hello...when collecting snmp info from cacti from my centos boxes..I show 3 times the number of users actually on the box then what top shows...any idea on what may be the issue or needs to be fixed??
Evolution
sky12345: uname -a ?
sky12345

smp kernel ...
something to do with symmetic multiprocessing maybe??
Evolution
no.
usually this is caused by custom kernel.

sky12345
ahhhh. okay..
Evolution
but, are you sure it's showing 3x the users, or is it showing them over a time, and you're reading it wrong?
3 users over 1-5-15 minute interval, layered?
er s/3/3x/
sky12345
nope...I just pretty much kicked up on the cacti machine...and localhost info is correct. When connected over a 5 minute period....cacti is able to pull the system info almost immediately and show number of users...in this case it shows 3 times as many.

I am trying to pxe boot a 2.6.9-11.EL kernel; however, my network card is not supported. I am thus trying to build a custom initrd with the necessary modules (bnx2.ko) however I do not know where I can find this. I was able to locate bnx2.c using google, but if this is helpful for me, I dont know how to use it. Does anyone know where I can find bnx2.ko, or how I can build one? The machine I want to use this for is not up, or I assume I could fin

Hello ! I got a notebook (Dell D820) that have the control key acting weird.. It just write weird character. I did something wrong ? I tryed to change the keyboard layout .. But even in pure console the bug is there. Thanks.
philwyett
Adylas, You maybe better sending this one to the list with all relevant info i.e. Language, Window Manager and settings therein; and the keyboard sections of your xorg.conf.
Stormx2
Hey everyone. Im trying to admin a remote centos server with SSH. I'm installing unrealircd, an IRC server. I'm installing it as a user, but I do have root to the server. When I try to configure, I get: configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables. I can compile fine as root, but I've been instructed not too. My guess is its a security measure. Any way to disable it?
Evolution
Stormx2: that's usually caused by not having gcc installed.
philwyett
Adylas, And output of: cat /etc/sysconfig/keyboard
orc_orc
cnStormx2 nope -- there is no C compiler inetalled -- please type: uname -a and paste that one line here so we may further diagnose
Stormx2
Evolution: It is installed, it is under /usr/bin
Linux serv.anet-hosting.com 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL #1 Fri Jul 7 19:24:57 CDT 2006 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux
orc_orc
Stormx2: do you need a C or a C++ compiler for that source?
Evolution
Stormx2: if it builds as root, but not as a normal user, then you've either done something AMAZINGLY screwed up to the permissions, or the code is very sh*tty.
Stormx2
Evolution: Oh dear...
Evolution: Well its the configuring not the compiling bit really.
Evolution
Stormx2: explain.

orc_orc
Stormx2: autotools check compilers ...
as to non root building, see: http://www.rpm.org/hintskinks/buildtree/
Stormx2
Ah sorry... Hold on i'll run autotools
orc_orc
to install compilers, run: yum -y install gcc gcc-c++
Stormx2: the autorools are what you are runnign when you run: ./configure
Stormx2: are you _sure_ you want to run a warez site?
Evolution
hahahaha
Stormx2
Its not a warez site?
LuvRedheads
hmmmm
orc_orc
Stormx2: it will be
Evolution
Stormx2: not yet, but it soon will be.
Stormx2
XD~~
hahaha.
well ;-)
I "yumed" those packages as root, they are installed.
Evolution
orc_orc: more likely he'll just allow the box to bend over, spread its cheeks and belch forth a torrent of spam
orc_orc
Stormx2: what we are saying is -- securing ircd's is tricky -- compiling is less trcky -- it seems unlikely that you will avoid the traps
Stormx2
True.
But I want to give it a go.
I had it running last night
but as root.
orc_orc
Stormx2: now: as to non root building, see: http://www.rpm.org/hintskinks/buildtree/ and read about non root building
Stormx2
OK.
Evolution
I wanted to be a doctor when I was a kid...

maybe I should give surgery a go, just to see how it works out

Stormx2
Are 3 lines of text OK to paste here?
orc_orc
Stormx2: only if you wish to stop talking with us: use http://pastebin.com or http://pastebin.ca
Evolution
orc_orc: is pasting all it takes?
(Action) wonders why he hasn't done it sooner
LuvRedheads
where is that darn pony?
orc_orc
LuvRedheads: it is not just for dinner anymore
LuvRedheads: it is the other, other red meat
Stormx2

What is the difference between kernel-unsupported and kernel-plus in centosplus. The docs go over unsupported, but not the 'plus' kernel.
range

Stormx2
orc_orc: (in the pastebin)
evilrabbit
hehe
orc_orc
Stormx2: never used a pastebin before, ehh?
range
rsimpkins: The unsupported kernels have turned to plus kernels ...
orc_orc
Stormx2: you have to tell us _which_ pastebin URL to look at
rsimpkins
range: So plus is the new unsupported?
Evolution
rsimpkins: unsupported was what it was called in RHEL3/centos3. since rhel no longer supplies them for 4.x, we picked it up and call it the plus kernel.
jsmith
Stupid question here... anybody know which package contains the glibc debugging symbols? Is there even a package that contains them?

rsimpkins: Yeah, just as quiet is the new loud :)

orc_orc
evilrabbit: you have now pasted over 30 zero line pastes in channel in a row -- please stop it
jsmith
orc_orc: Which one?

turnpike420: I do, but then, I have a certain personal affinity for the message.
