blasson
is optimum a brand? should I remove the Nvidia driver and get back on xchat?
TrevorH
did you read the bumblebee link yet?
wolfy
blasson: please read the link TrevorH gave you
pycoderf
why does centos 7 hang when wirting a file via nfs?
ports are open and user has permissions
TrevorH
you have a laptop with an intel video card for low power use and an nvidia one for high power graphics, bumblebee lets you use them both
blasson
oh no. I didn't yet. didn't want to leave irc and miss something
I'll BRB if I get disconnected
sdgathman
TrevorH: nvidia probably kicking themselves for not thinking of that...
TrevorH
?
blasson
error: nvidia-x11-drv-340xx conflicts with nvidia-x11-drv-352.41-1.elrepo.x86_64

sdgathman
A video card with 2 video cards to address both high and low power applications.
Sokel
No nvidia should feel ashamed of themselves for not incorporating bumblebee-like mechanisms in their linux driver.
blasson
you could try using --skip-broken
sdgathman
That too.
Sokel
Don't do skipbroken.
blasson
you could try running rpm -VA --no files --nodigest
TrevorH
sdgathman: as far as I know, it was nvidia that invented it
sdgathman
(Action) has never needed high power video - if it plays tux racer, it's golden
wolfy
blasson: what does nvidia-detect come back with ?
blasson
kmod-nvidia-340xx
Optimus hardware detected. an Intel display controller was dtected
either disable Intel display controller in bios or use bumblebee driver
wolfy
and yum install bumblebee tries to install nvidia-x11-drv-352.41-1.elrepo.x86_64 ?
Sokel
really tux racer lol
blasson
yes
wolfy
blasson: seems you met a bug in elrepo's package. let's try to circumvent it
blasson
kk!
wolfy
please do yum install kmod-bbswitch
hmm. I wonder if Virtual-GL is really needed. 'cause it does not exist as package for C7
oh, it does
blasson
says installing. only a 21kb file.. been hanging for a good bit.
wolfy
wait. it probably rebuilds the initramfs
blasson
done. ;)
wolfy
yum install VirtualGL --enablerepo=epel

blasson
done.
wolfy
good. yumdownloader bumblebee --enablerepo=elrepo
blasson
done
wolfy
rpm -Uvh --nodeps ./bumblebee*rpm
blasson: do not make a habbit of using rpm --nodeps, I am recommended it just because it's mandatory now
*reccomending
blasson
okay. and done sir
wolfy
now pray and then follow the rest of the instructions from elrepo's wiki
blasson
;) kk brb
TrevorH
and raise a bug on ELRepo's bug tracker saying that bumblebee has a requirement for kmod-nvidia when you are using kmod-nvidia-340xx
blasson
Well.. im assuming it worked!
going test out a youtube video to see the quality
Oh yes. the quality is SO much better.
Much Much appreciated wolfy and others!
wolfy
blasson: glad to have helped
TrevorH: I will
blasson
Odd as it sounds.. it actually improved the sound quality too? Does that seem possible?
TrevorH
could be an interesting problem to solve. kmod-nvidia-340xx probably already conflicts with kmod-nvidia
blasson
because the sound quality was garbage
If it matters any, my gfx card is Nvidia GeForce G210M Cuda 512MB
pycoderf
anyone here good with samba
i cant seem to see the share in my lab environment
TrevorH
did you open the firewall?
wolfy
and did you follow the selinux instructions that exist in the smb.conf file ?
pycoderf
actually i forgot the path directive. but now it doesnt seem as though anyone can write to it
wolfy: yes
OneM_Industries
Hey, I have a centos box that I am moving from an AMD to an Intel based platform. What will the issues with this transition be?
wolfy
OneM_Industries: what centos release ?
Parabola
evening. i've got a single VM that is slow, and after ~24 hours its 10 minutes off. i've manually specified a tick, i've added "tinker panic 0" to my config
whats even more odd. if i do "ntpq -gq" it says the time isn't off.
ntpd: time slew +0.000000s
but the time is off. i've never had one like this. ive rebooted it. i've got a dozen other VMs running the same version of centOS at this provider and they aren't having this issue
at this point if i can get a command(s) I can throw in cron to just forcibly update the time i'd be okay with that.
right now the only fix is "date --set"
any ideas would be great :) thanks!
wolfy
ntpd should keep the time in sync. and there is ntpdate for one time shots
Parabola
ntpdate is / should be deprecated i believe. ntpd -gq is the "replacement"
having said that, i've used ntpdate -s and it doesnt change the time either.
wolfy
are you sure that ntpd is not syncing with a source which is off ?
Parabola
ntpd is running, but its not making any adjustments to the time
time.nist.gov and time.apple.com then the default centos ntp pools.
yeah i'm certain all of those are not off :)
wolfy
and still, if ntpd & ntpdate refuse to update, I am pretty sure they access a source which is off
Parabola
they don't refuse to update
Bahhumbug
@uname Parabola
centbot
Parabola, please paste the single line of output from the 'uname -a' command run on the server in question to the channel.
Parabola
they say the clock isn't wrong
wolfy
if they say the clock isn't wrong it means the clock is in sync with the source
Parabola
Linux HOSTNAME 2.6.32-573.1.1.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Sat Jul 25 17:05:50 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
wolfy: if that were the case, every other server on this same network, at the same provider would have the wrong time.
but they don't. its a single VM, same gateway, same network
if it were the only system there, or others had this issue i wouldn't be asking, i'd be tracking down a networking issue
wolfy
do me a favor and run strace -f -e send ntpdate
Parabola
deal :) one moment please!
Bahhumbug
Humor me? run "iostat 1" on that box for about 20 seconds or so and see if the "steal" column shows anything other than 0.00.
Parabola
sure thing :) one moment
OneM_Industries
wolfy: Centos 6.7.
wolfy
OneM_Industries: should work directly, if I am not mistaken
OneM_Industries
Ok, sounds good,
Parabola
wolfy: heres the output
https://www.irccloud.com/pastebin/LdOYvp88/
Bahhumbug
OneM_Industries: At best you'll need a new initrd.
OneM_Industries
Will that be complicated? I am not very experienced.
Bahhumbug
Sigh. Why must pastebins require friggin' active content to display _text_?
Parabola
Bahhumbug: steal is 0.00 :(
