when I upload a file to a folder using ftp, if I stat the folder the modify/change times don't change. on a previous centos-based server they did. is there any way I can force it to update?
AntonTakk
why would the change time change if you only stst the directory?
RZKESP
Hello
Can someone help me out?
I am very new to CentOS and Redhat/RHEL in general...
Right now, I am trying my hardest to setup a Samba PDC/OpenLDAP server (all integrated)
I want to be able to use PDC/Samba/OpenLDAP/DNS on the same computer
Can someone help me achieve this...
Any help is fine--
I have reasonable knowledge in linux (Gentoo)
Anyone alive?
AntonTakk
eh?
RZKESP
I guess CentOS doesn't have a very good IRC community...
(+1 for Gentoo)
Right now, I am having conflicts
AntonTakk
"conflicts" ?
RZKESP
Transaction Check Error
AntonTakk
in?
RZKESP
openssl-0.9.7a-43.8

AntonTakk
ok, doing what?
RZKESP
Let me ssh into the machine
rob__
AntonTakk: the times should change because the folder has just had a file uploaded to it
RZKESP
I need to copy this
AntonTakk
RZKESP: don't paste in channel, paste to a pastebin and then link in the channel
brb
RZKESP
(as I am new to CentOS, I don't know this) Where is the error log for yum stuff>
I want to be able to copy that error
I found it
Actually... That doesn't show it...
daMaestro
are you using x86_64?
RZKESP
Me>
Me?
daMaestro
yes
RZKESP
Yes
I am trying to do Samba/openldap backend with PDC support on the same computer--
could my arch have something to do with it?
daMaestro
yum --exclude=\*86 yumcommand options
RZKESP
will that fix my openssl problems?
daMaestro
no.. it sounds like a 32bit v 64bit packaging problem
er.. yes
lol
RZKESP
openssl is conflicting with openssl
daMaestro
yes.. and that is 32bit v 64bit.. what is the yum command you are trying to run?
RZKESP
yum install mc samba-common samba openldap-clients perl-XML-NamespaceSupport perl-XML-SAX glibc-kernheaders glibc-headers glibc-devel cpp perl-HTML-Tagset perl-HTML-Parser perl-Convert-ASN1 perl-URI perl-libwww-perl perl-Digest-SHA1 openldap-servers perl-LDAP gcc
daMaestro
ok.. so 'yum --exclude=\*86 install mc samba... etc'
RZKESP
Let's see...
If it works, I am forever grateful
daMaestro
it should if you are seeing the same issue i have ran into
RZKESP
I have been at doing the ldap/samba/pdc thing for two months

daMaestro
eww
RZKESP
It is (way!!) too difficult in Gentoo...
I have been at* the
daMaestro
check out the fedora directory server
RZKESP
Wah?
daMaestro
i mean i like openldap.. but .. well the 2.2 packages sorta suck
RZKESP
I have been dying to find a distro with that
daMaestro
you can just install it
RZKESP
I need this:
daMaestro
centos and fedora support it
RZKESP
A windows domain (PDC) / Samba master / databased login stuff / etc (security things too)
daMaestro
http://directory.fedora.redhat.com/wiki/Download .. just get the RHEL 4 version
RZKESP
Will it give me the things I just listed
daMaestro
well FDS can sync with an active directory
RZKESP
I need databased login / auth for corporate auditing reasons
daMaestro
i dunno if it can be a master
however, if you get samba to use ldap you should have a similar setup
RZKESP
Question: Is there a linux Active Directory?
daMaestro
FDS seems to be the best choice when I have looked around
RZKESP
We do not have any Windows Server paraphenalia...
daMaestro
the openldap 2.2 packages.. umm.. just are not fun
RZKESP
yeah
Getting it to work has made me gain some grey recently
daMaestro
check out fedora directory server.. i moved to it from openldap and like it a lot
RZKESP
Question:
daMaestro
getting it to work is not th hard part...
RZKESP
The company I work for is super-poor
daMaestro
recovering from a disaster sucks
RZKESP
They only have one server
Can I put the ADS/PDC/Samba/etc on just it
It will also run MySQL as well...
daMaestro
sure.. but don't expect wammo performance
RZKESP
The place only has 12 employees
=) Performance is not an issue with 12 employees
Can you help me buddy
I actually need someone to hold my hand on this sadly enough...
