Servo888
Does the default centos install install kde / any kind of gui?
lovelyx
yes, gnome or kde
Servo888
grr =-
I should have checked the installation I guess. oh well I hope I don't run out of space.
lovelyx
if you dont want them you can delete them easily
Servo888
lovelyx, I'll see how much space they take up. Does centos have some none gui package management system?
lovelyx
yum
Servo888
yum hmm.
lovelyx
Servo888, it depends how you installed centOS, you might have them, you might not...
if you are using command line,my guess is you dont have them
Zerberus, can I just install fedora's package? Karan's amarok rpm is too old.
z00dax
lovelyx: look in the testing repo ?

Zerberus
lovelyx: i do not recommend to choose any fedora rpm
but the master himself is already in business ;)
z00dax
the newer amarok seems to need a much newer kde !
lovelyx
i'll stay with karan's version then
z00dax
lovelyx: what vesion of amarok are you after ?
lovelyx
latest stable?
z00dax
i might be able to get 1.4.x building, not sure - will know for sure in a few minutes
lovelyx
i mean, thats the only m ultimedia app i'll use in centos. Can't work without music.
TwigEther
Might I suggest mpd and one of its many frontends? its a really great little daemon :)
lovelyx
(Action) googling mpd
z00dax
(Action) walks over to the machine room to look at some rpms
TwigEther
lovelyx: Im not sure if there are RPMs for mpd, but it is firly easy to roll it yourself. just need to get the dependancies and such
lovelyx
yup, I'll use it if z00dax cant manage to make an rpm.
Freakingme
hi
how do I manually add name servers in centOS?
Servo888
Hmm what's the basic LAMP installation for centos? yum install apache2 php mysql ?
Freakingme
L = centos, A = apache, P = php, M = mysql ==== lamp indeed
lovelyx
where the L in centos?
Freakingme
L = linux, centos is a Linux distribution
centos is based on the linux kernel
lovelyx
alright alright
hali
isn't LARP more hip these days?
z00dax
its actually httpd, and not apache2 like some brain dead debian pkg decided to call i

hali
the real release of "apache2" would be quite large .... if it is to have all the apache software :)
lovelyx
I prefer LARO
Servo888
So I need to use httpd to get apache2?
lovelyx
damn i wont type "yum info" again
jblinux
freakingme: man add of name servers...just edit /etc/resolve.conf add lines for each nameserver like: nameserver 1.2.3.4
Freakingme
jblinux: thanks, I just figured it out myself, I forgot to add 'nameserver', I only did the IP :$
it's working now :D
pablus
Hi!, I'm configurating my centos server with openvpn, I create the certificates and keys, but when I install openvpn in my w2k client and copy and paste the ca certificate, and client key and certificate I get the following error
Sun Aug 13 17:34:05 2006 OpenVPN 2.0.7 Win32-MinGW [SSL] [LZO] built on Apr 12
006
Sun Aug 13 17:34:05 2006 Cannot load certificate file I:\Archivos: error:0906D0

