on http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu/centos/4.4/isos/i386/ what is the difference between centos serverCD and centos ?
the serverCD is that a stripped down version of centos installation cd ?
orc_orc
arnnnn the 1 cd installer for the server cd is just that
arnnnn
orc_orc, oh ok
andresmujica
Hi, anyone knows about netvault replicator...
seems to be what i'm looking for.. but i've got some doubts about how to put cluster suite in the equation...
ed_mann
have a good night. I am going home. maybe i will get back on when i get to the night job.
lex
Heyas... has anyone gotten the latest mono to work on a 64 bit RHEL4
Oh
"strictly enforced"
I meant in centos
devhen
lex: no but AFAIK its possible
lex: these might work: http://www.go-mono.com/download-stable/fedora-4-x86_64/
the pkgs are for fc4 but will probably work on centos4/rhel4
range
devhen: Why should they? FC4 is much newer than CentOS4.
And there are rhel4 packages there.

devhen
range: no x86_64 pkgs on mono-project.com
for rhel4
only fc4 and fc5
range
Ah. Well. I don't think the FC4 ones will install
Evolution
they will with --force!
everything works better with --nodeps & --force!
alleycat
Evolution: if and only if that is preceded by "rm -fR / tmp"
devhen
as Evo emerges from under his bridge :D
alleycat
shouldn't we move the jokes to #centos-social ?
jahani
hi
how to install jre1.5 using yum?
alleycat
jahani: use the jpackage repo
Dyson_
alleycat: even with that you'll need one of these nosrc rpms
jahani
ok thank you
orc_orc
jahani: more lightweight install: http://www.trading-shim.org/faq/?java
alleycat
Dyson_: I know. but the instructions are on the web sire
web site
Dyson_
alleycat: yep
alleycat: I had a hard time downloading a jdk to a server with lynx...
alleycat
as a sidenote, a friend just compiled openoffice with gcj and claims that now it is much faster than with jdk
Dyson_
alleycat: so the issue is not building the java rpm :)
alleycat
Dyson_: I don;t follow you.. what was the problem ?
jahani
jpackage-utils.noarch 1.6.0-2jpp_3rh installed
but java not installed
ok orc_orc thx
Evolution
jahani: correct. and don't paste in here.
jahani
ok sorry
Dyson_
alleycat: you have to click 1000 times and fill in forms
alleycat: I almost went crazy doing so with lynx

alleycat
Dyson_: hmmm. AFAIK only one aknowledge was enough. but AFAIR they use javascript which indeed might make life difficult for lynx
orc_orc
there is one cooked page in the Sun process, but once it returns a DL URL, one can use wget to do the retrieval
Dyson_
orc_orc: didn't work for me, I don't know why..
orc_orc: however, I had to download a jdk from the archives
orc_orc
Dyson_: that is what my instructions link details as well
Dyson_
:)
orc_orc: doesn't matter anymore, I've got almost all java releases as jpackage rpms now
Evolution
(Action) adds some less friendly wording to the kernel instructions
snowmoon
I've poked around on the web and the #centos-ppc but no responce... is there non beta ppc support in centos 4?
orc_orc
snowmoon: insufficient demand and testing to take gold
snowmoon
orc_orc, any hope with cent5
orc_orc
snowmoon: testing candidates are planned -- ppc64 is likely -- ppc32 less so
snowmoon
orc_orc, that's fine ... it's for install on a pSeries ppc64
orc_orc
niche arches are just probably not viable as they are hard to stabilize and few get a reqard for much effort -- unless there is itch scratching ...
s//reward/
I spent a couple hours today on s390 and have done so for the last 6 weeks, but cannot get access to the needed hardware to test properly
snowmoon
*nod* .. we have gone off contract and the current install has fallen down ... a move to a semi-supported system would be better than what we have now
orc_orc
snowmoon: centos team will sell the contract
were you using ydl before?
snowmoon
SELS9
orc_orc
ahh
snowmoon
everything else on our network is CentOS ( except for a few Fedora desktops )
I'm going to give FC6 a whirl on these boxen ... not my first choice, but better than the alternatives
orc_orc
snowmoon: I take it you are unaware of the latest FC ... features ;0
snowmoon
orc_orc, besides the kernel brekage and snafu of an installer?
orc_orc
snowmoon: ;)
the updater implementation
snowmoon
yum_updatesd that doesn't actually update your system
rado1
has anyone ran a full clamscan on a box that uses vmware?
finding worms and trojans
for awhile now I have been noticing all my memory being used ...just about...whether I use 1G or 2G of ram
orc_orc
rado1: google: linux memory use
Dyson_
rado1: if there's free memory something is broken
snowmoon
rado1, total memory consuption is normal... worry when you start eating swap ( more than a few 100K )
rado1
tryin to put these 2 things together...I googled trojans and vmware and it's pretty mixed
Dyson_
snowmoon: not even that, worry when vmstat tells you there are swapin and swapout operations
snowmoon: I've got a box that always uses about 200 MB of swapspace
rado1
noone has ever scanned this?
orc_orc
rado1: this is not the vmware channel; why would we answer the question?
rado1
why?
seems like vmware was a pretty hot item on here...got me interested in it
orc_orc
rado1: elsewhere please
bish0p
radol: #vmware is a better place for vmware questions/discussion
rado1
All I wanted to know that if anyone running centos 4.4 was having problems w/this
orc_orc
rado1: you did not ask that
rado1
evidently not
ya I sure did!!!
orc???
nevermind!
orc_orc
19:03 rado1> has anyone ran a full clamscan on a box that uses vmware?
bish0p
rado1: try posing your question again if it wasn't a vmware question
orc_orc
that is a vmware question
rado1
you a hoot! bye
bish0p
btw: i use vmware lots and lots on my centos boxen. works great.. workstation & server
heh
orc_orc
bish0p: there is no percentage in talking with idiots, nor helping them sharpen their dull questions
bish0p
yeah, it happens sometimes.
but he did remind me i've got some questions about vmware
(Action) heads off to #vmware
doh, i keep forgetting. they won't answer my questions (not #vmware but the engineers)
Dyson_
(Action) thinks vmware + trojan only yields that much results on google because these kiddies install trojans with their keygens
bish0p
(Action) will wait for another week for a friend of his to get hired at vmware so he can have an inside track to the engineers
Alien_Freak
how do i change the ip permenantly on my eth0 interface?
Dyson_
Alien_Freak: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
Alien_Freak
thx
RadSurfer
pleas I want to know what I'm doing wrong with this statement please:

