oh need to install browscap
yum install browscap
Braden`
Hello!
Is there a way to install CentOS 7 without using the graphical installer?
Zathrus
kickstart
the text based installer is horribly crippled
Braden`
I just need a minimal bare bones with networking really
How do I use kickstart?
theskillwithin2
I don't see a way to install browscap on centos
Braden`
that is for mirrored installations
I don't think that is what I want
Zerberus
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Installation_Guide/chap-kickstart-installations.html
Zathrus
djam90: I don't recall if you need to be root to do setfacl for other users or not; you can test it easily enough. You certainly have to own the files and directories though.
djam90
Zathrus, do you think what I require is possible? The cross account access?

Zathrus
yes. Without root access? I don't know. Go. Test.
djam90
sweet thanks
Braden`
CentOS 7 isn't detecting my built-in network card during installation
PryMar56
Braden`, nvidia + forcedeth?
Braden`
PryMar56: Not sure
Probably intel-based
Zerberus
old fast ethernet?
Braden`
Its a core 2 duo machine
Zerberus
so it is old, maybe elrepo has help
Braden`
elrepo?
Zerberus
@elrepo
centbot
The ELRepo Project is recommended for additional hardware support beyond that provided by the distribution. Please see http://elrepo.org/tiki/tiki-index.php for more information.
Braden`
But how do I connect to it from the installation media?
ke4nhw
I am wanting to test centos as a possible alternative for a server, but am having trouble. I downloaded the CentOS 7 Everything iso and loaded it into VirtualBox. It boots, then I ask to test and Install, all it does is go black and sit there. Is there a problem with this media or should I have downloaded the 7 DVD iso?
Zerberus
Braden`: include it in the kickstart
ke4nhw
any suggestions?
Reg_
how to automate adding an entry to inittab in shell script
Evolution
Reg_: well, since inittab is dead in modern versions of centos.... I'd say "don't"
Reg_: in el6 it's upstart, and in el7 it's systemd. neither one respects /etc/inittab
Reg_
we have older versions in environment. To address those i need to have a script add an entry
Evolution
so use ansible or puppet or similar to do this.
ke4nhw
It's doing it with the dvd version also
Will CentOS not run in vbox or something?

Reg_
in AIX there is a command that adds it directly without using vi.... wondering what is it in centos
Zerberus
echo "foo" >> /etc/inittab; init q
Evolution
Reg_: you're thinking of smtty?
Zathrus
ke4nhw: it will, presuming your version of vbox isn't buggy.
Reg_
mkitab in AIX ... something analogous to that in centos
ke4nhw
I'm running other OS's in vbox, running vbox 5 with extension packs, not having any other problems.
Zathrus
Reg_: Zerberus already gave you the answer
Evolution
Reg_: no.
Reg_
Zerberus: thanks
wolfy
(Action) has a feeling of deja vu
Evolution: say, couldn
xand
someone already answered.
you shouldn't have quit
wolfy
Evolution: say, couldn't he just use lorax ?
Evolution
you know, I think he could just use lorax
n_blownapart
hi I deleted python 2.7.5 inadvertently on centos 7. could anyone direct me to a good tutorial? I don't know linux very well...
i.e. I think I lost yum functionality
sartan
reinstall.
wolfy
n_blownapart: what EXACTLY did you do ?
n_blownapart
sartan: thanks is that a rpm command? I am reading about it...
sartan
do you still have access to your logs n_blownapart
you can wget/curl the rpms from centos repos to reinstall by hand, but plan to reinstall once you get your data backed up
n_blownapart
wolfy tried to rm -rf python 3.4 , picked up python 2.7.5 in the process. I didn't know it was part of the system default.
sartan sorry on a mac right now. I was hoping for tutorials
sartan
it's not something that could be taught we'd have to walk you through it systemetically
wolfy
n_blownapart: look for another system with C7 and transfer the files
rpm will probably not work either without python
n_blownapart
oh sh*t
sorry wolfy what do you mean another system
wolfy
more specifically, without certain python modules
sartan
I think it's time to hire a consultant - and i'm not trying to be rude.
copy your sensitive files off the system, plan to rebuild from scratch
wolfy
which is why I asked what EXACTLY did you do
it depends on what you deleted
can you still use rpm on that box ?
try rpm -qa for instance
n_blownapart
dang many thanks wolfy sartan .. I actually used a wildcard * in frustration. wolfy I'll check tonight many thanks
wolfy
wildcard on WHAT directory ?
n_blownapart
I was root. dont worry its just a home box for tinkering. I'll re install centos 7 it will be good practice.
I was trying to install numpy and it was late. pax
wolfy
oh well.
B_rake
You may be able to boot in to rescue/live cent7 and rsync the contents of the removed dir over
sorry a bit late to seeing the issue :-/
wolfy
B_rake: assuming he is willing to tell himself what directory was it. "cause to me he refused to tell...
B_rake
That's also a good point
sartan
or not so much refused to tell but was incapable of knowing
not out of maliciousness or neglience but rather inexperience
n_blownapart
wolfy no refusals here. just ignorance. I guess I was in / # sartan yes
wolfy
and what command EXACTLY did you use ?
sartan
you think you removed the whole folder, or just the binary?
wolfy
letter by letter, what did you type ?
B_rake
/ is a big place
sartan
B_rake: That's where the dragons be at.
B_rake
lol
wolfy
nono, some of the dragons are in my office
<reg reg.1.musicOnHold.uri="" reg.1.csta="" reg.1.bargeInEnabled="" reg.1.server.1.expires.overlap="" reg.1.server.1.expires="" reg.1.auth.password="14rujixo9" reg.1.label="Here be dragons"
n_blownapart
oh yeah, wolfy I was in /bin # rm -rf python* << I believe this is what happened.
thanks B_rake also
wolfy
n_blownapart: easy fix. sartan's idea should work
try this
cd ~
wget http://mirror.centos.org/centos-7/7.1.1503/os/x86_64/Packages/python-2.7.5-16.el7.x86_64.rpm
