And you edited it by hand ...
andr3iv
at the end i added a line
to mount my ntfs
filesystem
range
But that shouldn't have messed up your fstab. Can you paste that to a pastebin?
andr3iv
one sec
Kennie
does the DIR_MODE option in /etc/adduser.conf work too on centos? not sure if does...
andr3iv
http://pastebin.ca/138927 here is the paste bin
this is how it looks after i added that line
range
And which error do you get when you try to mount the cdrom?
andr3iv
so.. can anyone help me?
range
You have an additional space in line 10 in front of /dev/hda1. You should remove that.

Cobra
and did you try commenting out the line you added '#' to see what would happen?
andr3iv
i tried what u suggested.. it still doesn`t work.. can anyone put in a pastebin his working /etc/fstab ?
range
andr3iv: Which error do you get when trying to mount the cdrom?
Because the fstab looks okay.
andr3iv
i`m puting the error in a fastbin now
pastebin*
http://pastebin.ca/138943
range
andr3iv: Now isn't that error message quite clear?
Let me guess, you're using nano as an editor?
andr3iv
i`m using the editor from krusader
what should be the final line?
range
That's the first error: You need to have a newline at the end of the last line.
Which every normal editor does automatically.
So you should press return at the end of the line if yours doesn't.
And the error doesn't seem to have anything to do with a broken fstab - is /dev/hdb already mounted?
andr3iv
i don`t think so..
i try to see it in knoqueror and get this error
range
andr3iv: Because normally it gets mounted automatically under KDE or Gnome.
andr3iv
so.. what do i do with that last line ?
range
Didn't I just tell you?
Cobra
add and extra line (or two! :) )
(Action) pulls a tooth for range
:P
andr3iv
and put what in it? empty line`s?
joey[]
why does my postfix forwards my email?
range
andr3iv: 17:44 range | So you should press return at the end of the line if yours doesn't.
IRC isn't write only.

it still dosen`t work
range
We should put that somewhere in the topic of this channel.

range
andr3iv: What doesn't work?
andr3iv
i pushed return..
range
Have you looked if the cdrom actually already *is* mounted?
Simon2
why doesn't "yum update httpd" bring my apache up to the current version?
range
"mount" will tell you.
andr3iv
omg.. it finnaly works..
thx range for being patient :)
range
Simon2: It does. Depending on what you mean with "current version".
Simon2
apache website: current version 2.0.59
my server: current version 2.0.52
range
Simon2: So?
CentOS doesn't work that way.
Simon2
so there are some serious security flaws with 2.0.52
range
Simon2: No, there are not.
At least not in CentOS.
Read the backporting link which is referenced in the /topic
Simon2
buffer overflow 'egg' flaws
range
Simon2: No, there are *not*.
Simon2
what's the url for you box
range
Simon2: What?
Simon2
are you running apache? What's your box ip
I'll show you
range
Simon2: You do not seem to understand: Security fixes get *backported* to the version CentOS 4 ships with. Read the backporting link referenced in the /topic.
Simon2
kooky
range
No.
Normal for any enterprise operating system. You do *NOT* want to push new versions on users, because that might break something.
minipanda
hi, range Evolution, my issue for subverion were fixed
thanks for you guys patience again!
ddn_
hi all
want to buy a laptop? what is a good hardware compatibility choice for centos?
philwyett
ddn_, I personally have a Sony VAIO VGN-FS415M with CentOS 4.x on it. Everything works fine bar the internal modem and I have never tried to get it working.
ddn_
philwyett, ok

bruce1
hi...
any centos gurus here....
i'm looking to build centos from source...
need as many pointers as possible!
Cobra
that's kind of crazy...
dtm
bruce1: w h y ?
Cobra
linux from scratch, jsut do it
bruce1
dtm - it's a project i'm working on.. i'm also going to need to create a debug OS..
so. my question is still where do i find the files/any actual correct docs
Evolution
bruce1: all the src rpms are provided
there are no real 'how to build' docs, but the scripts used are also on the mirrors.
however, there is no support for this
if you undertake it, you'd better be smart enough to figure out your own errors.
Cobra
ack! it's an Evolution!
want cvsd for centos? it's got a spec and everything, rather easy to build really.
Evolution
woohoo
Cobra
woohoo indeed.
Evolution
sure.
Cobra: although, surely you're aware that cvs is dead tech
it's gone the way of the dodo and dialup
:-P
Cobra
Evolution, http://e.kevb.net/files/RPM/CENTOS43/
Evolution, don't not speak such evil. With a name that starts with E, you should know better.
:D
Evolution
hehehe
Kennie
umask is like... 666-<umask>=<chmod> ? eg.... 666-066=600
Evolution
when did centos hit version 43?
Kennie: yep, that's generally how the math works.
bruce1
Cobra - if you don't mind.. what is the cvsd file that's at the link you posted..
Kennie
\o/
Cobra
Evolution, that's a straight build... if you have default params to rpmbuild then it needs rebuilding... oh, and I didn't sign it...
bruce1, you aren't allowed. :P
silly build centos from src guy.
Kennie
and a question about SELinux.. some ppl said I should use SELinux on my webserver since I running mod_ruid... anyone got a good tutorial orso? Can't find any :x
Evolution
Cobra: that's fine. I'll rebuild it in a proper env, sign it and toss it in dev.
Kennie: www.centos.org/docs/4/
there's an selinux guide in there.
range
Kennie: <http://www.centos.org/docs/4/> has a selinux guide
Cobra
Evolution, I guess I should finish setting it up and verify it all works then?
Kennie
ty
Evolution
also the fc3+apache selinux guide is good.
although not completely applicable
bruce1
Cobra - ?????
Evolution
Cobra: !!!!!
Cobra
Evolution, bruce1, XXXXXXX
Evolution, is there a default name for centos 4.3 you would prefer I name that dir?
Evolution
Cobra: nah, just giving you sh*t :-P
Cobra
good.
:P
Evolution
Cobra: would you mind publishing the src.rpm as well?
freaking gpl hater :-P
Cobra
Evolution, dude, tgz baby. http://ch.tudelft.nl/~arthur/cvsd/downloads.html
range
Evolution: He just doesn't want to show his spec file :)
Evolution
range: hehehe
Cobra: why aren't you using subversion?
Cobra
it has a spec file... and you could extract the spec from that...
(Action) smacks range for good measure
donavan
I want a pony
pony
donavan not looking good today
donavan
:(
Cobra
oh, nnnnnooooossseeee, the pony again
range
No pony for Cobra
Cobra
:(
hehe. yeah, I mean the authors tar has the spec, and it builds clean on centos 4...
range
pony: Want some glue?
pony
(Action) paws at the ground
range
Ermm. Clue.
Cobra
it creates a chroot in /var/lib/cvsd... does cent have a standard for that kind of stuff? maybe that should move.
range
named wants its chroot at /var/named/chroot, so I guess not really.
Evolution
var/lib is tolerable, as mysqld puts its junk there,
but it's not the ideal place