I want to see the output "9" expected, but its not working, any ideas? please
evilbulgarian
hi, what is the proper way to restart the gdm or kdm in redhat ?
cmang
howdy! sorry if this is a lame question, but why do I get this message when trying to install a package via yum? "Error: Could not find the GPG Key necessary to validate pkg" blah blah. "You may also check that you have the correct GPG keys installed"
or more specifically, how do I install the missing gpg keys (since I'm guessing that's what the issue is :)
it's a fresh cent 3.8-server i386 box.
joobie
Guys can someone give me a hand with sed / awk to grab the broadcast ip address in the output of http://pastebin.com/871707 ?
cmang
Okay, it was definitely a lame question. As described in the FAQ, I just had to run this: rpm --import http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-3
sorry if I wasted anyone's time. :)
jbt
joobie: does grep won't do?
joobie
jbt, if it can be done with one cmd.. i wanted to try avoid piping to another cmd
i was thinking a grep + cut combo, but wanted to avoid it
jbt
i see
joobie
awk '/inet[^0-9]/ { print $NF }'
got it
nm thanks jbt
jbt
how would i know who's mounting..an nfs exported filesystem?
NthDegree
(Action) can't wait for CentOS 5............. getting impatient :(
pony
NthDegree: CentOS 5 shall be released when it is ready; most likely within 2-3 weeks of the upstream vendor's final public release. Beta news: http://www.karan.org/blog/index.php/2007/01/03/centos_5_first_install
NthDegree
(Action) wants SELinux Policy Module features
xuser
From inside type in the server IP.
NetGangsta
who know for why http://www.rootkit.nl/ its down?

I'm trying to install the CPAN GD package and it is asking me what options libgd was built with. How can I find this out? Can I use YUM somehow to see what the config was for libgd?
khermans
does CentOS provide a HOWTO for building from Red Hat SRPMs ?
peerce
`man rpmbuild`
nayyares
morning
i am running a CLI version of a tool, using ssh session, now when i run the tool it ask me to set DISPLAY env? what value i should set?
peerce
nayyares: thats used for X sessions. restart the ssh session with the -x flag, and the X window should be tunneled to your local X server

to anyone who has setup ldap authentication, I have a test user in the openldap directory which I can see when i type getent passwd | grep testuser , but when I type id testuser I get a message back saying no such user. and therefore I am not able to log in. Any suggestions or even a HOWTO ?
so_
nsswitch.conf comes to mind, but I don't do ldap
pramz
yea I checked nsswitch.conf and it is set correctly hence I get the getent result correctly.
richard
http://www.grennan.com/ldap-HOWTO.html
haven't read it ...
pramz
checking
bish0p
pramz: you've run through system-config-authentication right?
richard
http://www.bind9.net/ldap
pramz
bish0p: yes I did.
so far I get a result back from getent passwd | grep testuser , testuser exists only in the directory and not in /etc/passwd
