Hello all! http://pastebin.com/08naFcZk Trying to kickstart a CentOS domain with kvm using this virt-install command. But it seems like after it gets the kernel and initrd the VM itself can't access the network. I'm not sure if I'm providing the wrong virt-install options or wrong CentOS 7 options (they've changed since 6 apparently) or what. Someone care to take a look and tell me what I'm doing wrong here?
smooge
tessier, looking
tessier, what is --network bridge=copilot-dmz
and is that what you use with RHEL-6?
tessier
smooge: This is a KVM VM. I want it on bridge copilotdmz. And yes, that is what I use wht RHEL 6.
smooge
I have not played with multiple bridge so I need to refresh on that
tessier
It's just one bridge that this VM is accessing.
Zerberus
and that bridge is functional?
tessier
Zerberus: Now that's a good question...this is the first VM running on that bridge on this machine...let me check...
meandrain
it is valid if I put kern.*.none in rsyslog.conf ?
or kern.warning.none
Zerberus
no
syslog() faciliy.priority
tessier
Zerberus wins a cookie! The bridge interface itself existed but did not have link state up. link set copilot-dmz up was all it took. Thanks! I have run into that issue so many times before. On CentOS 6 I would have known it right away. But the network stuff changed so much in CentOS 7 that I was distracted by a lot of other issues and completely forgot that one.
Zerberus
tessier: congrats
smooge
oh in case you want rhel-6 named interfaces
Zerberus
meandrain: what do you want to achieve?
meandrain
Zerberus: move logging of kernel.warning from /dev/console to /var/log/kernel.log disable kernel.info logging on /var/log/messages
smooge
tessier, you can add net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0 to the inside of the " " string
that will put the ethernet as eth0 in that case
tessier
smooge: Thanks.
Zerberus
meandrain: kernel.!=warning /dev/console
meandrain
Zerberus: thank you
well I still see logging on console. Is it true that iptables logs on kernel.warning ?
https://dpaste.de/v2X1
Zerberus
meandrain: don't know the default syslog() priority
meandrain
https://dpaste.de/cvjx

Zerberus
meandrain: kern.!=warning /dev/console <- not kernel. as I wrote previously
meandrain
right, sorry
Zerberus
in iptables you set "--log-level" to specify a log level
meandrain
it worked, except I must figure out what log level is set in iptables and remove it from /dev/console
Sokel
So I have identical configs between EL6 and EL7 for sssd. On EL6, if I do id username, their secondary groups appear. On EL7, they do not appear. Is there an option I now need in EL7?
Zerberus
Sokel: one problem one channel query please
eb0t
i wonder if anyone could advise me on the following
http://lpaste.net/136299
uid1
eb0t: OpenVPN is what I'd recommend. Accessing VNC via SSH (no VPN req'd) by using the -Y switch (I think - check x-forwarding in man pages)
Also, with OpenVPN's client-to-client config setting, you could VNC from remote to remote - no SSH to server step req'd
eb0t
ah ok ...thanks for that uid1 ill look into it
this open vpn is sounding pretty great
uid1
It is one of the best-engineered pieces of software I've ever encountered
eb0t
wow ...SOLD
im definitely going to try it
thanks
uid1
YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary), but it's very well regarded
wolfy
eb0t: can you access the machines directly ?
eb0t
at this moment yes
im also a bit curious abotu the best linux vnc client
dbclk
hey guys...anyone knows how i can fix this http://pastie.org/10285469?
wolfy
because if you can ssh to the machines directly, you do not need vnc server,. you can use x11vnc instead
or even freenx
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/FreeNX
and there also exists x2go
BUT if you need to setup a VPN first, openVPN is by far the easiest
eb0t
ah x11vnc hey that freenx looks good but it says for centos 5 and 6 i was installing centos 7
Zerberus
dbclk: fix what?
wolfy
eb0t: look into x2go
eb0t
will it be fine on centos 7
fenrus02
x2go is nice. much better than vnc.
eb0t
ah ok ...my aim is to get a robust set up ...that is extremely secure
wolfy
ssh and openvpn are pretty similar, both rely on SSL
eb0t
cool
wolfy
but it depends heavily on your setup
dbclk
Zerberus: that warning
eb0t
with all this stuff available for ssh...what is the point in setting up a vpn
wolfy
ssh has a lot of cool features. beside X-Forwarding there also are tunneling options. see -L and -R
Zerberus
dbclk: follow it
dbclk: simply run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
eb0t
at work though we use windows machines..so i think i need a proper vpn so i can get on the server
from there not sure how im gonna speak to linux ....i think linux has rdp or something
sorry windows
i know i can ssh using securecrt onto the linux server
meandrain
any idea how I run/setup this sysctl variable from command line: kernel.printk = 3 4 1 7
DiscordianUK
Using sysctl
oddly , man sysctl
meandrain
sysctl -p will reload values from /etc/sysctl.conf. Thought it could be run from terminal like sysctl kernel.printk = 3 4 1 7
Zerberus
meandrain: not only by sysctl -p
DiscordianUK
You can do it via a sysctl command line
meandrain
(Action) is reading the man page
DiscordianUK
sysctl -w
meandrain
DiscordianUK: thanx
(the same as in FreeBSD)
DiscordianUK
You'd also want to update /etc/sysconfig/sysctl to make it survive boots
meandrain
it is not enough to edit /etc/sysctl.conf?
DiscordianUK
oops you're correct not me
