noosphere
been meaning to check it out
IceZone
have rh9 with openmosix loaded up but that cluster doesnt appear to do what i was hoping it would
andr3iv
yum can`t find util-linux
hughesjr
IceZone: I'm not sure a cluster works the way you think it does :)
Daemoen
works for me noosphere, ive been arguing with this thing for a while now
noosphere
andr3iv, u running centos 4?
hughesjr
IceZone: if you want a LAMP cluster (as an example) ...
joey[]
noosphere, ok, working now ... btw, about spamassasin ... does it need MainScanner tool?
IceZone
hughesjr : need load balancing as i intend to operate a bbs on the cluster and when someone opens a dosemu door need to toss other bbs operations to another node

noosphere
joey[], nice one. i dont think spam assassin needs mainscanner, but use mailscanner anyways. provides an awesome web interface to check out stats and logs and stuff
hughesjr
IceZone: you also need to handle MYSQL ops
(if you need a shared database), etc.
noosphere
any 3rd party rpm packagers/maintainers in here?
IceZone
mysql isnt part of any of the installs currently
hughesjr
the load balancing only gets you sending stuff to a machine ... it does not sync the stuff in real time between machines
(mysql is one example ... text files that change on machine a need to also be changed on machine b)
Daemoen
noosphere: here is my current xorg, see if you happen to notice anything off with it for the dual head (if you dont mind of course :) ) http://compu-tech.ath.cx/mmercer/xorg.conf
IceZone
the bbs pkg does telnet/ftp/web/finger/gppher/irc but i know dosemu chews up a lot of resources in several areas hence the want to have a cluster..
openmosix didnt help was told lvs was logical solution
hughesjr
IceZone: you might want to take a look at Rocks Clusters ... it is based on CentOS
noosphere
Daemoen, config looks good at a brief glance
i'll pastebin mine
IceZone
looked d/l'd it couldnt get installation to work
might give it another whirl
hughesjr: you here for a bit and have used rocks?
noosphere
Daemoen, http://rafb.net/paste/results/g3XQQ325.html
hughesjr
I have installed Rocks before ... but not used it for anything important
IceZone
a bbs isnt important just a hobby
hughesjr
(and I don't have it installed now) ... so I am not an expert with it by any means :)
boudiccas
what repo is mailscanner in please?
Daemoen
yours has an error in the refresh rate for your external monitor
noosphere
checking
virt refresh = 60 to 60 /
?
Daemoen
yeah
hughesjr
boudiccas: no repo ... mailscanner creates it's install RPMS itself
noosphere
yep true.. 60 hz was aweful.. got a flat panel external though and dont notice
didnt have to chance my xorg.conf for the lcd to work either, jsut worked
1280x1024

IceZone
hughesjr: you know if a i386 and an amd 64 rocks will work well together or if both need to be i386?
Daemoen
* nods *
boudiccas
hughesjr; is there a wikipage or tutorial anywhere please? I'm now totally confused!
so_
boudiccas, wiki.centos.org specifically http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories/
Daemoen
noosphere: i noticed that your xorg was generated by pyxf84config... how exactly did you generate with it pyxf86config
i have the package installed, but there is no such command, lol
( and ive seen others with the same thing )
noosphere
i actually found my xorg.conf file after a lot of google searching. copy paste job sith some mods
boudiccas
so_; how is a wikipage about repositiroes going to help me with mailscanner please? :)
Daemoen
ahhh
hughesjr
boudiccas: this covers mailscanner ... it is older though
http://www.hughesjr.com/content/view/28/38/
boudiccas
hughesjr; ty :)
so_
boudiccas, some of the things you'll need like clamav will bin in repositories anyways...you'll want to know that information
/bin/be in/
joey[]
Im trying to install spamassasin this way, but it doesnt work
http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/IntegratedSpamdInPostfix
Daemoen
hrm, curiously, when does the desktop begin the actual span?
ive noticed that during the startup, both monitors activate during the services startup
so does it begin the actual span once youve loaded your default desktop?
boudiccas
my machine is known as 'gads.hill' Is this a 'good thing' to have it as two words or a bad thing please?
Daemoen
well crud, even with a fully generated xorg.conf, it refuses to do anything but cloned desktop, oh well.
Aletheuo
I have installed the php 5.0.4-5 packages from centosplus, how do I get php gd extension installed?
so_
boudiccas, dots are generally used as a domain level separator. for instance subsub.subdomain.domain.com (it's legal but your hostname is really gads in that situation) you could switch to dashes - but don't switch to underscores
boudiccas
so_; ty :)
andr3iv
can i mount my ntfs windows partition on centos 4.3 ? i followed a tutorial on the net http://www.linuxforum.com/linux_tutorials/1/1.php but when a type mount -a it gives me an errror.. unknown filesystem ntfs and no final new line at the end of etc/fstab
so_
andr3iv, firewalling? need to have portmap running as well
andr3iv
so i stop my firewall and i run portmap?
