karrotx
in centos how do you add a package to startup?
Dyson
karrotx: you do not add a "package" to startup
karrotx
oh?
Dyson
karrotx: but if the package installs a rc-script in /etc/init.d you can configure the service to start on boot with chkconfig
karrotx: at least if you refer to "system boot"
karrotx
yes, that's what i wanted
thanks
[domon]
okay, so i'm trying to setup SVN on my server :) running cpanel as well.
karrotx
what is the importance of /etc/issue?
[domon]
i have no idea wtf i'm doing >_>
and my server admin isn't around
Dyson
karrotx: it is not really important

[domon]
there are a crapload of dependencies i need to install, but idk how to install them
Dyson
karrotx: it contains the greeting that is printed above the login prompt
[domon]: did you try yum install svn?
[domon]
yeah
Arrfab
[domon] : contact cpanel for support ....
[domon]
wait now it's working
:|
karrotx
Dyson: that's what i thought, i wasn't sure if it was used for anything else
Arrfab
Dyson : it's a cpanel hacked box ...
Dyson
*shiver*
(Action) shuts up
[domon]
yes i hate it too
No Match for argument: svn
:(
karrotx
[domon]: cpanel sucks
[domon]
i know
Dyson
ups...
sharpie
everything sucks
karrotx
no, not everything; rottweilers don't suck
Dyson
[domon]: the package is called subversion and is in dag's repository
jerb
yeah they bite
karrotx
cpanel is awful though; it really isn't cpanels fault
it's what cpanel leads to
[domon]
okay, i found somethin...lol...
a cpanel install guide for svn
LuvRedheads
either way ..cpanel is not supported here ...
[domon]
sucks..>_<
ugh

soulofdeath
can anyone go to http://www.twinelements.com.au and tell me what they see, please
[domon]
a page that loads forever :P
soulofdeath
okay, that might be my isp blocking the port
:(
is there away to redirect the ports if it is blocked?
Evolution
start apache on a port they don't block, and include the port in the url
soulofdeath
and people really wanna type :421 after my already long url
lol
rescuechicken
anyone know of any free nameservers? my current isps aren't working? ;s
soulofdeath
u can use mine
u need ip or host name
rescuechicken: u can use my dns server if u like, it's on t3
anyone know how to get apache to send a request through a proxy?
k-y
use mod_proxy?
soulofdeath
i got now i dea how and what exactly it does
also, if I use a proxy does that mean it's gotta redirect port 80 to me?
k-y: u there
k-y
yes, but i am working
soulofdeath
ok.........
anyone here that does not have a webserver?
so_
or 10?
jsoftw
Anyone know of a centos repository that has a postifx with mysql support?
alleycat
jsoftw: centosplus
jsoftw: or grab the src.rpm from postfix.wl0.org and compile one suited to your needs
jsoftw
yeah I just figured that :D enabled the centos plus repo :)
alleycat
if postfix v2.2.10 is OK for you, by all means do use centosplus
Daemoen
hey guys
installed the mono rpms from rpmforge, including mono-web... but having trouble locating mod_mono
anyone else here use the mono rpms ?
Mrono
anyone know how to unlock a firestarter firewall remotely
i managed to lock my self out of my server
PAL16
Anyone know if Marvell 88e8001 is supported in 4.4?
Evolution
Mrono: you don't. that's the beauty of a tight firewall.
PAL16: built onto your board?
mmcgrath
Mrono: some lessons are best learned the hard way
PAL16
I'm having trouble installing on an asus p5b-v. The install doesn't recognize the pata controller and I can't do http install either
Evolution
ugh
(Action) has learned to dislike asus boards
PAL16
yeah
Fedora core has no problem though
Evolution
PAL16: fedora uses a much newer kernel
but the answer to your question would seem to be 'no'
PAL16
yes, maybe I should go with that. It shall only run vmware
but vmware is a hassle to install in fedora instead
Daemoen
Evolution: you happen to have seen any questions concerning dag's mono rpms?
