Evolution

they do crazy stuff.
TommyC

Wamphyri

mirror admins, for public listing, does CentOS require that their header and footer files remain intact (Like Apache Foundation), or can the hosting mirror replace them with their own. Just a style question.
TrevorH
cz20xx: probably better asked in #centos-mirror
Wamphyri
billings, anyways i can't even nlookup the domain name even tho its setup just like my others
cz20xx
TrevorH: wasn't aware of that channel. Thanks!

acidrainfall: svenx was last seen in #centos 5 days, 9 hours, 41 minutes, and 30 seconds ago: <svenx> polite replies in the HELO response
acidrainfall
hahaha
ok
Does anyone know svenx?

TrevorH
no but you could try not cluttering up the channel and use PM instead
acidrainfall
Well then
iluminator105
i was able to install centos 7 after messing uefi and adding 1 mb for biosgrub partition
MuliLPTP
upon a minimal install of centos, should the network services at least be booted up?
TrevorH

TrevorH
bullet point #2 iirc
MuliLPTP
i've already manipulated network-scripts for onboot=yes
TrevorH
literally onboot=yes?
MuliLPTP
wonder if that could be the problem
TrevorH, yes
however...
TrevorH
it is case sensitive and needs to be ONBOOT=yes
MuliLPTP
bootproto=none
TrevorH
and that
BOOTPROTO=none
MuliLPTP
this is what I have in the following...
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=none
hrmg
still 'NO-CARRIER'
i'm wondering if this machine's nics are fried..
0 link lights on either port
acidrainfall
no-carrier would indicate that the link is dead
Wamphyri
MuliLPTP bad cable?
MuliLPTP
nah
my polycom pc port is dead

hello all, is there something with centos 6/7 that i need to configure to allow the framebuffer to be used with mplayer? when testing several flavors of linux on the same hardware, centos gives me an error upon trying to use initialize the video driver (well, mplayer spawns the error)

Anyone have any ideas about a httpd/mod_mono app that has problems starting mod-mono-server when SELinux is enabled, but works just fine with it disabled and then enabled again after httpd/mod-mono-server is running again?
SElinux isn't writing anything to audit.log when that fails
fenrus02
enable logging for 'dontaudit' rules.
pj
put selinux into permissive mode and then try it and check the logs after.

iluminator105
what are the gnome 3 extension that make gnome 3 like gnome 2
pj
iluminator105: gnome classic, I think
iluminator105
pj i have gnome classic but i can't get task bar to left and workflow is not the same
pj
iluminator105: well there's mint, which I think is based on gnome2 in epel.
iluminator105: also there are other light weight desktops which you may find more to your liking, I happen to like xfce
iluminator105: sorry, I said mint, but I meant mate

hello all
how to check what actions exist for a systemctl service
I can't do systemctl graceful httpd
Unknown operation 'graceful'.
aqsd
systemctl restart httpd.service https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/15/html/Deployment_Guide/s3-services-running-restarting.html
Or apachectl I suppose.
But I dunno if that's still valid on systemctl systems.

Hi, I have a network of a few computers and a centos server ( the clients are linux and windows machines) the issue I have is that when there is no internet ssh-ing to the server takes 5-6 seconds to get the password request then 5-6 seconds to get to shell any idea why? should I look at the server? or is it a client thing?
evil_steve
it sounds like DNS lookups
jnhghy
dns lookups on the intranet? who would handle that? the router?
randomuser
jnhghy, it happens via the internet
jnhghy
I have the issue on the intranet when the internet is down... sorry I didn't mentioned this
randomuser
jnhghy, it is because the intranet cannot do dns resolution via the internet
jnhghy
so if I do ssh myuser@192.168.0.80 (my server address) while the internet is ok everything is fine, if I have no internet then doing that ssh myuser@192.168.0.80 gets 5-6 seconds delay
why should it do dns resolutions via internet if I'm accessing a local ip address, can I force intranet ip addresses not to be looked on the internet?
randomuser
there are many ways to define 'inside' and 'outside' networks, so it always tries to check. You can tell it to never try to check, but it can be a security concern if you do ever connect to outside resources
evil_steve
the server will use whatever DNS servers it has set to try to look up the forward and reverse entries for hte connecting IP addreses
randomuser
`man sshd_config` will have the option
jnhghy
thanks a lot guys, I'll do some research about this, thanks for putting me on the track
randomuser
jnhghy, for contrast, my intranet has a dns server that will always resolve forward and reverse entries for machines inside it, even if the internet is down. It's a sane default.
