nayyares
hughesjr, you have some photo, i want to see you :)
hughesjr
nayyares: can't have a photo on the internet ... prevents all the ladies from concentrating :P
Evolution
hughesjr: why do you think nayyares wants to see you :-P
nayyares
Evolution, i want to see what sort of Animal he is ;) he is always there even when GOD is spleeping....!
boudiccas
lovely word that ... spleeping! :))))
puzzled
morning
nayyares
s/spleeping/sleeping
(Action) mother language is not english...!
boudiccas
i knew it was a typo, but the word was just so lovely and conjured up an image of 'split sleeping', like dozing for a few minutes and then waking with a start only to doze off again a few minutes later, and for the cycle to restart. I wasn't poking fun at you, just i liked the word :)
range
The hughesjr never sleeps.

Zathrus
range: he's too busy hacking boxes to sleep
nayyares
did any body met him ? i think we have to discover him?
(Action) thinking whether hughesjr is a Bot in #centos ?
boudiccas
nayyares; hughesjr is =not= a bot :)
hughesjr
nayyares: pony is a bot ... I am definately not :P
Evolution
he's a highly evolved artificial intelligence program written by range and z00dax as part of a graduate study program at UC berkeley
hughesjr
Evolution: hehehehe
nayyares
Evolution, :)
Zathrus
see? That's proof. No human would laugh at Evolution.
stuart
I've just installed CentOS for the first time on an AMD64 system. We have to use a proprietary app which requires 32bit libraries... is there any way to get this to work?
nayyares
(Action) searching for hughesjr personal page, want to know about him
longword
stu: Depends.
Zathrus
lookee, hughesjr has a new stalker.
longword
stu: Could be difficult but likely possible
stuart
(Actually, the installer binary unpacks a JRE, which is then tries to use to bootstrap the remainder of the install)
Fails with: ./MT1104_linux.bin: line 2471: /tmp/install.dir.31405/Linux/resource/jre/bin/java: Accessing a corrupted shared library
... when I symlink the correct libraries from /ilb64 to /lib
longword: I assumed ther might just be a package of 32lib compat libraries... is there not?
Evolution
stuart: there are compatibility libs that you can install to run x86 apps on x86_64 stuff
however some of them may conflict, and you have to be careful when mixing arch packages.
longword
stu: things like glibc.i386
Evolution
it can lead to some uh... *interesting* behavior
stuart
I just installed compat-glibc.i386 - but that doesn't install anything into /ilb
nayyares
(Action) rebuild 32bit lib on 64bit yesterday
stuart, i think you should get source rpm and rebuild it on your system
stuart
I'm used to Gentoo... I was hoping to avoid that sort of thing ;)
Ah - there's a glibc.i686...
That's looking more like it

range
stuart: Yes. And lots of other i386/i686 libs and applications in the repository.
stuart
Yeah - that works fine. Thanks! ;)

hey guys, does anyone know if /etc/localdomains affects anything other than exim, i want to remove couple domains from it that have web sites on the server but their email is hosted somewhere else
DT
hey guys good morning
i got a strange problem, i was installing qmail and now i cant ssh or even start samba
i have not restarted yet to see if that will fix it
Zathrus
qmail is not part of CentOS and is highly non-supported here
DT
ahh point taken
omfglolwtf
Hi, just curious. CentOS comes with yum already installed correct?
low
omfglolwtf: yep
omfglolwtf
low: Awesome. Is there lots of unsupported repositories?
low: so I can get w32codecs etc.. and stuff
low
don't really know, i use centos for servers, so multimedias codecs etc are not used here
range
<http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories>
omfglolwtf
When Installing rpm packages, it should be fine to just use redhat packages ?
longword
range: Have you got that on an F-key?
range
longword: Alias.
low
omfglolwtf: provided you use rhel 4 rpms it should be ok
omfglolwtf
Thank you, I'm using FC6 currently. I think I'll be switching to CentOS this weekend :)
low
i you need desktop use, you're better with fc6 imho
Dyson_
omfglolwtf: you could wait for the CentOS 5 beta to finish
low
Dyson_: good idea too
Dyson_
omfglolwtf: it should be quite similar to fc6
omfglolwtf
dyson: eta on that?
Dyson_
pony: whese is this centos beta?
pony
(Action) fidgets
low
pony: centos beta
Dyson_
omfglolwtf: RSN