se_certificate_file:PEM lib
Sun Aug 13 17:34:06 2006 Exiting
Press any key to continue...
why?
there is a mistake in certificates?
LuvRedheads
why do you keep pasting in the channel?
pablus
ops
sorry
pastebin
Servo888
What is the proper way of adding init.d/httpd to start on boot?
pablus
Servo, use setup
is more easy for setup htp as services
http as service
Servo888
I don't have a gui to run any kind of setup on
LuvRedheads
http://centos.org/docs/4/ : http://centos.org/docs/4/html/rhel-sag-en-4/ch-services.html
Evolution
Servo888: do you have httpd installed already?
Servo888
oh nvm I see.
Just run setup =-\
Evolution, yah looks ike it.
Evolution
chkconfig httpd on works
Servo888
like*
Evolution
chkconfig --level 345 httpd on
hughesjr
Evolution: you are quite nice today :)
pablus
just only run setup in yor console
Evolution
pablus: there's no real need to run setup just to enable a service
Servo888
yah I see it.
Evolution
hughesjr: eh, today's been a decent day
weird_guy
pablus: try dumping the files on the config dir.. and use just set the filenames in ca , cert and key , instead of trying to use the full pathname
-use
pablus
Evolution : is more easy .... ;)
ok weird-guy thanks
Servo888
Now I've noticed yum install webmin / phpmyadmin doesn't work. Should I try to find rpm's online or add something to yum?...
Evolution
Servo888: webmin is in the rpmforge/dag repository. see wiki.centos.org/Repositories
pablus
Servo888 webmin rpm it's in dag repository
Evolution
Servo888: I don't think anyone packages phpMyAdmin, as it changes far too often
Servo888
ok
Evolution
you should really avoid phpmyadmin anyway.
Servo888
Will do
Evolution
it's prone to security issues, and is very commonly probed for.
if you choose to use it, be very sure to lock it down properly
LuvRedheads
and webmin comes in second
pablus
wierd_guy: Works!, the first step good! thanks
weird_guy
pablus: then it's just a question of writing the path of the files right.. try using "\\" instead of "\", "\ " for space, etc..
but since all the required files are in the same dir as the config, that is not really necessary
Servo888
I'm not worried about security - everything is on a closed network.
MrSako
what console command can i use to see what time it is according to the computer clock?
Servo888
date
weird_guy
"hwclock --show" will do what you want
pablus
weird_guy: i'm walking by the correct way with openvpn in my centos server, but one question why in my w2k client i get this meesage? --> TAP-Win32 adapter 'MyTap' not found
weird_guy
comment the directive that gives the specific name of your tap adapter... you only need that if you have several tap adapters on one computer.. and if you have, you should change the directive to "dev-node X", where X is something like "local network connection 1" (name of the tap adapter in the windows network configuration)
pablus
hmm
ok there we go
;)
davidn
hey guys, suddenly having a problem booting....lvm reports that it's unable to find volume group "VolGroup00" exits abnormally and then kernel panics. Has anyone seen this before know of a solution. I see lots of mentions of it on google, but no solution.
btw, this is on Centos 4.3 x86.
z00dax
ok, so there is now a newer amarok in the extras/testing repo
Bal2IFaL
Im trying to install Centos on my system. My problem is, I am using a controller card. When installing Windows, I normally load the drivers off a floppy. What should I do to install Centos?
mookie
what controller card?
Bal2IFaL
Maxtor branded Promise ATA100
/whois $me
torbjorn
Bal2IFaL: are you sure that isn't supported
Bal2IFaL
I'm not
pablus
weird_guy : Hi again, the openvpn works, but how I can see the other internal machines?
weird_guy: i only see the openvpn server
hmm
Bal2IFaL
When I press Enter to install, it starts as usual, than errors out and says "Kernel panic"
weird_guy
pablus: I believe you have to change your settings on the server.. uncomment the client-to-client directive.. that should be enough, if you have the necessary routes
pablus
weird_guy: I've just to do it.... but nothing ...only see openvpn server
weird_guy
what type of vpn? bridged or routing?
if you use routing, you need to make a route on both sides of the vpn, to tell the servers how to reach the other networks that sit behind each vpn server
pablus
routing ... perhaps I need thus rule in my iptables --> iptables -A FORWARD -i tun0 ....
hmm
weird_guy
you need the routes then.
pablus
yeah
wait a minute
Bal2IFaL
Where could I get drivers?
weird_guy
Bal2IFaL: usually you can get them from the manufacturer of the hardware.
pablus
weird_guy : Hurra!!!!!
weird_guy : Al fin.... ;)
weird_guy: I'm happy , victory
:D
weird_guy
nice it's working fine for you.. I'm still wresting with a few openvpn setups I made :p
Bal2IFaL
weird_guy, i check, they dont make drivers for linux
checked*
weird_guy
what card is that?
or better yet.. is it onboard stuff? if it is , just stop using it.. most onboard raid is crappy, unless you buy a motherboard that comes with an adaptec onboard controller
donavan
Bal2IFaL: try a different piece of media, sounds like a bad CDrom
weird_guy
not to mention that usually onboard raid is like winmodems... a big piece of inexpensive hardware that does almost nothing and eats away your cpu to do the job the hardware should be doing
smj
Hi folks.
Anyone here use postfix as an SSL client for a master mail server?
pablus
wierd_guy: well today was a good day, thanks for help I can to walk very long in the openvpn configuration road... now I need to investigate how to configurate DNS
Thanks..!!
weird_guy
np
rado2
Zerberus: are you here?
smj
^piggy^: did you really run out of windows?
^piggy^
smj: i have no idea what happened when i joined the channel
it like cycled really fast
Bal2IFaL
donavan, I used that same peice of media to install it on another computer earlier today
weird_guy, its not onboard. Its a card. My onboard one doesnt work.
noosphere
greets all
anyone use sshfs in centos?
fedorared
I use Midnight Commander's shell connection, that probably doesn't count.
noosphere
does mc let you mount a SSH "share" to a mountpoint on your filesystem?
fedorared
No.