so_
well I wouldn't go that far, but for testing you could do that
I would open the appropriate ports in the firewall for the appropriate hosts
andr3iv
wich hosts? i don`t understand
i just want to mount my ntfs filesystem.. what has that got to do with hosts? :-?
so_
the firewall on your nfs server stops you client machines (hosts) from connecting
andr3iv
no no..
so_
andr3iv, sorry, my mistake...half asleep
andr3iv
it`s ok :)
but still.. can u help me with the problem?
so_
you need ntfs support in the kernel first
andr3iv
how do i get that?
so_
I believe the easiest way would be to get the centosplus kernel
yum --enablerepo=centosplus install kernel may do the trick
Aletheuo
andr3iv, any idea how to get php gd extension installed, I have installed php 5.0.4 from centosplus?
so_
Aletheuo, install the php-gd package
Aletheuo
I tried, it's not found
in centos or dag repo's
andr3iv
sorry aletheuo.. i`m new on centos.. i`m just trying to fullfill my basic needs :)
Aletheuo
k
so_
Aletheuo, if you have php from centosplus there are about 20 packages in there including php-gd
okay maybe not 20, more like 10 :)
Aletheuo
ah got it thanks
I wasn't enabling centosplus repo
so_
I usually just use an includepkgs line instead of enabling in that fashion, but whatever works
Aletheuo
k
andr3iv
so_ i`m doing that kernel upgrade u said .. it works :)
it`s done
now what?
it still says unknown filesystem ntfs
Evolution
Aletheuo: uh, small point of fact, php-gd is included for all versions of php centos has shipped,
it's a base php package.
andr3iv: did you reboot to use the new kernel?
Aletheuo
Evolution, k, I must have installed php 5.0.4 a non-standard way, I only had 4 php rpm's installed and none were php-gd
andr3iv
oh yeah :).. brb reboot
Aletheuo
I think I didn't install as a group but individually, thats probably where I messed up
andr3iv
but there`s a problem..
i am running bittorrent-console
if i close the console
can i resume later?
Evolution
it's bittorrent. so long as you have the torrent file and the tracker is active, yes.
andr3iv
ok brb then
dag
Aletheuo: the official php has gd support included, so there's no need for me to provide php-gd as a seperate rpm
and I'm not so fond of the fact that some people think it is a good idea to package plugins or modules in seperate packages even if it comes originally from the same source
Aletheuo
dag, I had to yum install it from centosplus repo
andr3iv
back
dag
aletheuo: only because you installed php5 from centosplus
andr3iv
i`ve rebooted but i get the same errors
smanic
hello all, anybody have any suggestions on getting PDO working with the centos extra PHP 5.0.4
rance
I posted to http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/QsC7hb15.html some particulars about a BIND setup problem I'm having on a new Centos 4.3 server. Would someone take a look at it please and give me a pointer or two, I'm missing something, I just have no idea what it is at this point
Zerberus
you "dig icm.hallhomeonline.net"? if yes, you instead have to "dig hallhomeonline.net"
range
Zerberus: Ermm. Why? If he wants to look up just that host?
Zerberus
range: you dig zones, not hosts, if you want to resolve icm.hallhomeonline.net then do "host icm.hallhomeonline.net"
range
Zerberus: Well yes, but it still should work.
rance
dig works on external zones by diging a hostname
like dig www.yahoo.com
anyway, dig hallhomeonline.net gives same output
but this is interesting
range
Does it load the zone when starting up?
rance
host icm.hallhomeonline.net yields this "Host icm.hallhomeonline.net not found: 2(SERVFAIL)
range
It should tell you in /var/log/messages.
rance
with my firewall and dhcp both recording to /var/log/messages I cant really tell, but I don't see any reference for any bind activity at all
I see it
I have issued cat /var/log/messages | grep "named" | less and im looking at the output now
range
What does a "dig +trace hallhomeonline.net" tell you?
rance
problem one, bind ints listening on my internal interface, its listening on my external interface and localhost, listening on localhost is fine, but I need to switch the internal interface for the external one
under dns_master_load: I see that my hosts file has an unknown RR type
range
Erm. Yes.
rance
and that my zone file cant be loaded because it has an unknown class/type
range
Ermm. No.
Ignore me for a moment.
rance
well, I know much more than I did a minute ago
andr3iv
can someone help me? i think i messed up my /etc/fstab file.. i can`t even mount the cd-rom now
range
rance: You're missing an $ORIGIN in your zone file.
andr3iv
can someone send me a standard centos 4.3 /etc/fstab filed?
rance
ok, I thought the documentation said that wasn't required if you set up your /etc/named.conf correctly
but I sure can add it
range
rance: I wouldn't call on it.
rance
ok, I'll add an $ORIGIN line
range
andr3iv: cdrom should be managed by hal which relies on fstab-sync.
rance
what can I do about the interfaces bind is listening on, that has to change else it will never work
range
andr3iv: Didn't your fstab say "# This file is edited by fstab-sync - see 'man fstab-sync' for details
at the top?
andr3iv
yes it did
range
And you edited it by hand ...
