Is there channel where I can discuss problems whith chrony?
alexove
Hello all, Where I can ask about SquidGuard?
ckorzhik
I don't sure that it's appropriate channel, but I have folloving in /var/log/messages: http://vpaste.net/TsCVZ .
And that situation is common on that node. There are time corrections on 1-20 seconds, and they are very frequent (1 big correction at 10 seconds per day in last days)
ddrown
ckorzhik: #ntp is a good channel, but your clock is jumping around like crazy
Bahhumbug
chrony != ntpd
ckorzhik
yes
thanks, i will go to #ntp
oh
only mail lists?
ddrown
Bahhumbug: true, but #ntp is for the protocol
not just ntpd
Bahhumbug
ddrown: Interesting. Thank you for clarifying that for me; I made the assumption (yeah, silly me) that it was specific to ntpd.
ddrown
ckorzhik: the output of "chronyc sources ; chronyc sourcestats ; chronyc tracking" would be good too

Nerobro_: the bind package for 6.5 hasn't been updated at all this year (point release is deprecated). best to go with 6.6 completely
`Nerobro_
feldspar: I guess that's the plan then. :-)
ckorzhik
ddrown, thanks. I will get it in #ntp
Bahhumbug
Or yum install centos-release-cr and bump it to what will eventually be 6.7. "eventually" in this case meaning in the next few days until 6.7 is GA.
ckorzhik
as I can see, you also online at those channel
ddrown
ckorzhik: yup
scooby2
Is there a way to limit sftp users to 2 connections per user? limits.conf only applies to shell users it appears.
BillyCrook
Are there updated bind packages for el6 in the pipeline?
scooby2
they are in the CR repo
BillyCrook
scooby2: ahh, thanks!
scooby2
BillyCrook: 6.7 is in progress
todd_dsm
hey guys, I have a user that wants to install a GUI on RHEL6; what's the best way to achieve this?
I've done a yum grouplist | egrep -i 'desktop|system' and it outputs a lotta stuff.
not sure what the difference is between "Desktop" and "General Purpose Desktop" for example.
BillyCrook
todd_dsn: can you diff the list of packages?
todd_dsm
I've looked at both, still don't have any idea what I'm looking at; I don't usually bother myself with a GUI.
markinfo
i have installed CentOS6 on one disk and then copied to another disk. Changed /etc/fstab and grub.cfg But System does not want to start - some services upon the start are "failed" Like "Starting auditd, System mesage bus, HAL daemon, certmonger" Should be changed more things after copying the system to the new location?
Dragotha
markinfo: did you update the selinux labels?
markinfo
is it possible to copy whole system from one disk to another? And start it from new location? I do taht over "rsync -avhHPS --exclude={dev,sys,proc,mnt,tmp,media,run} /origin /destination"
Dragotha
markinfo: boot a rescue cd, touch .autorelabel in the root directory on the new root filesystem, and try booting again
wolfy
markinfo: rsync -x is what you were looking for
rsync -avXH /mnt/root.old/* /mnt/root.new/ , for each partition or LV
avxXH
markinfo
wolfy, Are you sure? in "rsync -avhHPS" there is missing only option -X ? (preserve extended attributes)
Dragotha, - it was somehow relabeled but system still does not start.

