Sokel
leolrrj: It does not. rpm -q httpd would tell you if something like that is there though.
kaos01
wolfsburg18 im guessing it would turn up in messages
wolfsburg18 you can test it with logger
wolfsburg18
I figured out how to turn on debugging for syslog-ng but not sure why the filter is failing. Need to understand how to view the facility associated to the message
TrevorH
where have you told it to route local3 to?
wolfsburg18
/var/log/sshdrs/sshdrs.log and on servers where syslog-ng is not present it works just fine
wolfy
good thing that centos does not provide syslog-ng then
wolfsburg18
Taking a different approach Wolfy, how would I idenitfy if "SOCK_STREAM" or "SOCK_DGRAM" is being used by syslogd, further how would I see the facility which is tied to the message because the configuration of the daemon is for "AUTHPRIV" but not coming through that way
wolfy
doesn't fuser or lsof help in identify the type of socket ?
*indetifying
..whatever
to be honest your question seems like a perfect candidate for systemtap
wolfsburg18
Thanks wolfy, not really familiar with systemtap yet, just want to resolve the issue I am having. Found the root finally which is "Access denied for user by PAM account configuration" Not sure why it would have an issue as all other accounts are not having this issue and not sure how to troubleshoot PAM yet

a disk was delete which was /dev/vg_cs/lv_var which obviously was /var. How can i create it ...
tried pvcreate --restorefile file.vg -u uuid_name but it keeps saying can find device with that uuid
wolfsburg18
is it simply not mounted or is your physical/volume group and logical volume not available
lnb
its not mounted
its /dev/sdb or /dev/sdb1
and i put partion on /dev/sdb which made sdb1
partition i meant
wolfsburg18
execute the following please and put in pastebin or such commands: pvdisplay, vgdisplay and lvdisplay also do a ls -la / so we can see what you have on root
also cat your /etc/fstab
lnb
wolfsburg18: http://pastebin.ca/3195723
wolfsburg18
Looks like you have a failed disk because of the "Could not find device with uuid" the pvdisplay is showing you are missing 10GB of disk, can you do fdisk -l and ls -la /dev/disk/ or /dev/disk/by-uuid and append it to your pastebin or create a new one
lnb
wolfsburg18: prior to asking, i ran some commands and that is why that device is showing up twice.
i added a second disk to the vm
which is /dev/sdb
and then fdisk it and now there is also /dev/sdb1
greentj
hay all, has anyone successfully built hylafax 6 on centos 7?
lnb
i have to remove those two other entries
wolfsburg18
Inb can you post your paste again, I stopped after I saw the invalid uuid
lnb
wolfsburg18: the whole thing again?
wolfsburg18
I closed the browser and your removed your paste expired or was removed, hard to help fix it without seeing the info
lnb
wolfsburg18: i have pvdisplay now show just one .. pv name /dev/sda2
no duplicates or unknowns
wolfsburg18: do i need to run pvcreate to use the device /dev/sdb or /dev/sdb1
cdrakka
I have a system with 4 built-in GigE ports, and a PCI card with 4 GigE ports. They are all Intel "igb" style. I want to use some with SR-IOV and KVM, but others as just regular interfaces. The documentation I see seems to make it look like all of the igb interfaces will have to be SR-IOV. Is that correct? If it's possible to do some SR-IOV and some not, where can I find documentation on how to accomplish t
his?
lnb
wolfsburg18: or put it this way, need pvdisplay to show second disk which is /dev/sdb1
wolfsburg18
Inb short version for adding and mounting a disk fdisk /dev/{disk} > N > P > T {linux lvm} > W, confirm that the disk is now present with fdisk -l, pvcreate /dev/{disk}, vgcreate vg_{name} /dev/{disk}, vgdisplay {look at extends}, lvcreate vg_{name} -l {extends from vgdisplay} -n {name}, make sure the {directory} desired is created, mount /dev/vg_{name}/{lv name} {directory}, cat /etc/mtab > copy the new mount line and paste in /etc/fstab
lnb
wolfsburg18: i have the disk added now to /dev/mapper
wolfsburg18: but cannot mount /var
wolfsburg18: fdisk /dev/mapper/vg_cs/lv_var has no partitions
need to fdisk and partition it?
TrevorH
you don't partition logical volumes
lnb
hmm
ok
well i blew that then
TrevorH
by the sounds of it, with all the experimentation that you've done, I suspect that your data is long gone

