dan__t
Are your forums broken, hughesjr?
is there no gpg package provided?
that's interesting.
er nm
duh
hughesjr
dan_t ... let me check
orc_orc
dan__t: gnupg ?
dan__t
yup.
orc_orc
*cough* gnupg != gpg
dan__t: where do you not see it?
dan__t
It does not?
hughesjr
dan__t: my original forums where phpbb integrated into my site and were hacked a while back :(
dan__t
ahhh.
http://www.hughesjr.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,65/page,viewforum/f,13/
hughesjr
dan__t: I patched them and they kept getting hacked, so I shifted to SMF

dan__t
ah ok
hughesjr
http://www.hughesjr.com/smf/
dan__t
just thought i'd give you a heads up.
'cause your old links still point to the old forum i ugess

hughesjr
I need to edit the articles :)

Bitz
hi, what max memory size can default centos kernel 2.6.9 64bit support?
does kernel need to be recompile for max mem support?
any ideas?
orc_orc
Bitz: how much ram are you looking to use?
Bitz
as much as possible (the max that os can support).
i notic fc kernel support up to 64 (there 4g and 64g options)
orc_orc
Bitz: I regularly use 4G
Bitz
right now the system has 6g
someone is planning to upgrade the ram on it, and i don't know how much more will be added
dan__t
hm
detach-
fwah what do you do with that much ram ;P
use windows. it'll utilize them for you
orc_orc
(Action) thinks detach- is really getting into the spirit of the channel, but will need sleep soon ;)
detach-
(Action) bites orc_orc
growls
orc_orc
nice doggie ....
detach-
need caffine
@_@
i think i'm going to work without sleep
i'll drop by starbucks for a double espresso
orc_orc: we love windows, don't we?
orc_orc
don't _make_ me /op again and chase you down
detach-
:X
cowmix
arg.. I installed Python2.4 along with 2.2 (on Centos3) and Yum is hosed..
detach-
it just complains
it stillworks
at least for me...

