i using the automatic partitioning tool reccomended? It seems to just make one big drive called an LVM
i've got an 18gig drive that i plan to use for a firewall (so i want a good amount of logging room). How does the following sound for partitions, 1gig /swap, 100mb /boot, 6gig /, ~theRest /var
euclid
fuffal0: I would probably break out 1GB for /tmp, but otherwise sounds good
jig-saw
this is a stupid question but I'll ask it... how do I create a new user in Linux and his /home/userName/ folder?
Kevin
Hey all, trying to setup my CentOS box as a DNS server - hit a snag right when I thought I was done - am able to dig / ping without using IP address from the DNS Server box itself, but can't get it to work from other boxes (on the same network)
any ideas?
sharpie
is there any firewall between you new DNS server and the other boxes? any hosts.deny stuff?
Kevin
it's all on my internal network
so firewall shouldn't play an issue
I followed this very useful tutorial: http://www.brennan.id.au/08-Domain_Name_System_BIND.html
passed all of the tests....
sharpie
can you dig from the other boxes? dig name.something @ip.add.res.s

Kevin
nope
that's the problem...
sharpie
might be an acl in the bind conf
can you paste your bind conf somewhere?
Kevin
ya, sure - where to?
sharpie
pastebin.ca I think works
Kevin
ok, one sec - getting it in
named.conf the most relevant?
range
Keep it to one channel, please ...
mmcgrath
yeah one channel

...did centos give up on the server edition?
or are there main package options on this release?
orc_orc
Iam8up: centos 'gives up' nothing ;) want to pay to expedite it?
Iam8up
...did centos stop productino on the server edition?

orc_orc
Iam8up: want to pay to expedite it?
Iam8up
how much?
orc_orc
Iam8up: say we had been offered $8 per, for a 10k unit sale -- $80k will put you in front of that
Iam8up
say again?
orc_orc
$80k to get priority in the queue
jig-saw
a tutorial I read says I gotta add "the following wrapper script to app X" but how I do that actually?
Evolution
orc_orc: I really wish you'd stop quoting my employer's queue price in public.
did you forget about the NDA you signed?
KT
huh?
Evolution
there was only 1 3 syllable word in that sentence. how is it that you are confused?
KT
I fail to see
1. how a NDA applies
2. what he is talking about
Evolution
if you understood how the NDA applied, you'd either have signed it, or you'd be in the midst of litigation :-P
KT
so I don't think he is violating anything
Evolution
good thing it doesn't matter what you think then.
KT
likewise
ass
Evolution
yes. yes I am.

hi, i'm trying to run an Xvnc server running gdm on centos 4.3. gdm will not start and the error in the log is "Unrecognized Option: vt8", so it looks like *something* is trying to tell the X server to run on tty8, but Xvnc doesn't support this option. i've grepped through /etc and googled my face off. does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
KT
aye
is it... 'vt8' or 'vty8'
bhearsum
'vt8'
Unrecognized option: vt8
KT
did you install anything like XGL?
bhearsum
absolutely not
KT
look around gdm.conf? [servers] section
bhearsum
yep, the one that's being run has a command of 'Xvnc -audit 0'
/usr/bin/Xvnc actually
KT
hrmmm
never run it with Xvnc before... that'll explain it every time though
bhearsum
i did a complete grep of all of /etc for it
puzzled
evening
Iam8up
just curious - what is the desktop preference of those who are currently active (and why)?
Evolution

Zarg
No filesystems with quota detected.
Evolution

Evolution
