adsss
z00dax i tried rpm -q --whatrequires -p file.rpm
z00dax
adsss: that makes no sense really
what are you trying to achieve
RadSurfer
WHERE do I find a mplayer-gui that is compatible with CentOS?
z00dax
RadSurfer: wiki.centos.org/Repositories
vamo
http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/RPMS/
RadSurfer
for crying out loud...
vamo
http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/
RadSurfer
its apparently already installed.
snuck it in disguised I guess
apparently CentOS bundles it together afterall
range
No.

RadSurfer
well it is here. and it does work.
I just never thought to just run it :)
So help me, if it also installed the codecs
range
No, the codecs aren't available from any repo as they may not be redistributed.
Meaning the "wincodecs". ffmpeg and libavcodec and others are available.
RadSurfer
plays divx
holy cow!
highly compressed divx... and its smooth on here!
I sure hope the next Centos isn't broken :-)
BlackHand
range: the win32codecs are available in the <WARNING><HIGH RISKEN><DANGER> ATrpms repository </DANGER></HIGH RISKEN></WARNING>
RadSurfer
think it could be dangerous ;)
miah
so_: rssh is good stuff
nayyares
hello guys
i hope hughesjr, still awaken :)
trend
what is a good light weight tool I can use to see how much bandwidth is being consumed on my box?
miah
ifconfig
netstat
lancelan
iptraf
trend
lancelan thanks!
lancelan
np
daMaestro
lancelan, iftop is also neat
LuvRedheads

z00dax
opensourcenut: ?
opensourcenut
z00dax: what?
z00dax
how are things
Niteryder
Any idea why my CentOS 4 server is doing this: ICMP time excd (56 bytes) from 192.168.1.1 to and external IP? The confusing part is that the 192 is not part of my network.
NthDegree
Niteryder, so it's not a gateway or router of any kind?
that is the default IP of a lot of routers
Niteryder
no network here has that subnet.
it seems like it originates on my box

lancelan
daMaestro, that may well be - but it isnt part of CentOS - and it isnt in pretty colours :)
daMaestro
lancelan, yeah.. iptraf is very useful and has tons of imformation. iftop is more just bitrate and ports
iptraf has more features afaik
also, i didn't know iftop is not in centos.. it must be in the fedora rebuilds?
lancelan
rpmforge has it
daMaestro
ah ok.
tech__
hello
Jan 7 01:01:53 localhost smartd[2991]: Device: /dev/sda, Temperature changed -2 Celsius to 30 Celsius since last report <--i got this in my /var/log/messages, what does this mean?
miah
uh
what do you think?
daMaestro
that means your device /dev/sda has changed from -2C to 30C
lol
miah
read + comprehend
try it.. its amazing
retrospek
dont suppose if anyone knows if the current firefox was built svg enabled for 4.4?
helpmee
does that mean my scsi is overheating?
miah
hrm, i would think so
helpmee
it's not scsi
miah
lets break this down so that a moron could understand it. your disks temperature *was* -2C the last time smartd checked. this time though, its 30C
is it SATA ?
helpmee
it's hdd but that type which is faster than ide
yes sata
miah
if you're in the IT field, i feel truely sorry for your coworkers, or employer
retrospek
mmm pebkac
helpmee
miah: thanks
oh btw i think i am and will always be an IT person in field of work
miah
retrospek: no idea irt svg
helpmee: then i feel sorry for the people that pay you
you know how light switches work?
helpmee
i was just trying to search any genius answer from this chnanel ;) it would be better to get an idea from lots of people than what i have in mind only
miah
that error message is kinda like that
retrospek
yeah, tree pixies live in the walls and make the juice flow
helpmee
that is how i am resourcefull enough
retrospek
of course we know how lights work
miah
so resourceful that you need a second opinion on a smartd warning about drive temperature?
retrospek
miah: yeah, trying to find the build info now :\
helpmee
oh by the way thanks for the insult. im not hurt anyways. i can accept an insult from a linux gurus
miah
great
that'll be 2.99 please drive up to the first window
helpmee
damn that pc of my client a branded acer cpu and now it's having a physical problem
miah
didnt acer go out of business like years ago?
retrospek
Syntax error.
helpmee
miah that was bought last year from our local computer shop
retrospek
...
so i have this pdp7 in the garage...
lancelan
maybe that -2 is the relative temperature ??
'changed -2 to 30' implies that
miah
/me feeds lancelan some lag juice
lancelan
and -2 would be a bit cold for a drive - unless it was in a freezer
helpmee
hmm
retrospek
could be the wrong attribute for the mfr
ie raw attribute vs normalized, blah
rnsi
miah: Acer is alive and well, love their servers.
retrospek
walked in too late to see the paste
helpmee
uscpi-unix is this supported by centos 4.4?
i tried yum search uscpi
no matches found
does that mean uscpi is possibly not supported because it is buggy and nobody develops it anymore
am i right?
NthDegree
helpmee, download and compile it?
lancelan
miah, in fact smartd does give a delta temperature - you are the one who a. is a moron and b. should read things properly
so lets stopinsulting folk in the channel shall we ??
helpmee
lancelan: thanks but it's ok for me. i can understand my friend
let them be :)
miah
lancelan: the point of this channel is to hurt and belittle people :P
retrospek
smartd can be relative, absolute, raw, normalized, scaled, or a number of things, so everyone is technically correct.
kapow
lancelan
retrospek, ok , but that smartd message is giving a delta value and final result
retrospek
like i said, i joined too late to see the original message :)
lancelan
ah -
retrospek
context is everything
lancelan
tech__ hello
tech__ Jan 7 01:01:53 localhost smartd[2991]: Device: /dev/sda, Temperature changed -2 Celsius to 30 Celsius since last report <--i got this in my /var/log/messages, what does this mean?
retrospek
does centos not maintain a build history anywhere?
lancelan
miah lets break this down so that a moron could understand it. your disks temperature *was* -2C the last time smartd checked. this time though, its 30C
retrospek
ah yeah, that would be relative then heh
lancelan
is that sufficient context ...
miah, no the point of this channel is to make me feel important
helpmee
omg
retrospek
hrm, ok, to hell with this, ill just rebuild firefox, meh
BlackHand
retrospek: see the changelogs ^_^ man rpm
miah
heh whatever
snowmoon
ok... that's weird
[root@localhost ~]# ifconfig
__tmp145181766 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:6F:19:67:6B
(Action) very sorry.... wring channel
helpmee
is anyone in here used qmail instead of postfix?
snowmoon
I have used qmail, but that was in the late 90's
SethW
Hello
NukePuppy
hi.
SethW
does anyone know how to resize a partition
cryptnix
gah ... i'm getting tired of downloading cent os server iso's and them fail ...
NukePuppy
hmm thats pretty odd to have em fail?
helpmee
make[3]:g++: command not found
i thought gcc is also that g++
what package should i install to have that g++?
yum install g++ ?
NthDegree: what is the name of that package of g++ ?
i tried yum search g++ it says no matches found
miah
gcc-g++
gcc is a c compiler, g++ is a c++ compiler
helpmee
make [3]: *** [crc32.o] Error 127
miah
that tells me nothing
helpmee
i thought crc32 is part of g++
yum search gcc-g++ says no matches found
miah
you may need to properly quote it
helpmee
ok trying yum install "gcc-g++"
cryptnix
NukePuppy: different burners, different disks, and different cd roms on installing it onto system ... it will accept other OS's no problem!
miah
cryptnix: have you bothered performing a md5sum on the iso's to verify that your iso's are not corrupt after download?
