huhu
someone there?
donavan
distiller: read the /topic
dan__t
no
darthwonka
is there a yum repo for srpms? specifically for kernels?
Zerberus
use yum-utils
stormzen
the sort command is seriously driving me batty... anyone have an idea why it just ignores the '.' and '/' characters when it sorts... and how to make it stop?
Evolution
stormzen: you sorting directory listings?
tuxus
stormzen: I didn't even know sort knows those parameters. If so, could you use those inside asterisk-ses (*)
k31th
guys, i want to install proxy_html_module for apache 2 i cant find it in yum...
wats my options i dont want no source installs on this box. Not if i can help it

Evolution
build yer own rpm.
or use the included mod_proxy and quit yer whining
:-P
k31th
Evolution: I have a feeling thats enabled let me check, I could be wrong
Evolution
not by default it isn't
darthwonka
yum-utils isn't very intuitive.. I can't seem to pull the kernel source.
" yumdownloader --source kernel" doesn't work as I hoped
Evolution
darthwonka: it requires that createrepo is run against the source rpms also.
this is not the case for the centos repositories.
you'll have to fetch it the old fashioned way by opening a browser.
k31th
Evolution: getting an error when starting httpd. I have the mod_proxy module loaded ok... buts throwing this when doing a restart
Invalid command 'ProxyHTMLURLMap', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
Evolution
that's pretty straight forward.
donavan
why are you trying to download the kernel source?
Evolution
your config sucks
k31th: man mod_proxy and see what you're allowed to use.
k31th
lol, cocky
Evolution
I don't think that's one of the available options.
k31th
im following a howto on apache week
Evolution
k31th: howto's are general guides, not step by step pathways to blindly follow
you're not baking a cake, it's not a recipe.
donavan
but I want a pony Evolution
pony
NO pony for donavan!!!
darthwonka
donavan: My soundcard isn't supported in the default kernels
Evolution
darthwonka: you're certain of this? you sure it's not just muted (as is the default)?
k31th
what is this pony stuff you guys speak of ?
pony
(Action) tosses her head
Evolution
bad pony!
(Action) kicks the pony

pony
(Action) pins her ears back
k31th
(Action) kicks the pony
pony
(Action) grimaces
Evolution
/kick k31th
pony
(Action) gallops round and round the channel mercilessly stomping on Evolution and k31th repeatedly
Evolution
oops, damn leading spaces.
darthwonka
Evolution: Positive
donavan
what sound card?
k31th
thanks!
darthwonka
Evolution: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS shows up in lspci -v -- but I get 'no soundcard detected'
Evolution
donavan: you know what's amuzing? My contract work ends at 5pm today, but since I'm salaried and 'on call', I have to go to a meeting in 30 minutes.
(Action) has every intention of being an ass at said meeting.
FaLCoN
where could be httpd directory to upload my http files ? :(
range
FaLCoN: What does your httpd.conf say about it?
FaLCoN
let me have a look
donavan
Evolution: behave yourself
stormzen
evolution, yes.
(I'm sorting directories. )
FaLCoN
conf conf.d logs modules run
Zerberus
Evolution: keep your pants on
FaLCoN
on etc/httpd,
donavan
Evolution: in other words, resist the urge to be yourself -- it could be a test
range
FaLCoN: I know that. What does your httpd.conf say about the location of your html files?
FaLCoN
ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"
donavan
(Action) is scared
FaLCoN
which line must I look ?
Zerberus
FaLCoN: sure you did read the apache docs? watch out for "DocumentRoot" (spoon)
FaLCoN
I'm a beginner
I didn't read
I don't know where to read
donavan
centos 4?
FaLCoN
I don't know also Centos32bit ..
range
FaLCoN: The apache documentation?
FaLCoN
where is it range ?
donavan
this is a good starting point FaLCoN -- if you are going to be using centos; http://www.centos.org/docs/4/
FaLCoN
ServerAdmin root@localhost
Zerberus
FaLCoN
is it ? :S
range
k31th
how would i view the manual for mod_proxy
FaLCoN
ok I'm looking
range
You don't want to run a public server without understanding what it does, do you?
FaLCoN
no I know what it does :P
DocumentRoot "/var/www/html"
I think that is ?
devhen
FaLCoN: yes, that is where you put your html files
FaLCoN
ahhh ok then
thanks !
devhen
FaLCoN: you should read the apache documentation before installing/running a public server and before you start asking quesions here ;)
range
Fiver: Well, I don't, but it's not my server getting pwned.
FaLCoN
but I'm not good at English :)
and I'm just 15
I'm trying to learn ..
devhen
FaLCoN: the http.conf file has pretty good/basic explanations of each variable in the file.
lol when i was 15 i had to reinstall every 2 months because i would screw the whole system up playin around as root
FaLCoN
:P
uname -a: Linux WorldofCS 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL #1 Fri Jul 7 19:24:57 CDT 2006 i686
uid=48(apache) gid=48(apache) groups=48(apache)
Safe-mode: OFF (not secure)
How can I secure myself ? :(
can that be rooted ?
devhen
what is this worldofcs stuff?
Zerberus
i think "cs" stands for something R-rated
devhen
FaLCoN: its not Jul 7
FaLCoN
ow
how can I set the date
worldofcs is mine
worldofcs.org
I'm selling CS Server
Zerberus
devhen: that is the date of the kernel build
devhen
oh yeah!.. i feel stupid
hughesjr
FaLCoN: the best thing you can do to protect yourself from apache issues is learn to use SELinux and turn it on
donavan
and keep php on devhen's boxes
FaLCoN
SELinux
!google SELinux
devhen
?
k31th
lol...
FaLCoN
:)
I've just tried if the channel has a bot
devhen
ya sure have. what u talkin bout donavan?
hughesjr
FaLCoN: http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/docs/html/rhel-selg-en-4/
tuxus
stormzen: might this help? http://www.kim.biyn.com/book/print/85 perhaps with some adaptation you'll get what you want
hughesjr
FaLCoN: chapter 6 is not applicable to CentOS :)
stormzen
is that link valid, tuxus?
tuxus
sorry - eliminate the "www"
stormzen
kk - ty.
devhen
hughesjr: i cant get httpd to read my home dirs unless i disable SELinux for httpd entirely. ??
even though I have allow httpd to read home dirs checked
stormzen
tuxus, thank you, but no. I need the whole path in a recursive listing.
devhen
that a common thing? it happens to me with every default install of centos i do
stormzen
I'm totally floored that the slash and dot are just ignored by sort...
donavan
stormzen: what are you trying to sort?
stormzen
I have this kind of thing: find . | sort > textfile.txt ....
I am attempting to get a listing of files on a network drive and dvd rom and compare them for missing files.
donavan
man diff
stormzen
diff can do the job, but only if it sorted correctly.
sort happily ignores both slash and dot, so it is never sorted correctly.
FaLCoN
http://62.68.192.79/cpu.php
what do you think ?
donavan
have you read the diff man page?
stormzen
yes.. many times.
donavan
so why does diff fail?
stormzen
possibly, I just never saw what I should have, though... but I read it many times.
diff fails because sort fails.
darthwonka
well.. yumdownloader cant find kernel source for x86_64 CentOS 4.3.. not sure what the deal it.
stormzen
the two have to work together, or diff thinks something is changed rather than missing from one path or another.
donavan
darthwonka: there is only one source rpm
stormzen: you make no sense to me
darthwonka
yeah.. but it didn't find any
donavan
what diff command are you using?
devhen
darthwonka: yum list kernel*
« prev 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 next »
