Zerberus
carpii: /etc/sysconfig/iptables holds the rulesets
carpii
yep, thats populated
'Ann' seems to be a bot inviting people to #topchat by the way
Zerberus
carpii: you then have another mechanism running on that host
service iptables restart <- does that populate the rules?
carpii
yes
Zerberus
and when are they gone?
carpii
i also put a 'service iptables restart' into rc.local just to see if that worked
but it still boots with no rules
when the server first boots, the file is still populated, but iptables -L shows no rules
Ann
hey
Zerberus
carpii: then you will have to analyze the boot process
carpii
thanks, i think I just found the problem in boot.log

Ann

carpii
i have a rule which uses my dynamicdns hostname, but it fails to resolve at boot time
i guess its starting iptables before it has its nic or dns fully set up
axisys
after updating mdadm.conf do I need to rebuild initramfs ?
on centos6
wolfy
yes, otherwise the changes are not seen by dracut
axisys
wolfy: thanks

I am getting a kernel panic suddenly after a network install. Installed 3 vms that boot up fine. This 4th one im trying is getting kernel panic on boot but works with the enforcing=0 command...
fenrus02
interesting. means your labels did not get applied correctly. did it get aborted mid-way through installation ?
hwdplinux
no installation completes, then when it reboots itself, i am able to press enter to start the boot process. right as the lower progress bar starts loading i get the kernel panic
i also get this error in the console
Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_drawable_get_size: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed
TrevorH
remove rhgb quiet from the kernel command line
hwdplinux
and try again?
am I just looking for more info this way?
TrevorH
yes
rhgb quiet hides everything useful
hwdplinux
got it
could it be that my kickstarter files have the wrong selinux context?
TrevorH
sounds a bit unlikely unless you're doing something crazy
hwdplinux
well, I just booted up successfully, but this time instead of using cli to create my storage volume i let the virt-manager do it...
and I did take rhgb quiet removed would not fix the issue I am guessing
Will try one more time with the rhgb quiet removed but will create my own storage volume
TrevorH
it wouldn't have fixed it, it's just to see where it gets to
hwdplinux
Fuck it worked again with a manually created storage volume. Time to try virt-install...

Please keep language family-friendly while in this channel if you could be so kind. Thank you, we appreciate it.
theskillwithin
trying to downgrade from php 5.5 to 5.4
sudo yum downgrade php php-common php-cli didn't work
http://pastie.org/10340440
pj
theskillwithin: are you running cpanel?
Zathrus
theskillwithin: centos doesn't have different versions of php available...

TrevorH
and we definitely do not support the atomic repo
occupant
you might be able to use --replace-with ?
TrevorH
replace-with is from the IUS yum-plugin-replace, not a standard feature
theskillwithin
my etc/yum.preos.d/atomic.repo file is empty maybe this is it
?
TrevorH
we do not support atomic
snadge
cent 7.1 system on kvm.. the server is loaded pretty high, and by the time the console connects to the started guest.. its already booting.. i need to try and catch the pygrub so i can change boot options.. it seems to lock when it boots.. last time I "fixed" this by disabling networkmanager.. but I forget how i got it into single user mode to be able to do that
TrevorH
virsh start $domain --console
snadge
is that a serial console though? because that doesn't seem to do anything until its booted on cent 7 under kvm.. at least i could never get it to work
i tried to enable grub over serial and it doesnt work anyway.. something to do with kernel/libvirt changes
TrevorH
that does assume that you have your console set up correctly yes
is the guest 7.1 too?
snadge
the guest is 7.1 .. the host is not 7.1
so that could be part of the problem
TrevorH
no idea how you get grub2 to speak to a serial console
snadge
when i stuffed around for hours last time.. after reading some bug reports about it, i came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth wasting any more time on.. the spice console is working, and i can connect to that with virt-manager
its just lagged a second or two.. kernel seems too quick to boot
so maybe i can put single user mode into the xml config, and pass that from there
pj
[11:38] <pj> theskillwithin: are you running cpanel?
Zathrus
TrevorH: it's documented; I saw it last week. But the KB article is probably behind the paywall.
TrevorH
Zathrus: I'm sure google knows all about it too but I have no el7 guests so it's not something I've had to look at yet
pj
hang on ... since when does KVM use pygrub?
snadge
maybe it is just grub then
or grub2 more specifically
after rebooting it a few times.. i can now see the boot menu anyway.. i've tried playing around with cpu options, then booted it with one cpu.. and now its working
so from the best i can tell.. theres some kind of race condition relating to systemd and networking
Zathrus
uh... what?
snadge
yeah.. weird.. if i have 2 cpus enabled.. after enabling networking.. or towards end of boot, it just pegs cpu at 100% .. no ping.. unable to log in
if i boot with one cpu enabled.. it seems to work fine
Zathrus
and what makes you think this has anything to do with systemd? Sounds like an issue with your hypervisor to me.
snadge
wouldn't surprise me.. its the only thing i really can't change as well.. its currently running 15 other domains and in production
but this is the only 7.1 guest
since we've been acquired by another company that uses proxmox.. the longer term plan is probably to migrate them all to that
perhaps the short term solution is to just boot with one cpu
Zathrus
particularly if you're overburdoning the host already
snadge
it allegedly has 24 cores.. presumably its a dual hex core with hyperthreading
looks like you may be right.. checked out some of the other guests.. some have 1, some have 4, one has 8.. *facepalm*
hwdplinux
TrevorH You were helping me earlier... I have tried network installs all different kinds of ways and for some unknown reason it works now. boots up fine after install
lol only difference is the rhgb silent
rhgb quiet*
snadge
excellent.. it looks like its a virtio_console problem.. i got it to crash in put_chars function
http://i.imgur.com/5Nl2a6c.png
hwdplinux
snadge in this situation, you feel good cause its fixed, but you dont learn anything
snadge
im just going for gold currently and trying to get more than one cpu working.. if i dont have a win soon, i'll give up ;)
and write it off as "hypervisor too old"
hwdplinux
good luck
snadge
i have a fedora 22 kvm host (test) that doesn't exhibit this problem.. so thats the other extreme
hwdplinux
my problem seems to be gone but i will be testing untill I can recreate or am satisfied
jeffreylevesque
anyone know how to upgrade php5.3 that comes with centos 6.6, to php5.5?
mmlj4
uninstall via yum, and install from source
fenrus02
or better yet, use a repo that has the version you want ..
it is a packaged distro and all.
mmlj4
...as the latest on centos 6.7 is 5.3.3
fenrus02
ex: php55u-5.5.27-1.ius.centos6.x86_64.rpm

Additional packages are often in 3rd party repos. Information on additional CentOS repos is available at http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories Pay attention to the reference on yum-priorities.
