evil_steve
yeah. But looking at that, I can't help but think that we really as threatened as we think we are.
there's meant to be another "are" there, someone with an inclination can work out where "/
Evolution: how good is the Centos support for Xen?
I've got to build up a Xen host, and I'd rather use Centos than a fisher-price linux like ubuntu
k-y
evil_steve: wait for CentOS5
evil_steve
k-y: I'd love to, but the box needs to be up in the next 14 days
k-y
5 might be out by then ;)
evil_steve
big might there, son
elderrr
can someone help me with a RAID array problem on a centos with software raid
?
peerce
elderrr; noone can answer that metaquestion without knowing WHAT the RAID problem is.
elderrr
peerce, i have a server where the raid died and i replaced one of the hard drives
riddlebox
is there something wrong with the mirrors? yum install openssl I keep getting Header is not complete Trying another mirror

elderrr
peerce, but the new hard drive added is 3 cylinder smaller so i must resize it
peerce, like here http://pastebin.ca/343320 so i need to downsize hdb2 from 274 to 271 since the active SWAP part is 3 cylinders bigger.. the raid wont sync
peerce
elderrr; good luck. a -very- good reason to always leave a few slack cylinders at the end of a drive in a raid
elderrr
peerce, too late now i guess :)
DAddYE
hello to all
ive this problem
[root@62 freetype-2.3.0]# convert label:abcdef test.gif
convert: FreeTypeLibraryIsNotAvailable `(null)'.
any?
riddlebox
is there something wrong with the mirrors? yum install openssl I keep getting Header is not complete Trying another mirror?
does anyone have any mirrors for the base install?
anthony]
hey guys.
riddlebox
hey
is anyone else having problems with yum repos?
peerce
no
what problems?
riddlebox
Header is not complete Trying another mirror
I need to get a bunch of packages installed on this system but I cannot if that keeps happening
if you change a line in /etc/yum.repos.d, is there anything you have to do afterwards?
peerce
nope, its read each time yum runs
riddlebox
what the heck then
anthony]
anyone here have servers in an actual datacenter?
Dyson
erm... yes?
why do you ask?
anthony]
Just curious
Which DC?
peerce
the ones at work. also, a former above.net datacenter in san jose (I forget who's running the center now, these 2 servers are in sublet rackspace)
of course, any room with servers in it is technically a datacenter. so I dunno what 'actual' means
bernardl
well the servers need to be "actual" of course :)
Dyson
anthony]: different DCs - all in Germany :)
evil_steve
anthony]: 3 in Sydney, Aus.
ugarit
besides the standard repos what do you guys recommend?
alleycat
ugarit: in order to obtain what ?

ugarit
phpmyadmin, etc
riddlebox
it is so weird, I did the install today, did the updates, now I cannot use yum at all
alleycat
i do not think phpmyadmin is packaged for centos
i am not sure though
ugarit: http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories
ugarit
alleycat thanks
alleycat
if I were you I would grab the latest rpm from fc and rebuild
although it might work out-of-the-box, it's just a bunch of php
Daemoen
dag, were you able to find a solution?
ZBandit
As if I don't have better things to do... should I decide to compile the newest version of sendmail (8.14.0), how can I compile it to match how centos's rpm is set up
not_a_k
is it possible to update the list of groups I belong to without logging out and logging back in?
riddlebox
arghhhh why cant I use yum
Daemoen
Zbandit, check the compile paths
other than that, shouldnt be any serious issues
ZBandit
where are the compile paths located?
riddlebox
can someone pastebin their yum.repos.d for me please?
Daemoen
find / -name sendmail and keep track of everything ZBandit
and then look at the path dirs you can set, they will usually be set using the configure script
riddlebox, all of our yum.repos.d are going to be vastly different
riddlebox
the thing is I get an error Header is not complete Trying another mirror
Daemoen
ok... which repo?
riddlebox
it goes through all of them I guess
at the end it says no more mirrors to try
Daemoen
.... thats not the repo thats faiing
which repository is this error happening wit?
if you cant provide us the details, there is no way we can help you
riddlebox
it goes through a bunch of different mirrors
Daemoen
the mirrors doesnt mean a thing
when you are doing yum it will tell you *which* repo you are accessing
riddlebox
mirrors.cat.pbx.edu
ZBandit
owch.
riddlebox
ok I will try to look through
Daemoen
lol, that find will return every location for anything with sendmail in the name ZBandit, it is useful for making sure you have the right locations for like the doc directory, the executable path, etc
riddlebox, where did you get the repo from?
how did you get ti.
s/ti/it
ZBandit
is there a repos that is... bleeding edge builds for cos 4.4
?
