Cobra
what do you guys recommend as good references for traffic shaping/qos on centos?
Evolution
Cobra: iptables.
:-P
Cobra
Evolution, brilliant... at last say tc goofball :P
(Action) goes back to reading lartc
spinzero
kernel: __nfs_fhget: iget failed Results in being unable to mount an export. The export used to mount fine. All other exports on this client mount fine. The same export that renders taht error mounts fine read-only on another client. dozens of exports exist on the server on the same filesystem and mount fine. Anyone have suggestions what might be wrong? Thanks.
kreg_work
odd thing here. installed bind-chroot

Note Im on RHEL AS3 U6. Ive run out of sources of info/help and reluctantly came here to bug you knowing centos is based on RHEL. I have submitted it to RH, been all over google and bugzilla. Best posts I have found on sourceforge but they too have no answers just questions.
so_
spinzero, isn't update 7 out? :)
spinzero
so_: We also have a test env which is actually running U7. Ive seen the same issues on it on one client.
JP
hi all
Cobra
Evolution, or you don't use tc directly, just iptables?
spinzero
so_: Also it was working fine before and its only one mount on one client in prod. Seems like if it were an update issue Id be seeing it all over the env of 70+ machines.
so_: correctiion... test is running update 8

can I use the rhel 4.1 xensource shell install on centos/ rhel 4.4 box?
kernel >= 2.6.10 conflicts with lksctp-tools-1.0.2-6.4E.1.i386? (running 2.6.9-34.107.plus.c4smp?)
how'd this script ever work in rhel4.1 weird must be my mess up somewhere....(I always seek for errors within)
Evolution
Cobra: I do my shaping on crisco routers with IOS.... :-p
and I tend to not understand much of it, and generally I dislike IOS.
Adria1
I'm trying to dd one system to 9 others
jbalint
hello..... i am trying to install and mkfs.ext2 is segfaulting.. :-\ is this a known issue w/ centos 4?
er.. mkfs.ext3
Zerberus
no
donofrioatwork
anyone

Hello. Are there any rpms for XEN for Centos4.3 64 bit ?
donofrioatwork
heck any for 4.3 x32_86 would be fine as well (for me at least)
I'm itching to do a kickstarted build though my bridged xen dom0 as guest0 builds........
what's that grub heal command....grub-setup setup-grub.....doh
so_
lay-on-hands?
grub<tab><tab> produces... ?
sky12345
http://centos.karan.org/kbsingh-CentOS-Extras.repo looks like it may work...
z00dax
sky12345: there are no Xen rpm's down that way
sky12345
http://www.karan.org/blog/index.php/2005/12/06/xen3_on_centos4 ??
sorry..pulled it off another site
donofrioatwork
its cool....leaning together....gonna go get food brb
z00dax
sky12345: thats my site. karan.org

sky12345
oh! cool
does that work for centos4.3 install?
im desperately trying to install xen...and running into issues.
z00dax
sky12345: the first line of that blog post has a link.
did you check that link ?
sky12345
z00dax: youll have to pardon my naiveness (stupidity), it takes me to a repository..
thats correct?
z00dax
yes,...that has 2 directories... a SRPMS and i386...
you seem to be looking for x86_64. right ?
sky12345
yep
so these likely wont work right?
z00dax
how new are you to Linux ?
( i dont mean to sound offensive. just a question so i know where we can start from )
sky12345
well im so so...i do understand that what it looks like the rpms are built for are for 32 bit architecture not 64...
is that right?
z00dax
yes it is
sky12345
z00dax: Im comortable with installing from source if necessary...
z00dax
also there is no such thing as 64 bit or 32bit architecture
sky12345
ahhhh...
stormzen
I'd like to compare two paths for changes in the path, without comparing the contents of the files themselves. I'm only interested in additions or deletions -- diff almost works, except that it throws in changes (ie, not additions or deletions) when it sees fit which screws up the count... any text utility that can do this?
z00dax
i386 is the intel 32bit, while ppc is ibm/mac powerpc 32bit while sparc is Sun's 32 bit and s390 is well.. ibm's 31 bit...
sky12345
hmmm..what is the differentian between X64 rpms and "regular" ones per se?
z00dax
there is also no such thing as x64
sky12345
sorrry...thats X86_64
z00dax
and whats a 'regular' rpm ?
sky12345
i386
LuvRedheads
rpm's built with alot of bran ?
z00dax
ok, i seem to have lost context here... whats the question again ?
sky12345
well...i am on X86 64 bit system and need the appropriate Xen rpms for that system.
is that a bit more descriptive?
z00dax
right - you should go talk to the guys at Xen in that case
they publish rpms that work on EL4, and will work on CentOS too.
sky12345
okay...cool will do.. I appreciate the help...and to be very sincere...I appreciate the corrections also...It is just making me a better professional..much appreciated.
Z00dax: thnx
Evolution
Cobra: ping

