this is the error I'm getting but the folder is chmod 777 and owned by apache
Bahhumbug
Doesn't sound like anything CentOS ships.
...
That's NEVER the right way to do it. Ever.
What does /sbin/getenforce say?
zikeji
Enforcing
Bahhumbug
99.99999% certainty it's an selinux issue.

Disabled selinux as a test. Same error. *facedesk*
Bahhumbug
Then it's a standard permissions problem.
But 777 on anything in a webroot is idiotic.
I suggest stepping back and looking at this from a bigger viewpoint.
zikeji
The plan is to use 755, 777 was just a last resort
Zathrus
oh, I'm sure it'll just be for testing! That'll _never_ go to production.... <famous last words>

Bahhumbug
You running with mod_suphp or suhosin??
zikeji
Unless it's default, no. But I'll check phpinfo()
Bahhumbug
mod_suphp will not show in phpinfo; no idea about suhosin.
Either of those can cause this type of issue, however, if not properly configured.
zikeji
Neither are referenced in php.ini if that's where they would be
Zathrus
no, they'd be in httpd configuration

I am struggling with setting up jboss as a systemd. it started ok but now tells me the process is failing even though it is up and running fine
I have simple environment vars and just want to startup jboss. Anyone have experience with jboss and systemd?
zikeji
So I disabled selinux, restarted, no dice. Re enabled selinux, restarted, and the error changed. I didn't change permissions or anything. Oh well, thanks for the help.
Okay. Finally got it. cThis fixed it: chcon -Rt httpd_sys_content_t /var/www/
Bahhumbug
Better is to set httpd_unified to false and then assign httpd_sys_rw_content_t to only those directories / files that you need writable. Also man semanage to make sure that your changes (including the one you just made) make it past a relabel.
(This is on C6, right?)
zikeji
C7
Bahhumbug
Ok, there is no unified mode on C7 so that doesn't apply. If that app needs to write back to anything within the docroot it will fail as the context you've choosen will, on C7, only permit read and no write to the objects it covers.
In either case, without adding a default context via semanage for that change the next time it's relabeled for whatever reason you will lose your changes. Something to keep in mind.
zikeji
How would I add a default context?
Nevermind

Is it still required to run openstack Kilo (and/or Liberty) with NetworkManager disabled in CentOS 7?
ish
Anyone know why kernel 3.10.0-229.1.2 boots fine, but 3.10.0-229.14.1 results in a kernel panic: not syncing: vfs, unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)?
Evolution
ish: bad initramfs?
ish
their grub lines are idential save for the /vmlinuz-..... parameter..
ahh, looks like the initrd line is missing for the newer kernel.
Evolution
that'd be why then.
TrevorH
an el6 conversion?
groundnuty
hey, I'm struggeling with centos7 image on amazon ec2
what's the proper way to change its hostname
I'm quite happy with amazon's given FQDM (DNS name)
I just want to change a hostname seen in a command prompt
the things is that hostname keeps changing back after the reboot
Bahhumbug
cloudinit is probably at fault.
And on that note
(Action) goes to take a nap

groundnuty
:)
Bahhumbug: yes, it is.I tried to put a script in etc/cloud/cloud.ini.d/
but somehow it gets ignored
MrPeppah
Anyone use glances for linux and get warnings for CPU iowait being high?
blasson
whats up!
MrPeppah
trying to figure out if I have issues
blasson
Oh, i'm not a psychiatrist.
Bahhumbug
MrPeppah: Where did you get glances from?
MrPeppah
Downloaded with yum, epel
epel-releas
Bahhumbug
For what release? 6 or 7?
MrPeppah
release*
7
Im also watching top
Bahhumbug
Try the version in ghettoforge, it's much newer.

I resized my VPS with DigitalOcean and now getting CPU IOWAIT times
evil_steve
that probably would have been better to mention at the start
blasson
Centos 7 had a kernel update?
MrPeppah
sorry
Bahhumbug
MrPeppah: How long ago did you resize? Is it possible that DO is still doing the actual resize in the background?
blasson: Yes, a few days ago.
MrPeppah
few minutes ago, everything is reflecting the correct resources
well not few minutes ago, 30 minutes ago but it completed
Just installed gf-release, going to update and restart box
Bahhumbug
The backing store is quite likely resizing.
MrPeppah
ok
Yeah everything is just going slow, even logging in
Bahhumbug
If it continues for some time talk to DO; it's not really a CentOS problem.
The most likely explanation remains that the actually resize is happening in the background.

MrPeppah
Im seening rcu_sched and rcous/1 poping up often in top/htop
blasson
Wouldn't that show up in a 'ps aux' whats going on?
or that
MrPeppah
Would seeing sshd: root [priv] in top mean someone is trying to log in?
fenrus02
"trying" ? no.
"already logged in" ? likely. is it you?
MrPeppah
no.., not as root
Bahhumbug
Heh, that might explain the iowait.
fenrus02
sudo /usr/sbin/ss -tnp

fenrus02
which one of those ssh sessions is not you?
MrPeppah
43.229.53.67
fenrus02
do you know that ip address?
if not .. you've been p0wn3d. format / reinstall in your very very near future.
Bahhumbug
You've been pwned.
Go google that ip.
MrPeppah
Oh sweet.