Daemoen
not exactly. the closest you would find to that would be the centosplus, but its not really bleeding edge
riddlebox
my yum.repos.d goes through it I guess, it is set for mirrorlist.centos.org
Daemoen
(Action) takes a step back to try and figure out what riddlebox is attempting to do.
Ok riddlebox first off.. are you familiar with repositories and how they work, what they provide?
riddlebox
I just did a fresh install of centos, did the update, now I am trying to use yum and this is the error I get
Daemoen
ZBandit, what are you looking for?
riddlebox
yes I am familiar with yum, + fedora
Daemoen
ok riddlebox... did you add any external repos?
ZBandit
Daemoen: I need sendmail 8.14.0. it has a nice new feature I really want to use. it only took sendmail a few years to get it.
riddlebox
Daemoen, no I havent changed anything
I imagine it is the CentOS-Base.repo that has the problem
Daemoen
riddlebox, I just tesed yum on mine and works fine. there has to be an external issue.
riddlebox, yum clean headers and try again :)
ZBandit, i think there are rpms already provided for sendmail 8.14
not_a_k
newgrp looked promising.. but that doesn't seem to work
riddlebox
Daemoen, it still has the problem
Daemoen
ok, do a yum clean all, yum --disablerepo=<onerepoatatime> and see which is doing the header issues
for an entire mirrorlist to fail... thats HIGHLY unlikely
ZBandit
Daemoen: oh really?!? Where might one find them? does rpmfind.net
Daemoen
rpmfind == bad
ZBandit
ok... no mo rpmfind. :)
Daemoen
try to stick with trusted sources for your rpms or you will wind up with a huge dependency mess
reliable sources: rpmforge, karan's repos, base, extras, plus
those should usually provide everything you need
give me a sec
ZBandit
I'll give you 2 secs. :P
riddlebox
Daemoen, I get syntax error near unexpected token `newline`
Daemoen
lol. at the moment, it does appear that sendmail 8.13 is the newest
riddlebox, .... what do you mean you get a syntax error?
ZBandit
8.14 is the newest
Daemoen
thats a command line option.. where can you have a syntax error?
riddlebox
thats what I got when I did that command
Daemoen
did you use each individual repo one at a time?
riddlebox
ohh sorry lol
Daemoen
(Action) bonks riddlebox
ZBandit, you can either compile it with the necessary options yourself, thus replacing your current one, make an rpm of it yourself, *or* wait for someone else to provide an rpm
which feature was it you were waiting for? the transparent headers?
riddlebox, by disabling each specific mirror one at a time, we are able to isolate which one is creating the problem and go from there
riddlebox
Deamoen, yeah I thought that command would do it for me lol
didnt realize I had to enter each one
Daemoen
lol
riddlebox
(Action) ducks
ZBandit
can a spec file for an older version of sendmail work with the new version for compiling?
Daemoen
(Action) waits for him to pop back up before bonking this time
You would have to update things but yes
(Action) glances at the sendmail INSTALL and debates making an rpm.
hrm. since im not a known contributor, might be best to wait for those guys * points at dag and z00dax *
ZBandit
other than the version numbers, what else should be updated?
Daemoen
depends on where you got the spec file
ZBandit
looking for the spec file for the 8.13.x version
Dyson
ZBandit: what feature? Maybe I like it, too. :)
Daemoen
specfiles use variables that define the paths used to install the proram as well as the dependencies (another big section)
riddlebox
Daemoen, I cannot figure it out I always get that syntax error
Daemoen
ok.. riddlebox paste your /etc/yum.repos.d contents to pastebin and send me the link
riddlebox
ok
ZBandit
Dyson: the biggest one I'm wanting to use is the refusal of mail if the mx record doesn't exist for the senders.
Dyson
ZBandit: hmm...
ZBandit: I already have that for postfix :)
ZBandit
yeah, I'm looking at sendmail replacement options now too. :) I mean I've been with sendmail since..... well, SLS. :)
Daemoen
(Action) loves sendmail.... but... prefers kolab :-D
ZBandit
kolab?
Dyson
ZBandit: i like sendmail, but for "normal" internet mail (i.e. no uucp or other weird stuff) postfix is just easier to use
ZBandit
I like easier. :)
Dyson
ZBandit: i use postfix everywhere I don't require a specific feature of sendmail - which is in fact almost everywhere
ZBandit: the best thing is: the config file is optimized for humans :)
ZBandit
:)
riddlebox
Daemoen, this is most of it, pastebin.ca/343472, there are some other things in there but I figure this is most of what you want