wolfy
x and X
x == stay on one fs, no need to exclude proc, selinux, sys
markinfo
wolfy, well but "--exclude={dev,sys,proc,mnt,tmp,media,run}" is OK?
wolfy
(and so on )
yes, it is
Dragotha
you probably want -A and -r in there, too. but if you relabelled the existing copy, I can't think offhand why it would be having problems
you probably want to boot single user and try starting some of those services manually, try and find out what's broken
wolfy
X transfers the extended attributes, i..e selinux labels
markinfo
well - i tried it. But why is with "rsync -avhHPSxX" noit synced properly directory /var/run ? Only some files from there are synced
could be Problem because I am rsyncing system from msdos partition to GPT Partion?
Evolution
files are files. more likely some of the files you're copying are links or otherwise *special* files.
fishcooker
how to negate routing in case on vpn i want all connection to certain network will use this routing rule, other will use default route/gateway..is it possible?
markinfo
ech with "rsync --exclude={dev,sys,proc,mnt,tmp,media,run}" there is not synced /var/run ... maybe because "run" is in the path
sartan
i always feel so dirty when i install missing perl module from cpan
markinfo
Evolution, wolfy - yes that was problem - with --exclude={dev,sys,proc,mnt,tmp,media,run} was not synced /var/run and it was leading to non working system.
wolfy
sartan: cpanspec creates modules in 2-3 min at most
*creates rpms for modules
sartan
luckily, it's a one-off. i'll remember that for next time - for real.
the sins have been committed
markinfo
interesting - in Centos7 is /var/run only link to /run, but in CentOS6 is /var/run directory full of some files
the same in Debian Jessie - only link to /run
That's why I have never encountered that problem with missing /var/run until now.

status_of_proc: command not found < does anyone know which package/file offers this command and/or function? a quick search suggests this is part of /lib/lsb/init-functions, so I installed redhat-lsb-core, but there is no status_of_proc
wolfy
shellie_: I am afraid you will not find that. IIIRC it's more a debian/ubuntu thingie
but I might be wrong though
shellie_
wolfy: thanks, resonates with my own investigation :(
according to another post, it appears fedora has it too
wolfy
might have been included in a newer version . you might want to check centos 7
shellie_
the component I'm building appears to have strong ties with CentOS 6.6 :)
I will see if I can backport it easily
wolfy
which reminds me that I need to build usb_modeswitch
shellie_
wolfy: what's usb_modeswitch?
wolfy
@lmgtfy usb_modeswitch
centbot
wolfy: (lmgtfy <an alias, 2 arguments>) -- Alias for "echo $1: [concat http://lmgtfy.com/?q= [Web urlquote $2 ] ]".
wolfy
@lmgtfy shellie_ usb_modeswitch
centbot
shellie_: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=usb_modeswitch

TrevorH
is the el7 supplied one not good enough? of the el6 modem-modeswitch?
wolfy
TrevorH: el6
TrevorH
isn;t modem-modeswitch the same thing by another name?
wolfy
and I had no idea a modem-modeswitch exists
TrevorH
wolfy: /lib/udev/modem-modeswitch#
-# :(
wolfy
I've always known and met it as usb_modeswitch
TrevorH
hmm, not the same at all, usb_modeswitch on el7 is a script
wolfy
whatever it is, /lib/udev/modem-modeswitch does not work with my huawei device
TrevorH
Usage: modem-modeswitch [-hdq] [-l <file>] -v <vendor-id> -p <product-id> -t <type>
wolfy
I'll test again. however ls /tmp/*usb*rpm=> /tmp/usb_modeswitch-2.2.1-2.el6.wolfy.x86_64.rpm /tmp/usb_modeswitch-data-20150115-2.el6.wolfy.noarch.rpm
fedorafan
hey my account is not sudoer and I would like to use it as I know it with sudo commands how to do that the best way
TrevorH
on CentOS 7 just add your id to the wheel group
fedorafan
TrevorH could you tell me how to do that
TrevorH
read man usermod, make sure you use the -a switch to append the new group to the existing ones
fedorafan
oki I will take a look
billings
I guess sudoedit might be a bit too complex
fedorafan
it works now
now my openssh-server ist no running, I got a very strange failure sudo service ssh status, Redirecting to /bin/systemctl status ssh.service and ssh.service Loaded: not found (Reason: No such file or directory) I startet it with sudo service ssh start and I also installed openssh-server and openssh
Bahhumbug
The service name is sshd, not ssh.
fedorafan
ahhh thanks yeah I also used sshd I mean, was to fast
service start sshd and by statuscheck ssh well I check
nice it works
