eb0t
hey i have a server that i want to make into a fileserver that serves files to linux and windows pcs
which version of centos should i isntall
DiscordianUK
7 is the latest
7.1
eb0t
if i want to make sure its stable etc shoudl i go for the centos 6.6
and do i need to worry aout raid
or can i set all that up later
DiscordianUK
7.1 is stable
eb0t
another quick thing....i will be adding more disks to the server eventually ..it can only hold 2 disks but i got a sata card which makes it hold one more
will it be ok to add more disks later
or will it get tricky
centos 7 it is
DiscordianUK
I don't think there's a limit on disks
TheSeven
hm, I'm having issues with centos 7.1 boxes spuriously requesting dhcp IPs during boot
networkmanager isn't installed on those, I'm wondering what's doing that and how to disable it
ifcfg file for the interface has ONBOOT="no"
(reason for not using networkmanager is that I'm running ovirt on those boxes - but this seems to happen before ovirt starts, very early during boot - ovirt then fixes it up)
dan_j
Hi, when creating a lv snapshot, does the size have to be identical to the original lv that i'm taking a snapshot of? Or does the size just cap the amount of changes that it can keep track of?
TheSeven
the latter

Bahhumbug
Caps the amount of delta differences.
dan_j
Thanks
_val_
TheSeven: I don't think the ONBOOT directive controls how an IP is assigned to the interface. You might define BOOTPROTO=none or static.
TheSeven
well I don't want it to bring that interface up *at all*
ovirt will later take care of it (and configure it as a VLAN trunk)
so assigning any IP to that interface is just nonsense
Bahhumbug
pastebin the ifcfg file in question.
dan_j
When I try to mount a snapshot, i get asked for the filesystem type. But when i specify it, it says its wrong.
TheSeven
Bahhumbug: http://pastebin.centos.org/29176/
Bahhumbug
And eno0 is polling for dhcp?
Err, eno1
TheSeven
yes
Bahhumbug
HWADDR matches for that interface?
TheSeven
yes, it does... boot log except: http://pastebin.centos.org/29181/
a whole mess going on there...
Bahhumbug
I'm wondering if the fact that it appears to be vlan-tagged is playing a part///
s|/|.|
TheSeven
yes, seems to... it's probably implicitly brought up by that
_val_
The configuration seems to be generated by vdsm. Vlan shouldn't have to do anything with this indeed.
TheSeven
and adding BOOTPROTO=none to the vdsm-generated config for eno1 seems to stop it from doing that
but vdsm of course wipes that away all the time
_val_
TheSeven: have you checked http://www.ovirt.org/Vdsm_Network ?
TheSeven
hm, not quite sure what that's supposed to tell me
_val_
I'm not an expert in oVirt but there should be an option to exclude clients from vdsm network control.
TheSeven
well this box is hosting VMs so that's not particularly practical
cohonen
so MANdatory exclusive/write locks on NFSv4 mount's . Are they possible ?

_val_
cohonen == testorific. Is cross-questioning appreciated?
Bahhumbug
@crosspost
@crossposting
Sigh...
@alias add crossposting echo We would appreciate it if you would not cross-post questions to multiple channels. Many of us are on the other channels you're posting to and it's annoying and you will find many will be less than helpful as a result.
centbot
Bahhumbug: Got it
dan_j
What file is the hostname stored it?
in*
Found it
AntonTakk
Is there by chance any place I could find an install CD for CentOS7 whthout EFI booting support?
wolfy
AntonTakk: no.
AntonTakk: disable efi from BIOS if you do not want to use it
fenrus02
why would you require something like that?
AntonTakk
Can't do that on a mac mini, to my knowledge
fenrus02
then it simply wont boot.
mac's have efi+ .. entirely different from the bios. if you "disabled" it - you would not boot anything at all.
AntonTakk
according to my research, there is a bug in the efi on a Macmini2,1, and there is no updated firmware, and the only documented work around I have found is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=527443#c21
was simply checking if such a thing already existed to possibly save some time
fenrus02
that was closed:notabut
err closed:notabug
AntonTakk
notabug in fedora/rhel, yes
fenrus02
that's also several years prior to el7.
AntonTakk
a bug in the EFI firmware on the mac
fenrus02
it's not efi.
efi != efi+ != uefi != bios
AntonTakk
i understand this
the point is there is a bug in the firmware on the mac for which there is no fix
fenrus02
not a bug.
AntonTakk
not a bug in CentOS7/Fedora/RHEL, correct
fenrus02
not a bug according to the manufacturer either.
the latest it support is still ancient. something like 10.7 ..
AntonTakk
and your point?
fenrus02
old hw does not cope with new os -- this is nothing newsworthy
AntonTakk
it is not the OS
it is booting the install cd
fenrus02
good luck to you then. eventually you'll figure it out.
sling00
apple caring about anything not OSX related... GLHF with that..
AntonTakk
I don't expect apple to care.
and for future reference, a Fedora Server 22 i386 cd boots and seems to be working just fine
Bahhumbug
And for future reference... apples and oranges and no one cares.
fnoyanisi
hi, is centos and rhel binary compatible
Bahhumbug
10 seconds with google would have answered that.
But yes.
billings
For the most part, yes.
Bahhumbug
That's... interesting. You responded to something posted before you joined.
fnoyanisi
Bahhumbug :I Think it is your irc client
Bahhumbug
I think you really don't know what you're talking about.
fnoyanisi
hmm..another "odd" point of view
do I offend you if I ask why?
darius93
is ipv6 enabled in the kernel by default?
crag
darius93, for 7?
Bahhumbug
Yes.
darius93
yes crag
crag
yep
wingman2
I'm having a problem at the moment
