_Tenchi_: nope, I don't believe so.
_Tenchi_: is it ours?
_Tenchi_
yes, i think so
i think it was a mailing list email from mid june that i saw the announcement
wolfy
it is not
_Tenchi_
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2015-June/021162.html
wolfy
https://atlas.hashicorp.com/homepage
_Tenchi_
it's not?
the release announcement looks legit
wolfy
_Tenchi_: and it has zero relantionship with the site you mentioned
you did not read the link I posted, did you ?
_Tenchi_
the atlas landing page?
MerlinTHP
No, but he read the one he posted.

TrevorH
_Tenchi_: do the published shasums in that announcement match the ones of the images you can download from there?
_Tenchi_
i'm confused
TrevorH: lemme check
MerlinTHP
wolfy: the announcement mail from kbs indicates that it really is an official image
TrevorH
yes, it has a link to hashicorp
wolfy
my bad
TrevorH
me, I'd like the shasums to match too ;)
_Tenchi_
wow... they dont have the checksums shown on the atlas page
they really should put them on there
TrevorH
well they are in that announcement
_Tenchi_
yeah the announcement has checksums which apparently correspond to boxes at centos.org
but i dont think atlas pulls from there
maybe im wrong, i dunno...
but i was just wondering about the legitimacy of the atlas profile
it's extremely barebones... doesn't look legit hehe
meandrain
do you know this "machine" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTjm5v4OI_A ?
(2GB RAM, quad core)
_Tenchi_
pulling down the box from atlas now to see if the checksums match
TrevorH
meandrain: not really on topic for here
_Tenchi_
but the atlas urls are referenced in the announcement emails so i'm comfortable at this point
dmilith
hi
i'm under centos 7 and want to use "arp" comand which isn't there by default
can you point me on some sources where can I find it or with what it was replaced on c7?
TrevorH
yum provides ' */arp'
dmilith
thank you
No matches found
TrevorH
how odd
dmilith
ok, net-tools
TrevorH
ah, sorry, I had an embedded blank
dmilith
you actually helped more than you may think :}

Hello. I have Centos 7. I want to do a samba share from it. The client is a Windows 7 enterprise laptop. I am able to connect to the samba server and see the folders. But I am not able to open them. How do I give permission to open folders via samba?
The user already owns that directory (using chown)
And also has 755 permissions
_Tenchi_
TrevorH: to continue the vagrant box discussion earlier... the checksum in the announcemnt email matches the checksum from the download box
TrevorH: but the downloaded box is on cloud.centos.org.
TrevorH: i downloaded and installed that box... and I downloaded and installed the box from atlas which is not a single file
TrevorH: i compared the checksums of each of the files in the box by hand and everything matches
TrevorH: so, i think it's authentic enough for me
TrevorH: it's a shame that atlas doesn't produce/display the checksums of the boxes though
TrevorH
kichuku: did you read the comments at the top of the supplied default smb.conf about selinux changes required?
kichuku
TrevorH: I did the setsebool commands just now. Now I am able to enter inside my home directory. But I have no write access
TrevorH
did you set the context on the files/location
kichuku
TrevorH: I don't understand. Could you please explain?
TrevorH: I did this now setsebool -P samba_export_all_rw on and now I have write access to my home folder. But this will apply to all folders? Or only the folders that I have mentioned in smb.conf file?
TrevorH
read the paragraph that starts "# If you create a new directory, such as a new top-level directory, label it"
kichuku
yes I read that. I do have new directories that I want to share. How can I label them with samba_share_t?
TrevorH
keep reading
kichuku
Yes I found it
So is it possible to set rw to just these directories?
TrevorH
keep reading
the exact command you need is right there
kichuku
I did chcon -t samba_share_t /path/to/directory to the directory that I want to share. I checked now and I am having read write access. it is working fine. I don't understand one thing though. What directories does "setsebool -P samba_export_all_ro on" share? Is it a security risk if it is run when it is not needed? I have already run that command.
sling00
allows the root directory to be shared iirc
root being /
TrevorH
I have never needed to use those setsebool commands
bdonnahue
i cannot seem to get to the bottom of this emergency mode thing. sometimes centos will boot others it fails because it cant mount /boot
TrevorH
I would revert that change and see if it still works, if it does then check semanage fcontext as that's a better way to make the context chnage than chcon
bdonnahue: ask on a xen channel
kichuku
sling00: I am not seeing any extra directories other than the ones I shared when I access the samba share. So does that mean no damage is done?
TrevorH: I have reverted the setsebool command and it still works fine.
Reading aout semanage fcontext now.
I will use that.
bdonnahue
TrevorH: thanks asking
kichuku
How can I remove label for a direcory?
directory
When I do "ls -ldZ" for a particular directory, I see the "samba_share_t" label. When I try to do "sudo semanage fcontext -d" for that directory, it says "File context not defined". What can be problem?
linuxd
how to get gnome?
kaos01
any ideas why /usr/sbin/grub2-probe --target=device /boot woudl fail using multipath/efi error being: /usr/sbin/grub2-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of /dev/mapper/mpathc2.
mmm winder if its to do with bindings , it still contains the userfriendly names when im using aliases
also df shows the aliases
OneM_Industries
So, I have an odd request. I am setting up a small section of my server as a fileserver, and need to create a user that can only access those certain sections and not run any commands etc. How would I do so on centos 6.6?
kaos01
how are you serving files ?
OneM_Industries
Via Fillezilla.
Basic FTP stuff, just as a service for a small group that I am part of.
kaos01
i dint think ftp allows you to execute stuff
or file servers in general
well not on the fileserver ....
OneM_Industries
Here is the thing: some of these people know enough to set up a ssh session, and a few in that group are...curious.
kaos01
ftp access doesnt give you ssh access :)
OneM_Industries
Yeah. But if they know the ip, the password for the account and have some basic knowledge...
Anyway, I just need to know how to set this sort of thing up, if it is even possible.
kaos01
i guess you could do ftp only accounts, restrict ssh acccess to users/groups etc ...
its been a while since i read ftp docs
OneM_Industries
Hm.
Yeah.
I on the other hand have no clue what I am doing or even if it is possible...
So, you are in a more knowledgeable position already. ;]
