hmmhesays
what is the best way to load a module on start in centos
Evolution
hmmhesays: depends on when you need it. you can add it to the initrd image so that it's present on boot (helpful for scsi controllers) or add it to /etc/modprobe.conf so that it's available later on
hmmhesays
i looked at moprobe.conf , where is the documentation for that?
range
In the manual page?
Evolution
man modprobe.conf certainly seems to contain a wealth of information.
hmmhesays
haha, yeah sorry
tparcina
where from can i download wine 0.9.19 for centos 4.3?
range
tparcina: The kbs-CentOS-Extras repository has it. See <http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories>
tparcina
another question, with cenot os, can i use fedora's and RH rpm's? are they completly the same?
thank's range, i'll check

range
tparcina: No and maybe, depending on which version the RH rpms were built for.
Evolution
I use gentoo rpms on my centos boxen.
tparcina
range, no, kbs has wine 0.9.16, i'm looking for 0.9.19
AntonTakk
any of you have any experience with the cluster suite stuff?
Evolution
AntonTakk: yes. some people here do.
tparcina
Evolution: have you experienced any problems because of that?
range
tparcina: Then I don't know. You might be able to rebuild the fc5 src.rpms.
Evolution
tparcina: I was kidding. you should only use rpms for things built specifically for your distro.
AntonTakk
(Action) is considering making his old 400-450 MHz boxen in to a cluster after upgrading the servers on the network
Evolution
tparcina: for centos4, you can use RHEL4 packages as they're binary compatible
fedora and other distros are not.
tparcina
Evolution, range: can i use RHEL4 rpm's for centos 4.3?
ok, thank you!
range
See above
tparcina
yes, i was typing when he ...
Evolution
tparcina: you may also check http://centos.karan.org/el4/extras/testing/i386/ for the versions you want
range
Ah, I always forget that.
tparcina
there is 0.9.17 version - i'll have to satisfy with that
thank you both
hmmhesays
welll that was an interesting read
rado2
what prog editors come stock in 4.3?
range
At least joe, vim, emacs, kate and gedit.
rado2
you do code, range?

range
nope. Just normal household tasks.
rado2
I'm not crazy bout emacs
gonna look at kate...but seems like Jedit is pretty hot right now but not stock w/centos
Zerberus
rado2: if you do PHP, then maybe http://www.gphpedit.org/features.phtml is worth to look at
Dyson_
or if you've got much memory you might want to look for phpeclipse
rado2
Zerberus, hey!
Zerberus: you be here for awile yet?
Zerberus
rado2: sorry to say, no, have an early date on monday and it is 0:32am already

Zerberus

knight555
hi guys, how would i add a route to, 172.29.1.112 gateway is 0.0.0.0 mask 255.255.255.248 on eth0
torbjorn
you typically add routes to networks, not hosts
LuvRedheads
man route
torbjorn
and i doubt, though i havent tried, that a gateway 0.0.0.0 will get you anywhere
hm. i see that it is the network address after all
i recomend using ip route instead of route
but both would do you equally good
knight555
kk
torbjorn
something like ip route add 172.29.1.112/29 dev eth0
if you have an address in this range on the nic, it will be added automatically
Zerberus
i would use the way the network scripts on centos work: for a device spefic route which is not already set by the device config ifcfg-<device>, to set it using route-<device>
torbjorn
yes, if these are permanent settings, it should be put there
rado2
I gotta lean on y'all a bit...
I want to install the following:
gphpedit-0.9.80-4.fc5.src.rpm
and I have never done install from source before
Evolution
that's a source rpm. installing it won't get you anything but code.
rado2
hi Ev
kk
dtm
rado2: rpmbuild --rebuild gphpedit-0.9.80-4.fc5.src.rpm
rado2
kk thx
dtm
rado2: and make sure you've installed 'rpm-build' rpm first and any other deps
rado2: with yum
rado2
ut oh
dtm
rado2: you might even possibly try the binary first.
rado2
lemme see if there is a bin first
oh yes!
grrrr oh no maybe lol
wonder if dag be handling this
dtm
where'd you get the srpm
rado2
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/extras/5/SRPMS/gphpedit-0.9.80-4.fc5.src.rpm
the binary seems wrong
dtm
why
rado2
Could not read
wouldn't dload
gonna see what dag has
dtm
what?!
then try again
rado2
oh fedora?....no dice
I do have the src tho
lemme try follow your instructions w/that k
[root@rbmain2 gphpedit]# rpm -q rpm-build
rpm-build-4.3.3-13_nonptl
dtm: that looks good huh?
dtm: what you wanted huh?
wow...almost better than sex!
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.83277 (%build)
uh oh
denisbr
Good Night
rado2
nite denisbr
denisbr
For instalation the CentOS using the Option Servers, I need of the 4 cds ?
rado2
ummm
at least 3 I guess
I install everything it takes all 4
denisbr
rado2, ok, I go do download of the CD 3 and 4
rado2
you need ot get the whole enchillada first
go to centos...the dload thang...then do the bittorrent
get all 4 cds
isos rather
check the md5
but it's be ok
then burn em
it's ok
denisbr
rado2, the bittorrent is more slow (in the my opinion), I downloaded using the ftp mirror.
rado2
whatever floatsa
I like the torrent cuz it's oh...should be say, easier on the centos organization
denisbr
rado2, humm ... what the address for mirror using bittorrent ?
rado2
really dunno like that......go to centos site...if I remember correctly they'll guide you right thru it
Evolution?
Evolution, you here dude?
Evolution
no
dtm
rado2: yeah good attitude, regarding bittorrent
rado2: you have the opportunity to contribute that way
denisbr
ok
I go try to get CentOS using bittorrent
rado2
dtw: my feellings anyway
dtr: I did what you said... and I get the following
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.83277 (%build)
LuvRedheads
it's not gonna build but if you wanna waste your time.....
rado2
well I sure don't wanna waste my time I just want gphpedit somehow
Evolution
rado2: what did you want?
LuvRedheads
install Fedora
rado2
uggg
ic your point
LuvRedheads
that app requires much newer libs
rado2
sok ev.... denisbr was askin...and I didn't wanna give wrong info
LuvRedheads, what to do?
go the tar.gz route?
LuvRedheads
no
rado2
kk
LuvRedheads
you still need newer libs
basically.. working FE software is in z00dax 's repo .. if it's not ...
rado2
but you saying I can't run it in 4.3 here?
grrrrr ...I try to run centos as pure as I can...
