OK. That didn't work but I think it is because of other problems I can easily fix.
Arrfab
ALVAN : with which user do you try to login in ssh ?
ALVAN
another user not root ..
moj0rising
You guys are awesome!! Dyson_, joobie, Arrfab, thanks so much for all your help!
ALVAN
Arrfab, i will try to comment out the pam_limits section int /etc/pam.d/system-auth
and /etc/pam.d/sshd
strange if i restart sshd works after a while
then it hangs again
jgalt123_
if i view the mysql query log i dont even see that pam makes a query

I'm new to networking but I'm attempting to build a gateway with two network cards. I don't see any lights on the eth1 on and my xp workstation (which it is plugged into) says netowork cable uplugged. Is there a way to make sure that there is power getting to the card?
jgalt123_
plug another card into the slot and see if the pci bus powers it?
Dyson_
pbjr: if you're connecting two pcs directly you'll probably have to use a cross-cable

pbjr
duh
thats probably what it is
jgalt123_
lol
i assumed a switch,, doh
Dyson_
pbjr: just put a switch or hub in the middle
jgalt123_: :)
jgalt123_
Shouldnt the cyrus-sasl package provide the /etc/sasldb2 file?
Dyson_
jgalt123_: no
jgalt123_
i dont see in any of the howtos or docs that people are creating the file themselves
Dyson_
jgalt123_: you ususall don't use it at all
jgalt123_
im not sure why it would complain that its not there then
Dyson_
jgalt123_: because you missed some part in the configuration
jgalt123_: however, I set up sasl quite a while ago, so I don't know where exactly this is configured
jgalt123_: i *think* there's a file somewhere telling sasl to use sasldb for this authentication where you probably want saslauthd or pam
jgalt123_
there is a /usr/lib/sasl2/smtpd.conf that i have set to pam
Dyson_
jgalt123_: as i said, i don't really remember...
jgalt123_: my last contact with this stuff is years ago
jgalt123_
lol kk :)
SexyKen
Guys...I have a .img file for like...floppy disk for drivers for a raid controller
but I dont have a floppy drive, is there anyway to make it work on a cd?
miah
do you want to just extract the contents to use on a already installed system?
peerce
these are drivers for RHEL?
jgalt123_
is it possible that the standard sasl is not compiled with pam?
bleve
jgalt123_: no.
jgalt123_: but it's using passwd/shadow by default.
jgalt123_
well i have it changed for pam-mysql and the query to use
bleve
jgalt123_: change MECH=pam into /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd to make it use pam.
jgalt123_
well the fields it needs

