hello everyone!!! :-))))
everything's okay around here? :-)))
anyway anyone has a little suggest to improve a bit graphically into xstartup when configuring for vnc remote connection starting from the example at this page http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server ? Because when I connect and I open those xterms I can't see headers of windows so I can't even close the xterm or the java application I open with java -jar MyFile.jar...

Does anyone know if it's a known bug, or how to fix PHP 5.1.6 (and 5.3.3 from epel) on CentOS 5.X. When executing /usr/bin/php -a, no php prompt is given to the end user on my fresh install.
sartan
do you need to install php-cli ?
Bahhumbug
dfinn: xand: Extremely late reply, sorry. With regards to httpd restarting... you can touch /etc/sysconfig/httpd--disable-posttrans and it will not restart at the end up an update run.
(s/--/-/)
dfinn
ah, good to know, thanks
satdav
is 2.4.3 the latest version of python on centos
MerlinTHP
On centos 5 it is, yes.
Bahhumbug
IUS has 2.7 for C5.

Additional packages are often in 3rd party repos. Information on additional CentOS repos is available at http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories Pay attention to the reference on yum-priorities.

Bahhumbug
It's a side-by-side install so it will not touch the system python, thus not breaking things horribly.
VooDooNOFX
sartan: I have it installed. php53-cli-5.3.3-26.el5_11 and php53-common-5.3.3-26.el5_11 from epel.
Lurzino
is there a way to make appearing headers on windows opened in VNC remote connection which was initialized with X11?

Has anyone been encountering python-libs upgrade issues (centos 6.4) similar to this: file /usr/lib64/python2.6/lib2to3/fixes/fix_xreadlines.pyo from install of python-libs-2.6.6-64.el6.x86_64 conflicts with file from package python-2.6.6-36.el6.x86_64
Just started happening in the last week or so
Bahhumbug
Uh... 6.4?
What does rpm -q centos-release return?
forrest
centos-release-6-4.el6.centos.10.x86_64
pj
forrest: what command gives you that error?
forrest
pj: Just a simple sudo yum update python-libs
pj
right, you need to update everything
just do a "yum update"
newer packages are not backwards compatible with older packages.
Bahhumbug
You're over 2 _years_ out of date on that box.
forrest
Bahhumbug: I know, you don't have to tell me man
Bahhumbug
Heh
forrest
Bahhumbug: If I could upgrade them I would, just trying to keep the dev environment as close to production as I can ;)
pj: I'll give that a shot, this only started happening in the last few days so I figured it was locked on the libs, thanks for the help.
pj
forrest: cherry picking updates is not supported, the fact that it "works" most of the time (for some definition of "works") is sheer coincidence.
forrest
pj: I don't disagree with you, like I said, it's not by choice this release is running.
pj
it's by somebody's (rather poor) choice.
forrest
Agreed
Bahhumbug
Are they aware that there are multiple remote root holes and info leaks on that platform? I pray your production environment is air-gapped from the internet.
forrest
It is, and yeah they are are aware
Bahhumbug
(Action) nods
Could be worse, then.

forrest
A good chunk of them are updated, just not all of them for this particular product
Thanks again guys, have a good one, should have thought of that as being the obvious solution.
Motoko
I know a public server that is way more than 2 years out of date.

Any advice on stopping my centos 7 laptop from locking up when i close the lid?
Bahhumbug
Don't close the lid?
TrevorH
update your bios

Any ideas why gnuscreen in CentOS7 would autoname it's window titles? CentOS6 does not do this.
davidmichaelkarr
paluche: I believe you can set this in gnome tweak tool.
paluche
davidmichaelkarr: I'm using MATE.
davidmichaelkarr
paluche: No idea then.
curiousgeorgej
Hi all, I am attempting to upgrade my kernel to kernel-2.6.32-504.23.4. It's not the latest version. Previously it was in the "updates" repo, but now I see it's moved to the CentOS 6.6 Vault repo. Is there any logic on why it was removed from "updates" and moved to the Vault repo?
paluche
davidmichaelkarr: thanks anyway.

Current releases are 5.11, 6.7, and 7.1 (1503). You can determine your current release by running 'rpm -q centos-release'. Please understand that this channel is only able to support what is current.
Zathrus
curiousgeorgej: that's why
TrevorH
curiousgeorgej: CentOS 6.7 was released
curiousgeorgej
@Zathrus @TrevorH: Aha! Thank you!

Someone is experiencing problems in updating the pecl-php-imagick too? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1248069
sputnik0_m
xdexter, pecl-imagick always gives me trouble when upgrading on linux as well as freebsd
what problems are you seeing?
xdexter
sputnik0_m, after the updating to 6.7 hundreds have exactly the same problem: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1248069
Evolution
xdexter: it's not really a centos issue as much as an epel issue.
have you asked in #epel as well?
the epel folks are the ones who need to rebuild the package to meet 6.7 requirements.
xdexter
understand ...
I'll ask her, thank you
fenrus02
"hundreds" but only 3 on that ticket?
Bahhumbug
But it's a _really_ large value of '3'.
fenrus02
clearly
granted, it would be HIGHLY annoying if i were still on c6
almost enough to rebuild the package in koji.
paluche
So, I have "HandleLidSwitch=ignore" in my /etc/systemd/logind.conf, and my laptop still locks up when I close the lid, forcing me to perform a hard shutdown.
I just want to close this damn laptop while it's running. What could be the problem?
smooth_penguin
hey, anyone around
leandrosansilva
Hello to all. I am using centos 7 with no gui (text-mode only, no X11) and during the boot process, the screen resolution changes, not respecting the original one that grub sets. How do I change this behaviour?
Sokel
leandrosansilva: Did you set the resolution through /etc/default/grub?
leandrosansilva
no, I set it changing manually on grub menu vga=<code>
Sokel
Don't use vga. Use video.
leandrosansilva
ok, thx, i'll try that. But do you think it will solve the change that happens during boot? Is it triggered by any systemd service or something like that?
Sokel
Modify /etc/default/grub at GRUB_CMD_LINE, video=1024x768 for example. grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
And it should stick.
leandrosansilva
Sokel: unfortunately I cannot use grub2-mkconfig here. It's not a standard centos setup. It's based on rpm-ostree, so I need to find some solution which depends only on configuration files and things that can be automated
I'll try to fix it on other ways. but thx for the help
deepy
How do I enable IPv6? I'm on CentOS 7 and unticket IPv6
Zerberus
how did you disable IPv6?
deepy
It was during the install
Zerberus
what exactly did you during install?
deepy
I unticked ipv6

I can't see any content in the first one and the second one is how you disable IPv6, I would like to enable it
And my net.ipv6.conf is looking good already
Zerberus
deepy: it should give you a hint how ipv6 may be disabled
uranellus
hello, how can I review the kernel config?
Zerberus
see config... file under /boot/
uranellus
Zerberus: thanks :)

I'm using CentOS 6. I've added these lines to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 http://pastebin.com/ZwJZJbkz. Now /etc/resolv.conf contain that two nameservers. But I want to add another one (third nameserver). How could I do that?
There is no NetworkManager in my CentOS system.
longword
Could go a bit more oldschool
vecciora
I want to edit resolv.conf and make it permanent. I'm so confused. I've tried PEERDNS=no in ifcfg-eth0 and edited resolv.conf, but after service network restart the resolv.conf went back (my settings is gone).
