scutato
something used 74 GB of bandwidth on my server yesterday, and my site's not even uploaded. anyone have any idea what to check? I'm at a loss :(
RadSurfer
yippee... I'm at the point "Reading Package Information" :)
Gulp! Formatting/partitioning now :)
I hope I picked what I'll need...
so far so good, graphical install working fine.,
sharpie
scutato, your logs?
when can we have more updates? I want updates!
GoDo
we want centos 5 beta 2 :P
pony
(Action) checks the magic release ball....... GoDo ..... CentOS 5 shall be released when it is ready. Beta news: http://www.karan.org/blog/index.php/2007/01/03/centos_5_first_install
GoDo
yeah yeah i know pony :)
RadSurfer
how many hours is this install going to take ;)
GoDo
2 or 3 days :)
adsss
i've openssl-0.9.7a-43.14.i686.rpm this rpm and an application want its devel rpm. but there isn't i686 of this rpm. there is i586 and i386. which one should i install?

miah
adsss: yum install openssl-devel
and be done with it
hoobastooba
I am getting an error when trying to install a program configure: error: *** termcap support not found. However yum search shows termcap and libtermcap installed and updated.
RadSurfer
hey! we're on disc #2
miah
what about termcap-devel?
RadSurfer: because you're a sucker and installing from cdrom?
RadSurfer
doesn't bother me
hoobastooba
checking
RadSurfer
and dvd iso's are touchy to d/l
turnpike420
RadSurfer: we're excited for you but the play by play isn't needed ... :) I'd look into NFS or HTTP install on a high speed network
miah
i did 6 server installs yesterday just using askmethod and installed over http.. each install took ~10 minutes
turnpike420
you can install a minimal server in a VM in about 10 mins
miah: :)
RadSurfer
sure it is... share the excitement makes everyone enjoy the news
miah
i could have prep'd kickstart images and probably halved that time for each server
turnpike420
um, no really
RadSurfer
I'll only scream when it scews up!
hoobastooba
libtermcap-devel was not installed... probably the issue... thank you
miah
if i had a proper pxe environment here i could have done them all at the same time and had it only take ~5 minutes =)
RadSurfer
because I'm perfect, doing everything right
turnpike420
miah: and having a local mirror for yum updates is a beautiful thing too
RadSurfer
the lan had better work!
miah
turnpike420: yep