bleve
and restart saslauthd
jgalt123_
bleve: and that will only affect postfix ?
err sasl?
bleve
that will only affect sasl
stupid default is to use passwd/shadow
when all other system is using pam.
jgalt123_
bleve: hmm well i did that and restarted saslauthd and it still says:
warning: SASL authentication problem: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: No such file or directory
warning: SASL authentication problem: unknown password verifier
bleve
jgalt123_: then you didn't configure /usr/lib/sasl2/smtp.conf correctly.
jgalt123_
that is set to pam
lemme double checkl
bleve
it need to be set to saslauthd
jgalt123_
light bulb goes on >
;p
bleve
pwcheck_method: saslauthd
mech_list: plain login
that's working configuration.
but dir is /usr/lib64/sasl2 on my system.
jgalt123_
can i do mech_list: md5
bleve
no.
jgalt123_
kk
bleve
you can only do plain and login against crypted passwords.
and that is against pam.
but remember to make sure you can't authenticate without encryption.
smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous, noplaintext
smtpd_sasl_tls_security_options = noanomymous
and I have smtp_sasl_security_options = $smtpd_sasl_security_options
jgalt123_
so if a user on something like outlook that has no tls option cant connect?
bleve
and smtp_sasl_tls_security_options = $smtpd_sasl_tls_security_options
outlook can do tls on port 25
but it can't do tls on other ports.
jgalt123_
oh i didnt see a setting for it. just ssl
bleve
jgalt123_: and you can have submission type listener at smtps port with tls_wrapper_mode=yes
outlook can work with that while thunderbird and other working mail clients can use submission or smtp port.
jgalt123_
ah ok i think i get that
bleve
secure email with postfix part 1 :-)
jgalt123_
:)
I have to admit im kinda starting to realy like postfix
even though the whole tls/certs/sasl working with iut is daunting to me
bleve
jgalt123_: I switched from sendmail to postfix around 1998 and I have liked it since.
jgalt123_
lol nice
in 1998 if i found the power button i was doin alright
i think that the encryption in my database and the encryption pam is wanting are not jiving
bleve
sorry. can't help with that.
need to go sleeping, it's already 1 at night.
jgalt123_
wow
where are ya?
i really appreciate the help,, thanks a bunch
:)
RandomNick14
any one know where can i find a bit torrent source for 4.4-server iso ?
peerce
isn't the .torrent file on the mirrors ?
RandomNick14
nope that one is missing the .torrent
hughesjr
hmmm
(looking)
peerce
yah, appears to be AWOL, http://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/4.4/isos/i386/
hughesjr
hmmm
looks like we didn't make one :(
RandomNick14: you can get the ISO from any of the public mirrors though
(for example ... the link that peerce gave has it there :P)
RandomNick14
yeah i'm getting it down but it's really slow .. my ISPs fscked up with latency am getting 10-15kbps on a 2mbps line
have over 1 second ping times to most sites on DSL .. my GPRS phone has better latency :-(
hughesjr
RandomNick14: I could generate a BT, but there would not be many seeds for a couple days
peerce
increase the RTS setting in your tcp/ip, that can help on high latency
RandomNick14
it'll be down before that with my download :-)
peerce that's in /proc ipv4 ?
peerce
RMEM? grrr. i forget what its called, i haven't had to tweak this in a long time
RandomNick14
ok that exists.. will try tweaking it
peerce
carefully.
later model kernels have autotuning, my advise may be moot
http://www-didc.lbl.gov/TCP-tuning/linux.html
pbjr
i'm trying to add a startup script with chkconfig and I get error: service gateway does not support chkconfig - ?
peerce
then you need to adda line to the /etc/init.d/gateway file
something like, # chkconfig: - 60 20
where 60 is the start sequence number, and 20 is the stop sequence number
look at a few existing init.d/* files to see how it goes
pbjr
i copied a comment line from one of them
joobie
guys anyone got a good idea for a slogan for an IT Support & Consulting company?
range
"You break it. I'll ask in #centos if anyone knows how to fix it."
joobie
ahahah
peerce
AHAHAHAAHAHAAAHA
business plans by IRC.
joobie
need something a little more serious:P
peerce
"Have Cable, Will Pull"
range
"Have company. Seek submission."
joobie
heh
peerce
"Will Code for Fees"

hello... how can I keep my hostname up across reboots? I mean... when I reboot I always have to do hostname -F /etc/hostname (which just contains my fqdn). My /etc/hosts file has 127.0.0.1 localhost, <real ip> fqdn
RandomNick14
misc-- change it in /etc/sysconfig/network
misc--
RandomNick14: ahh ok... the HOSTNAME= is the fqdn I take it...
RandomNick14
yup
misc--
cool thanks
RandomNick14

Evolution: must you do that in such a public place?
Chaot_s
Hello All, zould someone help me with the installation of a Tekram SCSI card during setup of centos?
Evolution
Chaot_s: do you have a driver disk from the mfr, or know which driver it's supposed to use?
Chaot_s
i dont have a driver disk, i found a website which has a driver for the card
peerce
which scsi chip does that card use ?
Chaot_s
as far as i could find out it is a AM79C974 based adaptor
peerce
the tekram 390 cards are LSI logic, centos should support them.
what model tekram?
Chaot_s
it is a DC-390/t
the only site i could find, was http://www.garloff.de/kurt/linux/dc390/index.html
peerce
um, they are all DC-390U??/something.
never heard of a DC-390/t
Chaot_s
it seems to exist :-D the card bios tells it is a "dc-390(T)" and the website i typed above mentions the card.
peerce
does it look like one of these, http://www.tekram.com/product2/product_list.asp?catalog_id=8 ?
Chaot_s
there is also a tar.gz file, which contains some driver file's.
the card looks different from those cards peerce
it has the length of a pci slot and the height of a old PCI vga card
peerce
well, you'd need drivers specific for RHEL4, or you'll be compiling your own from source
