err ever
Evolution
no, I have a social life.
HRDaves
ahh so you know what it is
hehe
PolishOX
wow = whip em out wednesday

reinstalling centos 4.3 D
ckoehler
what do I need to do to make route settings stick through reboots?
if I route add default gw and so on, it doesn't stick when I reboot
do I need to put it in one of the scripts in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts?
HRDaves
edit /etc/sysconfig/network and add a GATEWAY=x.x.x.x
ckoehler
thank you very much
e\ectro_
is anyone using winbind for SSO with Windows AD?
I have got it working to where it logs in and creates the home dir, but it then closes the connection. I was previously getting errors about pam not liking uid > 100, but I commented that out. I can no longer find any more output regarding why my connection is being closed. Anyone have this problem before?

ckoehler
HRDaves, that didn't seem to work
I am loading the xen kernel
HRDaves
route -n doesnt show any default routes?
ckoehler
before that, it worked
no
Zerberus
ckoehler: be sure GATEWAY is only set in /etc/sysconfig/network and in non ifcfg-<device> config file
ckoehler
not in ifcfg-eth0 and eth1?
Zerberus
yes
there can be only 1 default route
ckoehler
ok
there were gateway enries in both
same IP
Zerberus
if you need device specific routes besides a generic route then you can create /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/route-<interface-name>
ckoehler
but I deleted both
HRDaves
good catch, Zerb
ckoehler
okay, rebooting now, let's see if that works
thanks for the help
I'd be really lost
Zerberus
ckoehler: rebooting not necessary - service network restart
ckoehler
well, I did that before and it worked, and got lost after reboot
since I am borrowing kvm, I want to make sure it works after reboot
I know I can do that, too, though
hmm still get network unreachable
there are three entries in the route table
2 different dest ips, gateway on all 0.0.0.0
Zerberus
for pasting: http://www.rafb.net/paste/
ckoehler
I am on a kvm, don;t know how to paste it
hang on
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/BZCGSg63.html
the last two entries were added manually
Zerberus
hm
content of ifcfg-eth0 and ifcfg-eth1 and /etc/sysconfig/network?
ckoehler
sec
orc_orc
ckoehler: /sbin/route del command can purge them if you know what to do -- alternatively, just reboot and get it over
PolishOX
how many of you use linux for hobby vs necessity?
ckoehler
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/f628vi57.html
orc_orc, sorry I don't understand what you mean

devhen
PolishOX: both ;)
orc_orc
you indicae the route table is messed up -- pastebin: netstat -rn , or jsut reboot to clear the manually added routing entries which are affecting your connectivity on that unit
ckoehler
oh
well it's not manually added ones that mess it up
I get the first three entries after every reboot
and then add the last two via kvm so I can at least connect to it via ssh
or get any network up for that matter
orc_orc
those are on the same network logical segment; it cannot decide which interface to put content out of -- change one
ckoehler
one of the first 3?
orc_orc
make line 12: 10.0.0.1
and then the route will be thru eth0 with a GW of 64.182.165.1
PEBKAM
ubijtsa
M ?
orc_orc
ubijtsa: monitor
ubijtsa
I thought it might be, but that doesn't make sense :)
orc_orc
whatever that acronym is -- it is pure user understanding error
ckoehler
orc_orc, they are different though....
eth0 and eth1, one ends in .190 and the other in 191
orc_orc
they are on the same logical network segment
ckoehler
okay and that messes stuff up huh
dennisharrison
real quick
ubijtsa
ah - PEBKAC
orc_orc
dennisharrison: this is not spoon feed central for driveby's
dennisharrison
daemontools on centos
orc_orc
dennisharrison: ask DJB
dennisharrison
no I meant I had a small quesiton ;p
orc_orc
and you got a small answer - we dont ship it
dennisharrison
whats prefered method in centos ?
just curious .. maybe I am missing a killer app eh?
orc_orc
dennisharrison: ask DJB - se dont ship nor support it in this channel
dennisharrison
I mean for service management
back off a little bit man
turn the jets down ;p
orc_orc
dennisharrison: I know exactly what it is and how it is used -- it is not part of centos
dennisharrison
and what is thats similar that is supported?
anything?
orc_orc
dennisharrison: doco is at: http://www.centos.org/docs/
no driveby support here
dan__t
For risk of being scolded, I don't suppose anyone has any dirt on Gnome 4.16 under 4.4, eh?
:)
dennisharrison
orc_orc, I help people when I can ... and I don't have a bad attitude when I can't specifically answer someones question
and as far as driveby support
ckoehler
orc_orc, do I still need to delete the route table first? I changed what you said, and it still doesn't work
orc_orc
ahhh -- that felt better
ckoehler: /sbin/route del command _can_ purge the bad routes, if you know what to do -- alternatively, just reboot and get it over to clear the route table
ckoehler
ok I rebooted, but nothing
let me paste route -n
orc_orc
ckoehler: no please -- do: netstat -rn
ckoehler
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/23Ugif88.html
alright
that's what I get right after reboot
orc_orc
did you remove that default route from: /etc/sysconfig/network ?
ckoehler
the gateway?
orc_orc
yes
ckoehler
nope, still there
PolishOX
if i have to pick a generic laptop display panel
and my res is 1280x800 which should i pick?
1280x1024 or 1024x768
orc_orc
ckoehler: in /usr/share/doc/initscripts-7.93.25.EL, in file sysconfig.txt if you insist on manuyually configging
or use the 'netconfig' tool as root -- it will edit eth0
s fine so put eth1 at the 10.x.x.x address instead
PolishOX: go wild - experiment
PolishOX
lol
im tired of doing that
i do that enough wth osx86 project
i chose: 1024x768
orc_orc
great choice: and we are tired of unresearched questions -- what does the doco at http://www.centos.org/docs/4/ say about system-config-display -- you may always reconfig if you dont like the results
ckoehler
orc_orc, is that different from editing ifcfg-eth0?
ubijtsa
orc_orc: you work in tech support somewhere? :)
orc_orc
ubijtsa: yes ; ckoehler yes
ckoehler: lettig netconfig set up eth0 will get it and the default right; then once it is working add eth1
ubijtsa: I run tech support teams
ubijtsa
orc_orc: nice. :)
orc_orc
I thot force 9 was in navaronne
ubijtsa
(Action) wonders if "netconfig -d eth1" would work...
orc_orc: it's in UK.. :)
orc_orc
ubijtsa: ubijtsa no telling: man netconfig // No manual entry for netconfig
d*mn lazy RHatters
ckoehler
orc_orc, I don't get it....
nothing seems to have changed
netstat -rn still shows the same
and I have to manually add the default gw
ubijtsa
orc_orc: heh.. want me to ping the maintainer and see if he can add a man page? :)
orc_orc
ckoehler: a reboot did not pick up a default route? -- please pastebin: netstat -rn ; ifconfig etho ; ifconfig eth1 ; cat /etc/sysconfig/network ; cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 ; cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1
donavan
I thought those curses packages were to die a slow miserable death and RH's cool gui tools were to take over?
s/gui/x-gui/
Pretor1ab
hello all
easy one for you experts
ckoehler
http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/nZjUvy39.html
Pretor1ab
how can i pass a value to a command
ckoehler
it did add the gateway back to ifcfg-eth0
orc_orc
ubijtsa feel free -- there are about 12000 more needed after that -- pump was a RH creation; debian has the right idea about having at least a stub man page, here
donavan
(Action) sends orc_orc to the social channel to answer my question
ubijtsa
donavan: the curses tools isn't going away in a hurry, too damn useful
orc_orc
Pretor1ab: back to leach again?
ckoehler
hang on
