orc_orc: the only productive difference I can see is that you're populating /etc/shadow and /etc/passwd and doing 'mkdir var/lock/rpm'.
which would be created by the rpm package
or, was on centos 4.3 anyway.
it isn't on fc5's. for some reason. that's the problem.
Adylas
Hello ! I m looking for mod_throttle in Centos .. Or something that remplace it ! Thanks !
Evolution
Adylas: mod_throttle is apache 1.x only I think
mod_bandwidth should be apache 2.x
Adylas
Ha yes thanks !
I dont find mod_bandwidth rpm ... It is supposly include ?
It was here with centos 2 ... I got 4.3 ((
Evolution
no, it's not built in rpm format yet.
Adylas
Hmm thats a problem (((
Do you know an other way to do ?
Evolution
there are no such modules by default in centos 4.
miah
might be in rpmforge or something
for apache2, you need mod_cband
http://cband.linux.pl/

Now this is an unexpected error: Transaction Check Error: file /usr/share/man/man1/asn1parse.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-0.9.7a-43.10 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.7a-43.10

donavan
not really cannonball
it is a known bug -- let me find the temporary work around
cannonball
Had to uninstall openssl so that cyrus-sasl could reinstall it. I'm curious why you say it's not weird though.
donavan
its actually a multiarch issue is all, small bug in in the .spec file
cannonball
Ah, ok. Yeah, this is an x86_64 box. That does make sense then.
donavan
cannonball (as root): wget http://mirror.centos.org/centos-4/4.4/os/x86_64/CentOS/RPMS/openssl-0.9.7a-43.10.i686.rpm; rpm -Uvh --nodocs openssl-0.9.7a-43.10.i686.rpm
_then_ do whatever you were trying to do before
cannonball
No worries, taken care of, and thanks lots.

I have centos4 upgrading a previous RH8 server that is used for samba file shares, now the win98 clients only see jibberish on the samba server when using programs like signlab
I think this has something to do w/ the CentOS4 machine using UTF-8 character encoding,
this server only exists to run samba, can I change the system charset from UTF-8?
orc_orc
dtm: I had to go into a meeting -- the script solves certain completeness issues in a more general fashion -- relying on yum to solve the minimal install is not doable, with certain tsort issues which appear -- It may be done at the end.
quellhorst
i want mrtg style graphs for my server bandwidth usage... what should i install?
cannonball
Are you implying that you don't want mrtg?
RAK0
Hello?
Forgive my offtopic question: Frontpage extensions
Has anyone any experience getting them working in CentOS 4, OR RHEL 4?
I saw one guy post that it could not be done.
Evolution
RAK0: they are no longer available for download
they're also quite old.
.net/mono is about the best you can do these days
RAK0
what is .net/mono?
miah
(Action) blows milk through nose
Evolution
RAK0: http://www.google.com/search?q=.net+mono&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
RAK0
sorry miah, i know this is a sickening subject
Evolution: do you know if a Frontpage client can actually publish their site using .net/mono?
miah
frontpage isn't even maintained anymore
RAK0
I know but some users seem to "need" it, and then whenever they do an interesting site it bites them!
Evolution
RAK0: no. frontpage extensions are much different from .net and mono
RAK0: you should inform your users who *need* it that security is a concept they should become familiar with
if they insist on using frontpage, they don't belong anywhere near a computer
joe
Evolution: Amen!

