elisp code would let you do that, and I think recursive expansions work
I may give that a try
(though, how complex have your snippets gotta be? haha)
neosoothsayer
chrisdone: thats a neat idea. I find myself doing that quite often
I will give it a try over this weekend
chrisdone
neosoothsayer: cool =)
CBro2007_
how do I open a file in Xemacs?
I see a "Find File" dialog box with a crappy looking interface
Does GNU Emacs look the same?
anyone?
fsbot
Please do not ask if anyone uses, knows, is good with, can help you with or is a guru/expert of <some program>. Instead, ask your real question.
jlf
CBro2007_: bpalmer's not here
CBro2007_
heheh ok
I am going to install GNU emacs as well
and check it out
now
