Torsion
Hey. I just installed a new version of libgsf; how do I make sure the new one is up and running?
I'm trying an install of something else that requires v. 1.13 or greater; the old one was 1.10., and that's still what it's seeing even though I just (tried to?) installed 1.9
thinfu
hey guys, is there a program that comes with centos that tells me how much bandwidth i'm using?
Torsion
Um, 1.something
Waitasec
ACfromTX
thinfu: sounds like you're talking MRTG, which you can configure to record such (i think)....
NetGangsta
ayo
I need quicly to install yum someone got a fast way?
peerce
get the rpm, install it.
what flavor of centos doesn't have yum ?!?
[rhetorical question]
orc_orc
NetGangsta: sure -- use centos
Torsion
never mind
bye
NetGangsta
peerce the rpm is downloaded
but rpm dont work

peerce
huh?
what operating system are you on, anyways?
NetGangsta
CentOS
peerce
and you don't have yum and rpm doesn't work.
wtf is with that?!?
NetGangsta
error by me
removed
:\
peerce
clean install, sounds like the ssytem is trashed.
orc_orc
NetGangsta: please paste in chanel: rpm -q --qf '%{name}\t%{packager}\t%{buildhost}\t%{sigmd5}\n' centos-release
NetGangsta
-bash: rpm: command not found
orc_orc
enjoy reinstalling the box you have broken
NetGangsta
:\
peerce
try /bin/rpm ....
NetGangsta
nothing
Evolution
NetGangsta: get your rescue CD, or your install media.
NetGangsta
its a VPS :)
orc_orc
the truth finally emerges
Evolution
NetGangsta: then call them for support, as you've horked up the box.
or they have, one of the two...
there is nothing we can do to help you here.
NetGangsta
oke :)
sslider
hello
i have a question
what is the mane of the precess that runs SMTP?
Evolution
sslider: there are multiple. sendmail, postfix, and exim ship with centos.
your choice as to which one you use.
sslider
thk :)
and if lets say sendmail and postfix run at the same time is posible to create a confusion and smtp dont work?
orc_orc
sslider: not if you use the package manager

sslider
thk :)
Evolution
(Action) notices that sslider's keyboard appears to lack a,n, and s.
hahahaha mirc
thinfu
is it normal for a user that is connected to the server via vncserver to have 172 sockets? (as reported by netstat)
eschneider
Is it possible, if I may ask, to have my / partition consume another (to give / more space) without losing data on / ??
Evolution
eschneider: are you using lvm?
bish0p
eschneider you could perhaps move one of the various dirs in / to another partition
eschneider: du -sh /var /usr /home # see if one of those is a good candidate to move to another partition. unless you are using lvm like evolution mentioned.. in that case use the power of lvm
eschneider
bish0p: When the server was set up, the root directory was too small. I am avoiding a rebuild.
I'm not sure if lvm is set up
alleycat
eschneider: mount or lvdisplay will tell you if you are using lvm
do you see /dev/mapper in the output of mount ?
ericthecheat
h/o
Doesn't look like I am...
nope
. /mapper is not there
alleycat
too bad, would have been easier
bish0p
ericthecheat: not too bad to migrate something off /.. what do you *not* have on / ? (/home perhaps?)
alleycat
the simplest approach would be to move a directory (or more) from / to another partition
and either symlink it or mount --bind it
to the original place
bish0p
or just mount the partition as it
evilbulgarian
hi, what is the best way to resize and move ext3 partitions?
ericthecheat
I'm good guys...
you can help the bulgarian
Thx a lot :)
evilbulgarian
yeah what he said
bish0p
evilbulgarian: those are two seperate actions. check out resize2fs .. i recommend googling "resize ext3" and looking at some of the tutorials before going and breaking stuff
evilbulgarian
bish0p: well i tried that but basically i need to move some partitions inside an extended partition up so i can free up space at the end
alleycat
evilbulgarian: that is VERY tricky. in theory parted and resize2fs can help
but I would not do that on any of my systems
evilbulgarian
alleycat: yeah i cant get acronis disk director to recognize disk
SpAwN
where can i find a how to on adding repos...i seem to have very very limited packages
Evolution
SpAwN: on the wiki.
wiki.centos.org/Repositories
SpAwN
thanks :-)
bish0p
z00dax: you get a chance to look at getting svk for centos4?