miah
i've yet to see a 'interesting site' built with 'frontpage extensions'
dtm
orc_orc: i'm not sure what tsort is. so are you saying that even though my script installed the same packages, it caused rpm to miss something ?
Evolution
miah: well, if you define 'interesting site' as 'reminds you of the internet from 1995'
then it might be accurate.
LuvRedheads
what back before html had color ...
Evolution
back when the <blink> tag was cool
LuvRedheads
heh.. so sad I remeber that...
RAK0
hehe, thanks guys, it makes me all warm inside, I'm going to cram these extensions somewhere and email my users a giant hug or something that should replace them!
BTW - CentOS ROCKS!!!
stephanstephan
Hi, is there a page on the website where I can see if the kernel I have is the latest ok version? I wasn't able to find one. I'm running 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL (CentOS 4.4)
Pretor1ab
hello again all
stephanstephan
Hello
Pretor1ab
I want to stream video content for my websites
i have used Darwin Streaming Server but wondered if there is a product that is in anyway linked to CentOS
donavan
your kernel is out of date
stephanstephan
I thought so :-( , thanks donovan
donavan
the announce ML list should be used to keep up to date on the latest releases
stephanstephan
I'll look for it
In the past, I'm pretty sure doing "yum upgrade" has updated my kernel before. Is there something that might be stopping it this time? I'm not excluding anything in yum.conf
(Action) has subscribed to the announce list. Should have a while back really I suppose
donavan
stephanstephan: what is the output of "uname -a" on your box?
stephanstephan
Linux server30080.uk2net.com 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL #1 Fri Jul 7 19:24:57 CDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
donavan
stephanstephan: put the output of "yum -d 6 update kernel" in the pastebin in the /topic
stephanstephan
oops, sorry
oh wait, yeah I get it.
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/tQ7nHR51.html
Evolution
stephanstephan: when was the last time you rebooted?
stephanstephan
donavan
stephanstephan: what is output from rpm -q kernel ?
ohhh Evolution found it :)
Evolution
:-P
stephanstephan
I'll just paste, it's 3 lines. Hope that's ok
donavan
no
Evolution
I hinted at it.... :-P
stephanstephan: you see -42.0.2 in there yes?
donavan
you can paste them all on one line
stephanstephan
ok, kernel-2.6.9-22.EL * kernel-2.6.9-34.0.2.EL * kernel-2.6.9-42.0.2.EL
Evolution
stephanstephan: you updated to 4.4 but never rebooted to the new kernel
stephanstephan
ah, is it selecting the wrong kernel at boot maybe?
lol, I feel like an idiot!
Evolution
possibly via autoupdate
donavan
no, you haven't rebooted to get the newst kernel
stephanstephan
haha, I'm so sorry guys for wasting your time! I'll reboot it now
Evolution
:-P
donavan
there's a donate button at www.centos.org, you should find it stephanstephan
stephanstephan
ashamed.... Thanks for your help :-)
LuvRedheads
just click on the donate button on the website to redem yourself
Evolution
hehehehe
stephanstephan
lol, will do
Great, it's showing up with the right kernel and I've donated + subscribed to the announcements. That should be the server happy for a while
Thanks again, I'm off to bed. Seeya later

salsauthd is dying on me every once in a while. where would it be logging itself?
cannonball
devhen_: how is it dying? It has been pretty stable for me so far on our SMTP Auth boxen.
devhen_
cannonball: nevermind i changed my default init to 3 and it wasn't set to automatically start
cannonball

grub give me error 17
and I boot from SystemRestoreCD and "mount /dev/hda6 /mnt/test" and I get must specify fs type
I do "mount -t ext3 /dev/hda6 /mnt/test" and I get "wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda6"
"fdisk -l /dev/hda" shows hda6 to be type 83 Linux
however qtparted shows hda6 to be partition type unknown, it was my root
miah
maybe your drive is unhappy
Evolution
guest_: you've made your hard drive exceptionally angry.
guest_
Evolution: you know.. i may not want to think that ;)
Evolution
guest_: I'd whisper sweet nothings in fsck's ear, and buy your hard drive some smartctl checks.
guest_
Evolution: here is what happened.. I hibernated linux, then started booting and missed my grub menu to select winxp and just did a CTR+ALT+DEL grub came up fine, I selected winxp answered my clients question then shutdown winxp and now I get a grub error 17 on reboot, no grub menu
Evolution
*cough*
yes. you've effectively made your computer mad at you
guest_
yep..
donavan
holy sh*t, no up2date in RHEL5
Crema10
so whats there instead of up2date?
miah
yum?
where are you reading this?
donavan
yum

Crema10

donavan

miah: looking at the RHEL5b1 manifest
miah

Evolution: I run fsck /dev/hda6 and I get right-away "Superblock has bad ext3 journal (inode 984) Celar<y>?"
s/Celar/Clear/
Evolution
guest_: are you feeling the anger yet?
craigbass1976
Man, anyone know why cent would all of a sudden get wicked slow? Boot taked forever, and now I'm trying to launch oocalc and I'm going bald while I wait. What generally happens when a script kiddie wins and hacks into your box?
