marceloamorim
guys, I'm stuck with this, I don't know how to do, I usually use the "echo "test" |md5sum| cut c1-10" to get my md5. But I'm using an application use only md5 rfc1321, so I can't generate properly. Could you show me the direction to fix this??
Sling
marceloamorim: always do echo -n btw, not sure if that helps here
otherwise you're also hashing the newline
marceloamorim
nice, that helps
so easy, ty so much Sling
Sling
hth
pj
better to use printf than echo -n
Sling
in bash? :)
pj
yes
printf works in just about every shell on every system.
Sling
always used echo for md5summing, what would printf do extra?
pj
echo is inconsistent, though.
so echo -n might not do what you think if the shell changes to something other than bash.

kaos01
shutdown on box seems slowish due to this message : a stop job is running for system logging service
any ideas as to what that relates to ?
E71
hi guys. which version of centos 6.x removed the custom partition layout options from the text based installer?
TrevorH
E71: all of them, it went away from el5 to el6
Zathrus
so... 6.0
TrevorH
use vnc instead if you're short of resources and/or don't want to attach a keyboard/monitor to the machine
E71
ok. thx.
Zathrus
or use kickstart
oaklndr1
Anyone in here an RHCSA7?
TrevorH
wouldn't be on topic if there were, this is #centos - perhaps you wanted #rhel ?
nikob
oaklndr1, rhce7
oaklndr1
nikob you think you can help with a KVM issue. I'm having an issue creating a bi directional bridge.
nikob
a network bridge?
iirc the bridging done in rhcsa is a team'd bridge
oaklndr1
I have been trying to follow this lab and not getting the desired results.
https://books.google.com/books?id=-afmBwAAQBAJ&pg=PA178&lpg=PA178&dq=setup+bi-directional+communication+between+host+and+virtual+machine+RHEL&source=bl&ots=Je6pKfxMpD&sig=lrrA5EuNsk9xHIalHYnM6E4gl70&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CB4Q6AEwAGoVChMIkrid9IeixwIVxpqICh3F6AGB#v=onepage&q=setup%20bi-directional%20communication%20between%20host%20and%20virtual%20machine%20RHEL&f=false
TrevorH
what is wrong?
oaklndr1
I followed those directions and get the message "br0 can't get info No such device" when running "brctl show br0"
Khaytsus
u mad br0
Sorry :)
oaklndr1
LOL
nikob
what does it say when you just "brctl show"
oaklndr1
bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces
TrevorH
oaklndr1: this is all just guesswork: pastebin the contents of /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-br0 and the relevant interface files

oaklndr1
Like there are no bridges
TrevorH
yep, that's exactly what it means
oaklndr1
ifcfg-br0 http://pastebin.centos.org/31956/
TrevorH
oh, those instructions forget to tell you to restart the network after creating the files and using brctl
brctl won't read the ifcfg files
oaklndr1
So they are out of order?
TrevorH
ifcfg files don't activate themselves ;)
oaklndr1
I thought so
TrevorH
and yes, steps 3 and 4 are out of order
oaklndr1
http://pastebin.centos.org/31961/
So i did try that before and came into another issue. It seems to choke on the new em1 ifcfg file.
TrevorH
what's the error?
nikob
is em1 really the name of the interface?
device*
TrevorH
good Q
you're taking your existing interface and amending that not look at the bridge
s/not/to/
(Action) looks at his fingers and wonders when they started typing for themselves
nikob
TrevorH, automation is king
oaklndr1
I beginning to think this lab was flawed to begin with.
TrevorH
perhaps they're testing you
oaklndr1
perhaps...
nikob
what do you get when you "ip link"
just be careful not to pastebin your public ip
oaklndr1
http://pastebin.centos.org/31966/
I get a little further with brctl but no interface.
TrevorH
so you're not using em1 but eno16777736
you should be adding BRIDGE= to ifcfg-eno16777736
oaklndr1
eno16777736 is the physical nic
This lab suggests to create a fake nic for some reason.
TrevorH
where does it say that? The paragraph before the example ifcfg files clearly says to use the physical interface
nikob
ok well you can create a "dummy" interface but I believe that would be out of scope for the lab
oaklndr1
(Action) feeling dumb
nikob
just do what TrevorH said. use the physical interface
TrevorH
are you working in a VM here?
oaklndr1
I was working on a physical box earlier but now it is a VM.
TrevorH
I guessed because of the interface name
be aware that the CentOS kernels may not support nested virtualisation
oaklndr1
might be better off getting the RHEL7 iso
TrevorH
I don't think that would make any difference
I have no info on the el7 kernels but nested virt was not enabled in the el6 kernels
oaklndr1
Thanks all for the help!
TrevorH
oaklndr1: right, I checked and it's that the el6 kernel is too early to have a nested= parameter to enable but el7 has it
oaklndr1
one other issue...
I'm trying to do an ftp installation to a VM from a vsftpd server hosted on physical machine. The installation will start but when it start during the package installation. I was thinking this might an an selinux issue. Any thoughts?
TrevorH
-EPARSE
kvm_intel on el7 accepts nested=1
nikob
nice
vms within vms, who's to know what's real anymore
oaklndr1
Correction...The installation will start but will stall during the package installation.
TrevorH
I suspect that if it was selinux then it would just not work until you fixed it
stalling sounds like network issues, check your alternate consoles for the logs and errors
mdittmeier
@oaklndr1 did you run restorecon -Rv /var/ftp/pub to reset SELinux contect on file?
context*
oaklndr1
not yet but will try
mdittmeier
some files may be messed up if you copied them to the folder from another part of the hard drive, which can cause the issue with ftp permissions
TrevorH
selinux errors would be in your audit log
mdittmeier
ls -laZ will tell you the SELinux context
nikob
if you copied them they'll be fine. if you moved them they could need contexts restored
mdittmeier
setroubleshoot* is your friend
yes, you are corect. mv vs cp
TrevorH
I'd doubt selinux given the symptoms
mdittmeier
you can always turn off SELinux and retry with setenforce 0. if it works..