Evolution
bish0p: are you using bi**hX?
z00dax
bish0p: not yet, no - its on my todo list
SpAwN
hmm turns out i already have repos enabled..but i can install nettop or jnettop....
says there not availible
evilbulgarian
hi, for some reason i have a newly formated ext3 partition and says that 16GB are used can someone shine some light is that how much it takes for journal?
peerce
whats 'it' thats saying 16GB are used??
evilbulgarian
peerce: acronis image tool
peerce
what does `df` say?
and, how big is this partition ?
evilbulgarian
peerce: 1.3 terrabytes
peerce
thats a rather large partition. ok, so its got a LOT of inode blocks reserved on it.
evilbulgarian
peerce: i think something is jaked up with the partitions
peerce: i mean 16GB
peerce
you said 16GB are 'used' and the partition is 1.3TB, which is 1300GB, correct ?
evilbulgarian
yes
peerce
`tune2fs -l /dev/XXXXX` ... study what all that says.
thats a bit over 1% reserved space, I believe?
baegle
I'm looking to install a bug tracking system, but bug zilla doesn't seem to be part of CentOS. Is there an "official/supported/accepted" bug tracking system in CentOS4?
bish0p
evilbulgarian: you really shouldn't be using ext3 for a partition that large.. you are goign to be a sad monkey the first time you're forced to fsck
Hydr0p0nX
oh yea
forced fscks are fun
peerce
baegle; I rather like Flyspray, which is apache/php/mysql based
its not packaged specifically for centos, but easy enough to get running
yoavz
hey all - i need help with determing the CPU temperature - i have lm_sensors installed but i have no idea about what's next and i need it pretty urgent.
baegle
peerce: why do you choose it over bugzilla?
peerce
simpler, cleaner, less crap.
bugzilla is bloatware
bish0p
yoavz: /etc/init.d/lm_sensors status
yoavz
it gives me nothing.
bish0p
yoavz: /etc/init.d/lm_sensors start
peerce
and... chkconfig lm_sensors on
[the last so it autostarts next time you reboot]
yoavz
ok - but still - it gives me nothing.
peerce
what kind of system is this?
yoavz
intel board, 1u server, p4 3.0ghz 2gb ddr2
bish0p
yoavz: perhaps you need to run through: sensors-detect
then restart lm_sensors and check the status
peerce
yoavz; that sounds like a desktop board more than a server. dell desktop boards don't tend to have lmsensors :-/ ... many actual server boards don't use lm_sensors, they have IMPI instead, which I've never figured out.
er, IPMI? something like that
yoavz
nothing - sensors-detect gives me nada.
peerce
what chipset on this intel board?
bish0p
yoavz: you're screwed.. (perhaps not, but beyhond this poing you're going to have to head off to their website and read their FAQ/docs)
peerce
http://www.lm-sensors.org
yoavz
i have some program that i've got with this crappy server.
peerce
what kind of server is this?
or what brand/model motherboard?
yoavz
i have no idea what's the board name.
i'll check it out
peerce
sensors-detect said NOTHING?
it should have printed a bunch of stuff.
yoavz
peerce it did - but all gave me failed.
peerce
no explanation?
for instance, I got this.... http://pastebin.ca/328767
oh another box, I got this.... http://pastebin.ca/328779
which, oh yeah, is a freekin' older DELL desktop, whcih doesn't HAVE any actual sensors
bernardl
peerce: are you using the latest version of lm_sensors?
well if it doesn't have sensors, then lm_sensors isn't going to help you :)
evilbulgarian
anyone have an idea why the system is unresponsive to writing or reading anything while a 1.3 Terrabyte partition is being formated with ext3?
danomac
hey all. having a bit of a problem with apache on centos 4.4 server. i have gotten apache to work, with the exception of having apache listen on several ports.
apache will bind to port 80 and 8080 successfully. however, i also need it to listen on 7000-7004, and it fails, stating permission denied.
i am apparently missing something here. and i'm not sure where to look.
Evolution
danomac: are you using selinux?
danomac
yes, i think i enabled it when it was installed
i disabled the firewall, and have no clue how to change it
new to centos, but not new to linux.
Evolution
selinux will keep apache from doing things it's not allowed to.
danomac
of course the next question would be... is there a way to bend selinux's rules.
Evolution
disable selinux with 'setenforce 0'