hoobastooba
miah:that was the missing package... thank you. my install completed successfully
miah
sa thanks by donating to the centos project..
turnpike420: ya, i need to setup a local yum mirror.. i need to look into 'current' again for my RHEL boxes.. i doubt i'd be able to convince my boss to go rhn proxy or satelite server
just because their pricetags start at like 15k
turnpike420
we just have a local mirror setup for CentOS 4, love it
miah
right, i just need a dedicated server at work for 'util' like things
scutato
something's using gigs of bandwidth on my server (that I haven't uploaded a site on yet :P), anyone have suggestions on what to look for?
GoDo
scutato: logs
xerophyte
is there postfix rpm ??
scutato
GoDo: nothing's showing up anywhere :(
no one's successfully logged in, no FTP transfers have been logged, no mail's been sent
z00dax
scutato: iptables, lock everything off and set it to log all traffic
although if its gigs and gigs , the logs are going to get big pretty quick so make sure you keep an eye
LuvRedheads
uninstall cpanel ......
scutato
z00dax: that's the thing, it's only happened twice in two months
@_@
and both times on a single day
and the only ports I have opened in iptables are the ones I need
(http, https, smtp, ftp, ssh...etc)
smooge
scutato that doesnt mean much if you have an CGI application that allows shell access
scutato
I don't have anything uploaded at all
it's just kinda sat there for two months
(after I secured it as best I could anyway)
smooge
how are you measuring bandwidth usage then
scutato
it's on the datacenter's website
the logs on my server account for 0.03 mb of bandwidth
their logs account for 74 GB to/from my box :P
grrr frustrating
smooge
I would wonder about their accounting system.. how long did this occur, and is it 'possible' to have occurred. If you have only 10mbit link and it did 74 GB in an hour
iiro-
it's not possible :)
sharpie
the account is probably tied to the wrong IP/box
RadSurfer
time remaining is *broken*, but no problems yet
scutato
it wasn't an hour
it was a day :P
RadSurfer
its been 1:15 so far
scutato
74 GB in a day would be possible with a fast connection
RadSurfer
can't wait for it to boot!
scutato
sorry RadSurfer, I was talking about my box :">
RadSurfer
(Action) is excited about his 1st Centos
scutato
(Action) is having problems with his
(1st centos)
I'm hoping they just goofed
@_@
RadSurfer
whats going on for you?
scutato
I do have 2000 GB bandwidth, but 74 GB in a day is unreal
RadSurfer
I haven't been reading along, watching my install screen
scutato
then again, I guess I'd need to use over that to use my entire 2000 GB :P
wellll
I have a new box that I haven't uploaded anything to, and out of no where 74 GB of bandwidth were used just yesterday
RadSurfer
it has net access though... auto-updaters gone madd?
z00dax
74 gigs in a day is non trivial, you should ask the hosting company for details
RadSurfer
4 more minutes...
iiro-
there's a good program for lnx which I can recommend: http://humdi.net/vnstat/
for future.
tell's you the daily and monthly amounts
too bad that it's linux only, I've been missing it on my freebsd.
z00dax
iiro-: so you are one of the 5 people who still use freebsd ?
scutato
z00dax: that's what I'md oin'
I'm doin rather
iiro-
z00dax, I'm using FreeBSD, MacOSX, WinXP, RH EL... all on different purposes :)
and CentOS of course.
RadSurfer
post configuration, then reboot soon, right
so far Centos is staying with 800x600 video
Jesse-
whats not to like about freebsd
vonkleist
RadSurfer, did you run system-config-display after installation?
changed monitor and card type?
RadSurfer
rebooted fine. WHERE do I find how CD's are handled (like auto load etc?)
smooge
z00dax, I think there are 5 people still using NetBSD. FreeBSD has at least 20 people from the number of people coming here in the last week
iiro-
:D
z00dax
smooge: wow!
RadSurfer
Display seems just fine. Where is the CD/external drive configuration?
Preferences --> Removable Storage....
I'm having better luckwith this then I did with FC-6 (on this machine)
2.6.9.42.EL <-- whats the EL please?
smooge
Enterprise Linux?
RadSurfer
doh!
Could be
(Action) feels like a little boy again ;)
smooge
that was before the operation?
(Action) tries to fill in for the silent Evolution
merrin
I want to ask a question
Evolution
merrin: questions are $5 USD each
ikonia
** Warning the user "merrin" is a troll, banned from other Linux channels **
I've just followed him as he was banned from #ubuntu
merrin
don't bother about ikonia, he's mentally ill
RadSurfer
iz dat a nice theeng to say
Evolution
I'd suggest you leave your differences at the door, or you'll both get yourselves banned.
ikonia
merrin, prove me wrong, join #ubuntu, or are you banned.
Evolution: I'll remain quiet and allow my point to be proved
:)
(Action) zips it
merrin
I really like ikonia
he's nice
RadSurfer
sounds like an exotic island or something, seriously
I have a lan to get working
Evolution
back to topic discussion.
(Action) puts his topic nazi hat on.
hole
printf("Hello word !\n");
Evolution
hole: I'd tell you to #include aspell.h, but technically your code is spelled correctly :-P
hole
or just stdio.h no ?
Evolution
no clue. I left my C skills wherever I put my sobriety.
merrin
poor evolution
weird_guy
hole: if you meant something along the lines of "hello folks", you have forgotten a L ....
Evolution
weird_guy: was that not clear in my attempt at humor?
weird_guy
Evolution: I think his humour interpretation skills are in the same place as your sobriety ;)
Evolution
weird_guy: my new favorite -> http://www.fatbastardwine.com/fbwine.htm

sigwerk
(Action) raises his hand