wolfsburg18
Back to what I said after reviewing the paste, either a failed disk or something occurred so either way the data was gone but still possible to create a new mount point and have a new /var volume to move forward, not sure if this was a VM but this is why backups are life savers
lnb
wolfsburg18: i am in a shell after rebooting and it stops, i cannot seem to save changes to /etc/fstab. How to get around this?
wolfsburg18
you have root access to the system right?
lnb
yes
wolfsburg18
is the file system not writeable?
lnb
its not fully booted
TrevorH
single user mode?
lnb
yes
TrevorH
mount -o remount,rw /
lnb
ok #'d /var
lets see if it boots
yes
booted
wolfsburg18
@TrevorH, any insight on fixing "Access denied for user {user} by PAM account configuration" going through secure shell using key pair, the key pair is good but not sure why PAM fails
lnb
got it now
mkfs.ext4 /dev/vg_cs/lv_var
is there any command to recreate the default files/dirs in /var ?
ls /var lost+found
wolfsburg18
@TrevorH, disregard, had a bad directive in my PAM configuration
TrevorH
lnb: nothing simple but you might be able to cobble something together with the output of rpm -Va | grep var
_TWS
need help opening a port using firewalld. tried google, but not finding useful example or an explanation why someone took the horrorshow of iptables and wrap it with something worse.
nevermind. killed firewalld and installed/enabled iptables
lnb
crap
ftp-restore screwed it worse
i am in an rdshell
mount / can't find in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
how to mount / ?
chder
Doesn't it usually mount / to /sysroot or is that too early? /proc/cmdline should tell it where the root device is.
uid1
Does C7 use grub2 ?
pj
uid1: yes
sartan
xfs for all!
cyberworm54
btrfs all things!
uid1
btrfs requires too many btrfsck runs for my liking, else won't boot. It's got a lot of potential though.

you guys don't run your prod systems on squashfs or jffs2?
enjoy paying Sandisk for all your hard drive space hurr hurr
sdgathman
Ext4 has the best performance on flash stick / mmc drives. Haven't done or followed benchmarks on SSDs, however.
sartan
doesn't that just entirely depend on file/block size
i've got a lot of 'big data' that ext4 chokes on, xfs eats it up quickly and nicely
like 200gb files
Now: i don't pretend to actually know that much about this topic, but that's what i've observed and what i keep finding from vendor recommendations. for big data (big files), xfs > *
fenris02
"big data" != "big files" -- very different markets.

Centos 7, getting error /boot filesystem cannot be of type lvmlv, even though it is set to standard part and EFI sys part
davidmichaelkarr
I'm having persistent problems with getting my HP CentOS7.1 laptop detect my external monitor at home. It only works if I reboot. That's not very convenient.
Is this possibly a Gnome problem, or just CentOS7?
fenris02
try any other desktop environment. odds are, it's just gnome. but you wont know until you try something else.
sartan
fenris02: i do 'big data' too, lots of small files :) agre!

Wondering why the user I created during install which was marked to receive admin rights is not in /etc/sudoers file. Is being in wheel group enough to use sudo?
djam90
Hi.. when I run anything from php-cli on CentOS 6.7 there are no ansi colours (connecting via PuTTY on Windows), I am pretty sure it used to have colours.. but we did upgrade PHP recently from 5.4 to 5.5
Strangely, when using a PHP framework Laravel, running any scripted jobs from it, such as "php artisan", there is an option to force ansi by doing --ansi which does work
RemiFedora
djam90, centos doesn't provide php 5.5 ;)
