Psi-Jack
We don't know what each of those contain. Only you do. :)
aftab
do i have to do this for each drive? dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sda
i want to empty all of them
Psi-Jack
Then you will need a livecd boot and this is not a CentOS issue.
Best to do kj'
's suggestion.
aftab
Ok thank you so much.
magnus^p
short of glusterfs, is there anything else that would let me combine disk space from multiple machines and mount that?
B_rake
Are these disks of different sizes?
mhddfs might be able to do it
Never used it before, so I'm unfamiliar with how reliable it is
magnus^p
B_rake, yeah.. more or less I need striping and some concept of replicas
oh, mhddfs seems to be single machine?
scooby2
theres also Ceph but I dont know if its any better than gluster
iulhk
hello , can anybody guide, commandline converter for m4a to wav audio file ? sox not working for me ?

z1haze
would anyone mind helping me switch the the stock kernel on my centos installation?
occupant
z1haze: look into the elrepo kernels. packages specifically meant to replace the centos kernel.
z1haze
i dont even know what that means :\
occupant
there are a few organizations out there that create alternatives for centos packages, usually because you want a later version than the conservative choices that centos makes.
elrepo is one of 'em and they make kernel packages. go a-googling and you should be able to find info
Zathrus
except that centos doesn't make choices...
TrevorH
z1haze: switch it for what and why?
z1haze
im trying to get docker running, and having a lot of issues
my readings led me to believe the kernel my be the issue, someabout about auf support or something like that
occupant
I ended up using the elrepo kernel on some of my servers after a bug was introduced into the kernel in 6.3 and I never could get anyone to reproduce it.
z1haze
im just trying to run discourse, but having to jump through all of these hoops before hand, and I dont really know what im doing :\
need a freaking degree to instal forums these days
would you be able to help me with switching the the stock kernel?
how do i siwtch to a standard kernel !!
does running yum install kernel switch the kernel? im really trying to get this working, if anyone will please help me out
pj
z1haze: I don't htink you can use the stock kernel in a docker container, but I might be wrong.
z1haze
i believe thats true.... im trying to change it but i dont really know how..
i did yum install kernel
Bahhumbug
TrevorH: You around? Any op?
If so please +b $a:ZenGeist$##fix_your_channel
z1haze
why will no one help me with this
TrevorH
because almost no-one here uses docker and the one person who does isn't here
Zathrus
and you haven't explained any actual issues
TrevorH
you've decided that you need to change the kernel yet have provided no explanation of what is _really_ wrong
Bahhumbug
TrevorH: Thank you.
He'd been bouncing for 2.5 hours.
Evolution
z1haze: why are you trying to use the kernel in a docker container?
that's... not really how that works.
unless you're doing something AMAZINGLY edgecase
z1haze
what?
no.
docker does not work on this kernel
period
Evolution
what kernel?

z1haze
"Before you can install Docker on a OVH VPS Cloud, you need to modify the VPS kernel. We need to install a compatible kernel as the kernel automatically provided by OVH doesn't allow Docker to install or work properly. "
Evolution
ohgod.
z1haze
its ridiculous
0 support, and im not a linux, sysadmin genius
Evolution
welcome to how vps's work.
we dislike them here too.
z1haze
all i want to do is install some forums
Evolution
you're not going to be able to do that with docker on your vps.
you're better off using something like a digital ocean droplet if you want to use docker.
do you need docker, or you just want the forums?
z1haze
just the forums
but you have to have it
its a pre req
and dont are yo usaying it wont work?
it says right there just change the kernel
i just dont know how
TrevorH
@uname z1haze
centbot
z1haze, please paste the single line of output from the 'uname -a' command run on the server in question to the channel.
Evolution
TrevorH: it's a vps from ovh. there's no point in that.
z1haze
Linux vps44224.vps.ovh.ca 3.10.0-229.11.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Aug 6 01:06:18 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
i just need help switching to the stock kernel
TrevorH
hmm, well not according to that
I'd say that was the stock kernel
Evolution
oh, that is indeed.
z1haze: seems you've already done the hard bits.
z1haze
i cant get it to load the right one when it starts up
in all honestly idk wtf im doing
reading a mashup of tutorials that usually dead end
sputnik0_m
z1haze, well keep at it. eventually you'll nail this
Evolution
z1haze: so, it looks like you're already there if you have that kernel installed.
and running (given uname -a's output)
now it should simply be a matter of 'yum install docker && service docker start'
then just a 'docker pull whatever'
Bahhumbug
Evolution: Speaking as a DO customer I would not recommend them at this point; kernel updates are at their whim and end-users have little control over things.
Evolution
I'm a DO customer as well. the kernel update thing is really the only complaint I have.
I've been considering writing a yum plugin for it
but I have enough actual work things to do first.
Bahhumbug

cannot enable internal mic on dell n5050 laptop does not record any ideas
tharkun
Thermi: Let me clarify, I only get the boot screen and thats it.
Thermi
tharkun: boot screen? GRUB?
tharkun
The machine freezes without any othet sign of life
Thermi
What is the boot screen for you?
tharkun
Where you select the Kernel you might want to use.
Thermi
That's grub then.-
Okay, did you try rebuilding the initcpio with dracut?
https://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/CreateNewInitrd
Also, try pinpointing what kernels are broken.
tharkun
Thermi: No, The last 3 kernel updates failed so I assumed it was some incompatibility of the kernel with the hw
Thermi
How did the updates fail?
LordShadowWing