( excluding my own of course )
Evolution
Daemoen: no, sorry. but then I try to keep people away from useless software catering to microsoft lackeys
:-p
RadSurfer
where do I look to learn how to control what auto-update is allowed to change?
Evolution
http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/ProtectBase
RadSurfer
'k
Evolution
as well as /etc/yum.conf and /etc/yum.repos.d/*
Daemoen
95% of business are still using microsoft, and until DRM manages to kill windows, most places are still stuck supporting ASP
whether they want to or not
HM2K
Evolution i'm having problems getting authd to return a username as the ident instead of an encryption of "Salted_", it is possible for authd to do this?
i read the assosiated readme.html, and could not locate any details of this
Evolution
HM2K: yes, but I haven't messed with authd/ident in eons, as it's exceptionally worthless.
Daemoen: there are some updated packages at http://www.mono-project.com/Start
HM2K
its not very often I use a centos box for identd, but i am working on an eggdrop project on my local development server and require an identd
Evolution could you kindly point me in the right direction to achieve what i'm trying to do? I checked the /etc/xinetd.d/auth, and the readme.html for the correct flags, but can't seem to get it to work
seems i needed the --username flag
not_a_k
any idea why vsftpd might be causing some ftp clients to hang?
does centos have any other ftp servers in the official repositories
Evolution
not_a_k: are you using a firewall on that box?
not_a_k: I suspect you're running into a firewall limitation regarding passive ftp port ranges.
js1
when i plug my USB key, /media/USB_MEMORY/ is created, when I copy files: cp /tmp/file.zip /media/USB_MEMORY files are copied, if i remove the usb key and replug it in, the files copied are not there anymore (either in linux or windows) WHY? and how can i copy files to my usb key "permenently"
Daemoen
hey Evolution, nother question for ya ;) the jpackage repo, safe to use alongside the common ones... rpmforge, base, etc?
Evolution
js1: you likely did not unmount the disk before removing it.
js1
it's automount....
[domon]
js1: files aren't written until it's unmounted
js1
:|
Evolution
js1: right. auto *mount* .. not auto *unmount*
you have to unmount the usb stick, or in the gui, tell it to eject.
js1
ok
but where are the files copied?
when i do ls?
i see them like if they were "written"
i can even unzip it
[domon]
it's just a link at that point :|
Evolution
js1: they're there.
BlackHand
js1: they are written in temp cache that flush completly when u unmount the device
[domon]
hmmz...
Evolution
[domon]: not completely accurate
js1
they're there.... "where"
[domon]
ah ok
js1
but why they are written when i umount
[domon]
i know that's how it is on os x
js1
not "before"
i mean when i mount FAT32 HD files are not written before I umount ????/
Evolution
js1: they're written a piece at a time while the disk is there. not finalized until unmounted.
js1: windows does the same thing, but it's a bit less careful with your data.
js1
so its buffered ... ?
BlackHand
Daemoen: jpackage works without problem with the other alternatives repos
Evolution
Daemoen: yeah. jpackage is fine to use.
js1
well normally, on win32, if i see the green light off, it means it finished copy and i just unplug it
Evolution
js1: and that will eventually eat your data
js1
didnt happen yet :P
BlackHand
Daemoen: the only thing is the jpackage-utils that come with jpackage, i suggest that permit to update this package from jpackage and dont protect the jpackage-utils from centos
Tini
Hello. Evolution. :)
js1
but i'll try umount
Evolution
js1: it will. give it time. and use 'safely unmount device' on windows from now on
there's a reason it's there.
js1
I was so pissed today, i copied a file to a usb key, drive to a friend, to install something... to my concern... NOTHING ON IT! :S
Evolution
js1: because you got in the habit of doing it wrong.
js1
yup =รพ
seems so :S
Evolution
it's not your computer's fault you can't follow directions :-P
js1
well it's automount....
i tough...
[domon]
i think they did that on purpose, so that you are forced to use the unmount command
