lets just say you should keep her away
Wyleyrabbit
ha ha ha
(Action) wonders if Evolution is always online because he's got DSL in his cell
;-)
orc_orc
Wyleyrabbit: naw - he just lacks a life
Wyleyrabbit: also, meet: screen, irssi
Wyleyrabbit
heh heh
and buu over in the #perl channel
donavan
remember the kind of guy your mom warned your sister about?
Wyleyrabbit
a quick request for some advice. New install of 4.3 coming. Better to use AHCI on the drives, or just native SATA, or put SATA into PATA-compatible mode?
does it make any difference?
Mr_Sako
isnt CentOS Extras enabled by default?
orc_orc
Mr_Sako: no
Mr_Sako
hmmi guess thats my problem

z00dax
orc_orc: actually on centos4 it is enabled by default
Wyleyrabbit: I am not sure if AHCI support is in centos4 as yet.
iirc it only made upstream with 2.6.15 or something thereabouts
orc_orc
z00dax: I should not have spoken, as I munge these locally with my install scripts, which insert a local centos-yumconf override
z00dax
orc_orc: ah!
donavan
same here orc_orc
z00dax: ./lib/modules/2.6.9-34.0.2.EL/kernel/drivers/scsi/ahci.ko
dan__t
erm.
anyone experienced with tftpd? I'm always getting Connection Refused.
donavan
Wyleyrabbit: it might work
dan__t
Even though it's enabled per it's xinetd reference
z00dax
donavan: ahci for sata2 interfaces ? interestingly thats not worked for me as yet ( using jmicron interfaces )
Mr_Sako
is there a command i can do to make sure a certain repos is enabled for some reason even though i enabled it i dont think its using it
orc_orc
dan__t: restart the xinetd and stop iptables
dan__t
Done, and done.
orc_orc
Mr_Sako: there is no such yum command
Wyleyrabbit
hey guys.
and gals
donavan
z00dax: I generally avoid intel stuff
z00dax
donavan: is a jmicron card - not intel
Evolution
Mr_Sako: if you enabled the repo, and it's not 'being used' then odds are you've either enabled it incorrectly to begin with, or you've excluded the package you're trying to get
Mr_Sako
maybe im doing something wrong, im under the impression you just need to edit /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo and put enabled=1 under the sections you want enabled
so_
enabled is implied if it's not there
z00dax
Mr_Sako: what section did you want to enable ?
donavan
z00dax: okay, my stuff is low end consumer grade junk

Mr_Sako
centos extras
Wyleyrabbit
I'm trying to create software RAID1 with my two 300 GB SATA drives, and have been following the guide on centos.org (chapter 10). But there's a couple of things that are not obvious. Does anyone know of a "best practices" document or a howto that does this? I'm sure I'm not the first to want RAID1 in software, covering full drives.
z00dax
Mr_Sako: centos extras is enabled by default
dan__t
Yeah, same error, regardless of what I do.
z00dax
Mr_Sako: what package are you looking for
orc_orc
dan__t: http://www.owlriver.com/tips/tftp-xinetd/
Mr_Sako
im trying to install "yum-plugin-protectbase"
orc_orc
dan__t: hub it and use tcpdump, per the article
z00dax
Mr_Sako: what does 'yum list yum-plug*' say ?
Mr_Sako: pastebin the output
Mr_Sako
z00dax: http://mrsako.pastebin.ca/136765
dan__t
ahaha wtf
z00dax
Mr_Sako: and what does 'yum install yum-plugin-protectbase' say ?
Mr_Sako
z00dax: http://mrsako.pastebin.ca/136772
LuvRedheads
you have to spell protect correctly
Mr_Sako
oohhhhhhhhhh, darn its proTect not proJect
no wonder
Evolution
(Action) smacks Mr_Sako with aspell
Mr_Sako
that has to go in the books somewhere
Evolution
LuvRedheads: clearly that's the yum author's fault for not requiring aspell linking for yum :-p
dan__t
(Action) stabs tftpd
Mr_Sako
make it the subject, having problems? check your typos
hughesjr
orc_orc and I definately also need an aspell module for xchat2 :)
well ... for orc_orc it would need to be something CLI I'm sure :)
Evolution
hughesjr: orc_orc needs an electrified keyboard....
;-)
hughesjr

steven_laptop
WHAT I DONT WANT A SAULT LICK!
Cobra
Evolution, stuff like http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=193867&threshold=3&commentsort=3&mode=thread&cid=15897373
orc_orc
steven_laptop: how about a Ste. or Marie lick?
steven_laptop
LOL
that was good
Cobra
It's not the articles, it some of the amazing comments. You might have to read the two parents to really enjoy that thread.
orc_orc
steven_laptop: we have both the Ontario and the Michigan flavors
Cobra
(Action) coats Evolution in the sugar water and releases the ants
donavan
Cobra: I suggest fire ants
Wyleyrabbit

Cobra
donavan, hmmm...
orc_orc
Wyleyrabbit: yes
Cobra
(Action) sets fire to the sugar
:D
jbt
g'day all
Wyleyrabbit
orc_orc, are you running the free one, or the really expen$ive one?
orc_orc
Wyleyrabbit: both
Wyleyrabbit
do you notice much of a performance difference?
orc_orc
Wyleyrabbit: I have not looked at the issue at all
donavan
Evolution: did you try the new pony out?
jbt
anybody now how to sync my squid proxy time with system time?
Wyleyrabbit
orc_orc, what does the expensive version do that the free one doesn't?
orc_orc
Wyleyrabbit: my 'expensive' one is not the current release - nfi as to their current kit
Wyleyrabbit
nfi...nfi...nfi?? oh...ha ha ha
jbt
whoaaah...any taker?
orc_orc
jbt: use ntpd?
Wyleyrabbit
orc_orc, from what I can tell, free and expensive are quite similar, but apparently free has a higher performance hit when running multiple VMs
orc_orc
Wyleyrabbit: I don't care - this is the Centos channel and that is a vmware support issue so far as I see it
Wyleyrabbit
orc_orc, right. Sorry to go off-topic.
(Action) slaps himself with a trout
jbt
orc_orc: nope
orc_orc: the time that squid display on browser upon error isn't the same with it's OS time
orc_orc: what's the matter with this?
doomgaze
How can I install a specific kernel that is not the newest one? when i do a yum search, i get this for the kernel i want to install:
orc_orc
jbt: I had no idea that squid even displayed a time 'on browser upon error', and have no idea if it is _supposed_ to be the prsent time, or some other value
doomgaze
kernel-smp.i686 2.6.9-34.106.unsupport centosplus
what would be the proper way to yum install that?
orc_orc
doomgaze: please read the link: http://www.centos.org/irc/ as to kernels
doomgaze
ok
jbt
orc_orc: thanks anyway....darn thing any idea if squid has it's irc channel?
orc_orc
jbt: nfi
doomgaze
ok, i will rephrase
in general, what is a way to install a package that exists in multiple supported repositories
Where one is newer than another, but you want to install an older one
orc_orc
doomgaze: man yum.conf -- see: 'exclude='
doomgaze
ok, thank you
orc_orc
(Action) feels dirty, dealing in spoons

dan__t
i suppose tip or netcat would be a more appropriate tool heh
orc_orc
dan__t: did you read the article cited as to: tcpdump -i eth0 -nxX -s 0 port 69
dan__t
I did.
Evolution
I didn't
because I didn't care
dan__t
Kindof.
I saw RedHat 8.0 and shat myself.
