orc_orc: the problem in the bug is using the command up2date.. I didnt test that with the yum repository.. just yum which seemed to work
Shaun2222
How can i remount a partition but remove some of the options it's mounted with? i have noexec added to /tmp and i need it removed for a sec... unmounting isnt a option, was hoping i could use a -o remount,-noexec or somthing
range
Shaun2222: Not -noexec, but exec
Shaun2222
that makes sense... thanks
iq
mmcgrath: interesting topic. There are risks with PPTP
but IPSec is not easy to install
mmcgrath
iq: honestly if its just for you (IE not some large IBM rollout or something) PPTP is probably fine.
iq
mmcgrath: thanks for the input. Yes it is just for me :)
Jiten
anyone around?
range
Only us chickens.
And we're just trying to cross the road.

Jiten
:)
i'm installin centos / linux for the first time and had an error come up could you help me?
range
Don't ask to ask, ask.
Jiten
fsck.ext3: unable to resolve 'laber=/boot'
label
range
While installing?
Jiten
install completed it asked me to remove install cd and it rebooted during boot that error came up
miah
did you create a /boot partition?
range
If so it somehow didn't get labeled.
Jiten
ya i just let the install process make the partitions and set centos to boot by defualt
miah
does the system boot?
(you said that you go tthis error after the system install had completed)
oh n/m
ok, so boot rescue mode and nopaste us the contents of /proc/partitions and fdisk -l /dev/<device>
orc_orc
smooge: concur that up2date, and not yum has issues in this
NeiSep
Is CentOS a mod of Fedora?
range
NeiSep: Nope.
NeiSep
it isn't i tought so then CentOS is a none mod of anything at all it's a plain new Linux dist?
fedorared
RHEL rebuild
NeiSep
and that means ?
range
It's a binary compatible rebuild of the Sources of an enterprise System by a prominent north american linux vendor.
NeiSep
aha thank you very much
euclid
it means it's just like RHEL but without paid support
NeiSep
so it's very good for servers ?
_blank_
(Action) thinks so

perry753
that's an opinion
:)
Dyson
hmmhmm
NeiSep
yea hehe
Dyson
wtf is wrong if the 4.3 ServerCD dies just after formatting the last filesystem?
Jiten
miah: for fdisk -l /dev/<device> is device the hd its installed on?
range
Jiten: Yes.
Dyson
this is a dl760 with the compaq integrated raid controller. RedHat 9 installs fine...
nobody?
:(
orc_orc
Dyson: partition and format manually if you wish to rule out some error in that portion of the code -- anaconda gave a traceback on hte debug console -- put it is a pastebin, and perhaps it will be clear
Evolution
Dyson: what raid controller is it?
Dyson
Evolution: it is this "compaq integrated smart array"-stuff thingy
orc_orc: the machine actually dies
Evolution
ick.
Dyson
orc_orc: i.e. no video left
Evolution
you're on your own with that trask
er trash even
(Action) wards against the evils of compaq
nothing good ever STARTED with com...
comcast, compaq, they all suck
Dyson
.oO ( com-munication )
range
Compuserve
Dyson
whatever... it works with rh9 but not with centos 4
what chances are there it will work with centos 3?
orc_orc
Evolution: grep -i ^com /usr/share/dict/words | wc yields over 1600 words .... checking
range
2.4 vs. 2.6
Evolution
Dyson: also evil. involves dealing with people. 90% of which (are functioning in the mental equivalent of a persistent vegitative state)
range
IOW: I'd try it :)
orc_orc
Evolution: Commiskey?
Dyson
range: hmm...k :)
Evolution
orc_orc: no clue what that is. it's bad by default.
:-P
orc_orc
Evolution: comely
Evolution
orc_orc: translation: modesty and decency.......
BAD!
:-P
LuvRedheads
hmmmm
Dyson
funny thing... without mkfs'ing anything the text-mode install seems to work %)
orc_orc
(Action) thinks he suggested that ;)
Dyson
orc_orc: yes, actually you did :)
dasenjo
orc_orc, I don't have the file Apache/Constants.pm, how can I look for a package providing it?