I am new to CentOS/Redhat/ RHEL stuff...
LuvRedheadz
you better think about another distro then
RZKESP
How is Feodora Directory Server controlled?
Is it web admin?
daMaestro
there is a console
and you can also use any ldap tools you want
or write ldif
RZKESP
LuvRedheadz: I learn quickly... I mastered Gentoo-- but Gentoo cannot help me with OpenLDAP being the way it is
daMaestro
FDS is just a really good ldap server; IMHO
AntonTakk
RZKESP: http://directory.fedora.redhat.com/wiki/Howto:Samba
daMaestro
thanks AntonTakk
RZKESP, read the directory server wiki
AntonTakk
i set it up once, never used it, but got samba and FDS talking
RZKESP
Right now, I have a minimal install
My yum installs failed at the check -- so it is still clean
AntonTakk: Can I do it on the same system?
AntonTakk
you'll want to setup and get bind 9 forward and reverse going first thou
RZKESP
AntonTakk: Or did you do it on two separate PCs?
AntonTakk
RZKESP: yeah, it's just a matter of the address you tell samba to connect to for the ldap server
RZKESP
I guess loopback will be what I use to get all of this working within the same computer
I will be seeing 127.0.0.1, a lot, for the next few hours
AntonTakk
yeah, that should be fine, and plenty fast :)
RZKESP
Security I am not worried about... Integrating all onto one system isn't security conscious.
However, my Gentoo box firewall still has yet to be broken by me or my friends.
AntonTakk
RZKESP: just follow that howto step by step, and you'll have samba and FDS talking in almost no time
RZKESP
Gotta' love ricer-style firewall boxes =)
Thank you!
Alright
So this will take care of these things:
AntonTakk
RZKESP: like I said thou, if you intend to setup DNS, do that first, cause FDS (by default) likes to have a working DNS server
RZKESP
PDC/Samba server/Windows Domain/db auth-users, right?
Hobbes`
is there php rpm with xslt/sablot support available for centos ?
RZKESP
I have a DNS on my firewall box with dnsmasq... Will that work?
AntonTakk
RZKESP: yeah, as long as you configure samba to be the PDC
RZKESP: does it resolve internal addresses?
daMaestro
use winbind?
RZKESP
ahh... I need a winbind DNS
(my mind is mush today)
AntonTakk
winbind??
daMaestro
yeah.. i think it is the samba WINS service
RZKESP
I will just make the DNS on the server as well
Internal resolve
AntonTakk
WINS does the same thing as bind, but it _IS_NOT_ DNS
RZKESP
I will take down the dnsmasq DNS since it is pretty much useless IMO
daMaestro
correct.. but for the internal uses.. on a windows network.. what good will bind do?
RZKESP
WINS, do I need a WINS server as well? Or is that taken care of?/
daMaestro
(other then provide DNS service)
RZKESP
(taken care of in FDS/Samba is what I mean)
AntonTakk
daMaestro: well, if he is trying to replicate an AD setup in linux...
daMaestro
"Winbind unifies UNIX and Windows NT account management by allowing a UNIX box to become a full member of an NT domain. Once this is done, the UNIX box will see NT users and groups as if they were native UNIX users and groups, allowing the NT domain to be used in much the same manner that NIS+ is used within UNIX-only environments." .. guess i was wrong
RZKESP
Someone just tell me what I need to do to get this working in one box?
daMaestro
maybe the samba services also take care of the WINS stuff.. but i think this means you need a DHCP server that will tell the clients where the WINS server is .. or set samba to force elections and force itself to the be the master
RZKESP, you need to read
RZKESP
daMaestro: Lucky for me, my DHCP does that!
w00t!
AntonTakk
RZKESP: you are trying to replicate an AD setup in a single linux box, right?
daMaestro
then also configure samba to be a WINS server.. and you will have much quicker network 'browseing' and should be able to 'ping windowsMachineName'
RZKESP
woops
yes
daMaestro
but I need to learn.. and you will learn "NO SPOONS IN #centos"!
lol
RZKESP
I just want my Windows XP peeps to be able to connect to domain
AntonTakk
ok, here is what you need:
RZKESP
Have databased auth
Have a file server
and that is about it..