Dyson_
omfglolwtf: in fact it will probably be available someday next week

Dyson_

i'm just part of the "guys who tell stuff about the distro on the channel"-team :)
low
Dyson_: do you know who i should poke to help for centos 5 testing ?
provided karan is not here
Dyson_

pony
(Action) checks the magic release ball....... low ..... CentOS 5 shall be released when it is ready. Beta news: http://www.karan.org/blog/index.php/2007/01/03/centos_5_first_install
lancelan

range
lancelan: Looks like he's getting in touch :)
lancelan
when it is released - download and test
there will be a space at bugs.centos.org for reporting any bugs
low
lancelan: ok. i'll try x86_64 as it's my main platform
lehel
anyone any ideas how can i block a cron job? [with mod_security?] executed with "php /path/to/file"
smbambling
hey guys
Has anyone had the experience of install Open Xchange on Centos 4.4 ?
\monster\
lehel: remove it from the cronfile?
crontab -e
and comment out the line
lehel
\monster\: it is not on that list, it isn't executed regurarly, just sometimes by some users,
can i just add the user in cron.deny ?
pauliukas
How can I install KDE or Gnome using yum?
range
Look at the "group" options in the yum manual page.
pauliukas
Alright great. Thanks.
znull
you update a dns record in named, whats the most efficient way to get the server to re-read the zone file?
\monster\
is there a util that will let me monitor bandwidth throughput on an interface in realtime, like "top"
via ssh
reklez
where's the repository?
range
iptraf
lehel
\monster\: iftop
range
rndc reload zone
<http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories>
In no particular order :)
znull
you want to mount an nfs mount, you want it to utilize tcp, soft locking and allow all users read/write access to the share and for arguments sake, lets say the mount is 10.11.12.13:/mymount, and the mountpount is /mynfsshare
any ideea?
\monster\
lehel: thnx
reklez
any way to browse files in the repository?
Zathrus
reklez: yes. man yum
devhen
yum list
yum list | grep base; yum list | grep extras ... and so on
Zathrus
well that's the silly/stupid way to do it.
\monster\
range: thanks :) looks cool and part of yum
mobius
devhen: seems to work fine for us idiots :)
err Zathrus
Zathrus
mobius: that doesn't make it the smart way to list packages by repo.
mobius
i have an app that i'm displaying remotely through X11. It runs fine on one Centos 4 server, but not another. nothing appears in the logs.. no error messages... how do i go about debugging this? binaries are identical.
Zathrus: didn't say it was, but it works.
devhen
Zathrus: what is the smart way
Zathrus
devhen: enable and disable repos.
devhen
ahh
Zathrus
which can be done from the command line, temporarily. No editing needed.
mobius
seems like more commands (and less efficient) to me..
sharpie
\monster\, there is also bwm-ng
lehel
i have any option to stop from a specific user to run "php /path/to/file" ?
znull
Will chattr -i work on a reiserfs filesystem?
Zathrus
mobius: add some large repos (like rpmforge), make yum reparse the database everytime you run it, and then get back to me on what's faster.
znull: reiserfs is not supported in CentOS
znull
Zathrus: ok in other distros then
Zathrus
go ask ##linux
mobius
Zathrus: not FASTER, less typing. i have a 3Ghz machine.. we just have a difference in perspective
Zathrus
mobius: and I have some concern for the upstream repos and not hitting them repeatedly for no purpose whatsoever.
mobius
doesn't it cache this.. it displays it in <0.2s for me
Zathrus
depends on how out-of-date the data is.
mobius
eh, one update is needed to make sure you are updated anyways
znull
in the dhcpd configuration, what would be the correct options to specify a pxefilename called "pxelinux.0", and to set up a 10 ip range for the 10.0.0.0 network, using 10.0.0.1 as the default router, and 4.2.2.2 as the default nameserver?