help
G4l is not working
Evolution
stormzen: diff -uN should work
actually, you'll need the -r as well
Adria1: so ask the G4L folks
we have nothing to do with g4l
Adria1
there seems to be 2
stormzen
I'll try that out, Evolution. This doesn't actually compare the files in the paths, does it?
Evolution
stormzen: yes.
isn't that what you want?
Adria1
and one didn't give credit to the first maker
Evolution
or were you looking to just see that the files were all there, not necessarily identical
Adria1
I want my setup centos on all my servers
stormzen
Evolution: is there a way to get around it comparing the files? Yes.
z00dax
whats G4L ?
Evolution
z00dax: ghost for linux
z00dax
i didnt know that Linux had a soul...
stormzen
I have a find . > structure1; find . > structure 2; I just want to know which files existed in structure 1 and not 2, and vice-versa.
Evolution
Adria1: as has been told to you previously, there are several ways to do this. dd, cfengine, kickstart, cvs/svn etc
z00dax
and i definitely didnt know Linux was dead.... that its soul was back as a ghost.
Evolution
Adria1: if you're having trouble with a specific app, like G4L, then you need to ask them.
z00dax
musta missed the memo
ah its an app!
stormzen
diff adds (c) (changes, not additions / deletions), and as a result, double-lists some of the paths.
z00dax
(Action) survives a blond moment
stormzen
a real blond one...
... almost white, even.
rado2
and I thought it was that green stuff in tinfoil in the back of the fridge
stormzen
Evolution: no further thoughts?
Evolution
stormzen: you could probably do something like 'find /foo -type f > orig ; find /foo2 -type f > new ; diff orig new
'
stormzen
that's exactly what I'm doing.
And it's not working because diff throws changes, not additions/deletions in.
Evolution
stormzen: the changes are additions/deletions.
anything with a - is present in orig but not in new, and anything with a + is in new, but not in orig
jbalint
:-\ is 'ssh' or 'scp' in the install shell supposed to work? i get dynamic link failed due to missing libcrypto
Evolution
jbalint: what do you mean by install shell?
how far along in the install are we talking?
stormzen
Evolution: Right. a,+,d are all fine... c is the one that screws everything up.
jbalint
Evolution: well it failed to copy the stage2.img and i'm gonna scp the iso over, loopback mount and then use it
Evolution
stormzen: so grep for - or + and ignore the c
jbalint
i dont know if my rws are f***d up or it's the dvd-drive that's having issues reading them.
Evolution
stormzen: you're just comparing a list of files, so there shouldn't be any modifications listed.
jbalint: no, there's no scp/ssh at that stage.
stormzen
Evolution: That's what I thought too... but there are modifications listed.
Evolution
stormzen: then you're not doing something right.
jbalint
Evolution: they are in /usr/bin alt-F2 in the main isntaller is the root shell
Evolution
jbalint: the easiest way to fix that is a net install. either fire up a webserver quick and point the install to http://foo/
or fire up nfs and dump the isos there and point the install to the nfs dir
jbalint
how do I configure that in the installer? i didnt see any option
Evolution
jbalint: use the 'askmethod' option on booting the installer
jbalint
is there any way to do it once your in the installer? is that at the isolinux menu, so 'askmethod' instead of 'linux'?
Evolution
linux askmethod at the isolinux menu, yes.
there's no way to launch that from within the install shell that I'm aware of, no.
z00dax may know a little more than me about that, he's the anaconda guru
jbalint
And I loopback mount the iso on another box and put it somewhere accessibale via the webserve,r right?
Evolution
jbalint: that should work, yes.
stormzen
Evolution: I have the files: ./atm/.bashrc and ./atm/zsrch ... one in each file... it is calling it a change to get from one to the other, not two separate > and < statements.
z00dax
no way to relaunch anaconda unless you are in debug mode and dont mind cycling back though a few loads of python lines.
jbalint
im gonna reboot
z00dax
cool, boot with the askmethod, and remove the cd/dvd from the drive once the first question comes up on screen
stormzen
I want a diff that doesn't do 'changes' ...
Evolution
stormzen: taken out of context, that's the single most rediculous statement I've heard today
short of "would you be willing to take a 60% pay cut?"
z00dax
i dont know of what the context is - and did actually think of that statement..... and it does sound odd
stormzen
Evolution: I trust you can keep in context... lol
