i removed a lv now my box fails on a boot, i rebuild initram but boot image is still looking for non existent lvm
TrevorH
what was the LV you removed in use for?
kaos01
/dev/mapper/SYSTEM-nsr (boot from SAN)
i even edited /etc/default/grub and manually removed it, as initially i though that might be it
i ran dracut -f but the lv still seems to be in boot image
dgbaley
Is there a man page or other concise reference for the settings in /etc/sysconfig/network and network-scripts/ifcfg-*?
kaos01
redhat docs is good
dgbaley
All I can find are examples
kaos01
or /usr/share/doc/initscripts-
deryni-work
Are you looking for a list of possible settings or a guide to what you can do with the settings you see? The redhat networking docs should be pretty good on both those counts I expect.

kaos01
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Networking_Guide/
deryni-work
CentOS 5, CentOS 6 and CentOS 7 are all very different in this area so look at the right docs. (You can mostly handle CentOS 6 like CentOS 5 though I think if you avoid NetworkManager.)
dgbaley
deryni-work: a list; I'm trying to ditch networkmanager for a simple static setup first, then the goal is to start recreating the more complicated setup I had from Ubuntu
I'm on Centos7
deryni-work
Then I probably wouldn't ditch nm and just use nmcli the way the guide probably suggests.
dgbaley
I don't really want to, to my mind NM is for laptops. And I've already fixed one race condition where glusterd wasn't starting by dropping NM
wolfy
dgbaley: on C7 NM is pretty tight integrated and a pain in the ass to remove. On the plus side, it works OK, much better than in the past
deryni-work
Yeah, reports are C7 NM is actually not full of suck.
dgbaley
What about after boot? I like the /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts style because I know it just runs at boot and then gets out of my way. Even on my laptop with the latest version of NM (archlinux) if I starting playing with bridges, macvlans, NM keeps slapping my hands
wolfy
dgbaley: it's still the same
dgbaley
if i start* (believe it or not, English is my first and only)
wolfy
dgbaley: common mistake, my keyboard makes typing errors as well
deryni-work
I would look at the RHEL7 nm/networking docs. They looked pretty reasonable when I looked at them recently. (Other than for programmatic/automated usage perhaps.)
kaos01
mmm, dracut -f --lvmconf :)
damn no that didnt work
RickHull
Hi, I've got a centos 6 system that has used up all its inodes, mostly in /tmp
i see in /var/log/cron that tmpwatch has been running via /etc/cron.daily
but i still have over a weeks worth of files in /tmp
how can i troubleshoot?
TrevorH
if you've used all inodes then you must have more than a few files in /tmp, more like millions
and the default time limit for tmpwatch is 10d in /etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch

hello I am having issues with postfix telling me "localhost postfix/sendmail[10508]: warning: the Postfix sendmail command has set-uid root file permissions
"maillog" 8357L, 1040803C"
I searched online and found that this may be an issue with Cronie but I am up to date
I am using centos 6.2 final
DiscordianUK
Is there some good reason you haven't updated to 6.6 which is current?
igno818
none really, is this what you recommend?
DiscordianUK
Don't msg me igno818
I advise you yum update to 6.6
igno818
Thanks I appreciate it

anyone here use CentOS Web Panel?
TrevorH
@cwp
@centoswebpanel
centbot
The product labeled as 'CentOS Web Panel' is not associated with the CentOS Project in any way, nor is it recommended for use by this channel or the CentOS Project. Additionally there is a matter of Rights Infringement by the non-authorized use of the CentOS Word Mark. Users are strongly cautioned against the use of the product.
FelixFire619
i keep getting instantly logged out of CWP the second i login

We are not able to support either cpanel or the boxes that it is installed upon here due to the many changes that this application makes to the base OS. Please ask in the semi-official #cpanel channel here on Freenode (/join #cpanel) or you may alternatively open a free ticket up via http://tickets.cpanel.net/submit
TrevorH
it has nothing whatsoever to do with CentOS and merely freeloads on the good name that CentOS has gathered
DiscordianUK
Ask your provider
FelixFire619
TrevorH: do you know if they have a Channel here?
DiscordianUK: i am the provider
TrevorH
I don't. One long term member has downloaded and looked at their install script and described it as "junk"
DiscordianUK
If it's the one I suspect it is I value his judgement
billings
huh. centos-webpanel.com has a (C) next to its name, as if they've a copyright on the name
TrevorH
haha, let's hope RH Legal eventually get to them then
billings
http://dl1.centos-webpanel.com/files/cwp-latest is the installer. it's fun to read.
sed -ie "s/umask\=002/umask=022/g" /etc/bashrc >/dev/null 2>&1
hah
nice... installs rpmforge, disables selinux.
compiles apache, php and friends instead of using packages.
TrevorH
it even advertises that it builds apache from source as a feature!
billings
this is truly garbage.
fenrus02
complete and absolute failure.

anyone know how to add an open/authorized/allowed port to selinux?
I get this trying to do it, https://gist.github.com/salamanderrake/767b085c4b783a08e95b
FelixFire619
Anyone recommend a good Web Panel for server hostin??
sekhmet
FelixFire619: *This* channel would be unlikely to recommend *any* panel, since none are bundled with CentOS, and we can't support panel-managed systems in here
FelixFire619: I've heard as of awhile ago that webmin supports their product reasonably well, though - you could ask in #webmin. Note that if you *do* run webmin on your system, you'd need to go there for support questions, generally.

@panels
centbot
Due to the gross changes that panels make to the underlying OS we are unable to support such boxes in this channel as they are effectively no longer running CentOS but rather a mixture of CentOS and the parts that they have replaced. You are encouraged to contact your hosting provider or panel vendor for further assistance.

i setup a ip in centos 5 fresh stock install, i used
ipconfig 192.111.###.## broadcast 192.111.###.## netmask 255.255.255.# then route add default gw 192.111.###.## everyime i reboot it disappears how do i fix that?
pj
FelixFire619: you need to create the proper network script files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/
also, why are you doing an install of CentOS 5 now?
FelixFire619
its the image thats available to my OpenVZ atm so i used it
pj
ummmmm, two things bad about that. one openvz isn't CentOS, and does not install CentOS, it installs something like CentOS but it's not the same. CentOS 5 is currently supported (thought not running in openvz) but only for another year and a half or so before it goes EOL, you really should be installing 7 or even 6
@c5eol
centbot
CentOS 5 will go EOL on 31 March, 2017 -- in 1 year, 36 weeks, 6 days, 21 hours, 19 minutes, and 51 seconds
pj
@c6eol
centbot
CentOS 6 will go EOL on November 30, 2020 -- in 5 years, 19 weeks, 5 days, 21 hours, 19 minutes, and 48 seconds
pj
@c7eol
centbot
CentOS 7 will go EOL on 30 June, 2024 -- in 8 years, 50 weeks, 1 day, 21 hours, 19 minutes, and 46 seconds
FelixFire619
pj, i have CentOS 5 EXACTLY installed on my openvz.. Thx :)
pj
no, you don
don't
FelixFire619
ok
i installd it