Dyson
orc_orc: i remeber there was an issue with the ATI VGAs and anaconda?!?
torbjorn
dasenjo: yum provides Constants.pm
possibly even Apache/Constants.pm
Brokensoul
http://rafb.net/paste/results/XAAq1d39.html
dasenjo
torbjorn, what is the name of the package?
torbjorn
dasenjo: i dont know. thats what yum provides _tells_ you
range
Jiten: fdisk -l /dev/hda wouls have been the better one.
Or what is on the first disk?
dasenjo
torbjorn, thanks, maybe ... I need a yum tutorial
range
As the second one clearl does not contain a boot partition.
torbjorn
dasenjo: did you type what i said?
it does it all for you
Jiten
ya hda is first disk i installed on 2nd cause 1st disk is 4gb and 2nd is 40gb
range
dasenjo: http://centos.org/docs/4/ has one.
orc_orc
dasenjo: nothing on my system does -- locate Constants.pm | grep Constants.pm$ | grep Apache returns nothing
dasenjo: on my local system, these use 'Constants.pm': http://pastebin.ca/131795
dasenjo
torbjorn, I understand now (the yum prov. command)
range, thanks
torbjorn
good. be warned it may take for ever unless you have good local mirror in your yum.repos.d
Evolution
orc_orc: it may be in the RT repository, as they've mucked with perl some to get rt working.
Jiten
fdisk -l on hda lists hda1 and hda2 with hda1 marked as boot
range
Jiten: Okay. What does "e2label /dev/hda1" say?
orc_orc
Evolution: version numbers matched mainline, for dasenjo, earlier today on mod_perl, as I recall
Jiten
says /boot
orc_orc
dasenjo: rpm -q perl please
range
Hmmm.
orc_orc
dasenjo: should be: perl-5.8.5-24.RHEL4
range
Then I don't understand why fsck won't find it.
Evolution
orc_orc: hmmm, interesting... [root@insanity ~]# yum provides '(Apache::Constants)'
mod_perl.i386 1.99_16-4.centos4 base
Matched from:
perl(Apache::Constants)
dasenjo
orc_orc, perl-5.8.5-24.RHEL4
maybe do I have to reinstall this package?
Evolution
it appears to be Apache/Const.pm
range
Jiten: What happens if you type "fsck -n /boot"?
orc_orc
Evolution: /me sees a hardcoded provides, then: rpm -ql mod_perl | grep Consta yields nothing
Evolution
dasenjo: orc_orc the Apache/Constants.pm seems to be incorrect. Constants uses Const.pm
orc_orc: rpm -ql mod_perl | grep -i const
I'm not sure what explains the change.
orc_orc
Evolution: the -i is not needed in this context -- the reason I added the longer version was to avoid the form you found
LuvRedheads
however the +beer is needed
Jiten
fsck -n /boot gives same error i reported at begaing
range
Does "e2label /dev/hda2" or "e2label /dev/hdb1" also give back "/boot"?
And what are those raid partitions?
Jiten
hda2 and hdb1 returns bad magic number...
its just 2 hd nothing special
HentaiXP
Hello
Anyone using or setup xgl on CentOS?
range
Jiten: Please try "e2label /dev/hda1 /boot" and then "fsck -n /boot" again. If that doesn't work I'm out of ideas.
dasenjo
orc_orc, Evolution, sorry .. Internet problems
yum provides says that mod_perl provides Const.pm
Jiten
no luck :(
range
Hmmm.
z00dax
ok, who turned off freenode earlier today ?
and w.t.f its now all case sensitive !
HentaiXP
Hello z00dax
range
Jiten: Look in /etc/fstab
HentaiXP
z00dax, recall me from #mac or wherever it was?
range
There is a line with "LABEL=/boot" at the beginning.
z00dax
HentaiXP: hi
HentaiXP
z00dax, know anything about getting xgl on centOS 4?
range
Jiten: Change that "LABEL=/boot" to "/dev/hda1".
Reboot should work then.
(I hope).
Jiten
ok just out of curiousity hda is 1st hd hdb is 2nd hd?
z00dax
HentaiXP: nope. not tried it on centos
range
Anyway, I'm off to bed.
Jiten: Yes.
Jiten
so if i installed to 2nd hd /boot would still be on hda?
range
And hda1 is first partition on hda and so on.
Jiten
ahh
Thank you for you help range good night