orc_orc
cowmix: sux2beU
cowmix
'No module named yum'
orc_orc: it does.
thank god for VMWare.. time to 'revert'!
orc_orc
(Action) was thinking - thank goodness for ten tangos to ridicule
detach-
a particular o/s calls it 'last known good state' ;)
cowmix: your yum files are just in the wrong directory. do a symlink over to the new version and it'll work
dtm
what's the name of the repository which carries the more recent kernel?
detach-
compile-ur-own :D
dtm
nothx
the only other kernel-bearing repository i can find is centosplus which has 2.6.9
orc_orc
dtm: we carry no such later kernel, as indicated at http://www.centos.org/irc/
dtm
well i had one before, and i thought that its location was suggested to me by Evolution. i can't imagine that i'd have installed an FC kernel....
emergent
I'm having some trouble getting centos to recognize my WD160gb mybook(usb 2.0). I have checked fstab and the hardware browser for the relevent entry, with no luck. I tried cat /proc/modules | grep, to check for the presence of usb 2, but the output doesn't make much sense to me. The good news is I've read the man pages for fstab and mount and have a decent grip on those features =] What am I doing wrong?
kernel 2.6.9-34.0.1.ELsmp
orc_orc
emergent: does: dmesg | grep sd show a new device when you plug a powered on unit in?
range
What does dmesg say, when you plug it in?
orc_orc
range: WAKE UP
range
orc_orc: Sorry, slow typer.
But not as error prone ...
orc_orc
those are intentional spelling enhancement exercises for PFY's
emergent
I can paste the contents if that would help, but I think it's telling me it sees my main hard drive and an external fs on sda1
orc_orc
emergent: do NOT paste here, use http://pastebin.com
range
.oO ( I'm sure he pasted that from the topic ... )
orc_orc
(Action) explains macros to range again, slowly this time ;)
range
emergent: The end of the output should be enough. *After* you plug it in.
Kast-
hi, does the server iso have the source tree installed?
orc_orc
Kast-: no
emergent
okay, the output from dmesg | grep sd does not change when I plug in the device
cowmix
detach: yum hasn't changed or move.. the only thing that has been added is 2.4 of Python
range
emergent: Does "lsmod | grep hcd" give you any output?
orc_orc
cowmix: you broke modules paths wehn you installed the second python -- your install is hosed, and it will be easiest to preserve /home, /root, and /etc and reinstall
detach-
cowmix: no you see... argh.. wait a min let me ssh into my linux box
Kast-
can someone tell me how to add the source tree to the Live CD?
range
Which source tree?
emergent
command not found =\
cowmix
detach: okie.. I'm waiting.. ;)
Kast-
nm
emergent
I'll muck with it for a few more hours and come back if I'm still having trouble
orc_orc
(Action) tosses range a scooby-snack for asking teh clarifying question
range
emergent: /sbin/lsmod
emergent
ah there we go
sky123
hi...i was playing with mondo image...on CentOS and when restoring..it appears I have to go through a manual recreation of my partitions. Howver, Im alittle green with after creating a mirrored raid set for swap...and I need to put that in a logical volume...can some one help out?? I think using vgscan, pvcreate, and ?? i can do it...but couldnt find a clear answer searching for it..
detach-
cowmix: this is all i get when i rum yum.. "/usr/share/yum/clientStuff.py:18: RuntimeWarning: Python C API version mismatch for module rpm... blah blah"
s/rum/run/
cowmix
detach: oh.. I get a much more drastic message.. it can't find the 'yum' module at all
orc_orc
detach-: that is a sign of a corrupt python install, yes
emergent
what am I looking for here, range?
detach-
orc_orc: but it still works *shrugs*
cowmix: well if i were you i'd try remove python with --nodeps and reinstall it
range
emergent: For some kind of output.
detach-
i know orc_orc 's gonna shoot me now
cowmix
detach: its weird.. because 2.2.3 is my default Python install.. it fires up when just type "python"
range
If it doesn't output anything, you haven't loaded any usb drivers.
emergent
it outputs a long list
range
emergent: You noticed the " | grep hcd"?
orc_orc
cowmix: think of it this way (this is an analogy, and not strictly what is in play): python, and the RPM python modules, uponwhich yum depends, have paths which vary over time, but unlike perl modules, are not well supported on point level python changes, because the python language is itself still volitle -- you have hosed your install in python as to its include paths
detach-
range: i believe he may be looking at some lba problems like dtm earlier on
emergent
/sbin/lsmod | grep hcd
sorry
range
detach-: No idea.
dtm
yeah i was thinking about that. but doesn't USB encapsulate all that?
range
I haven't followed the complete conversation.
cowmix
detach: ok.. so when I reinstall 2.4.. how can I make sure it doesn't screw up the RPM install?
range
That's why I wanted to see the end of the dmesg output *after* emergent plugged in the drive.
detach-
dtm: nah nope
pink_pony
goodnight, silly people
range
Ride home, little pony.
dtm
i thought the IDE-to-USB bridge inside the drive enclosure would abstract the addressing.
range: lol.
orc_orc
cowmix: python 2.4 is not supported under centos
LeoG
goodnight all
detach-
cowmix: actually :P i dont know... all i know is, restore it's original state
cowmix
orc_orc: doh
orc_orc
cowmix: you got it
detach-
dtm: linux still recognizes usb drives as scsi drives, i presume LBA will still be used
dtm
i dont really know what LBA is so i'll take your word for that. ^_^
orc_orc
detach-: ????? wtf are you thinking -- this is abstracted away
detach-
orc_orc: *shrugs*
i'm reading now http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logical_block_addressing
dtm
oh crap do we have another person here trying to be helpful and stimulate diagnostic discussion without first possessing all the world's knowledge?
orc_orc
dtm: you have shown a remarkable ability to not do research; you inspired them ;)
dtm
orc_orc: no, i haven't.
emergent
okay, yes there are twp lines of output, identical to the dmesg command. so I have usb 2 then, that's good
dtm
indeed quite the opposite
range
emergent: Then please paste the output of dmesg (the end of it) *after* plugging in the drive into a pastebin.
Just do a dmesg, remember where it ends, plug in the drive and paste the additional stuff.
detach-
ok i get the idea now
emergent
uhci_hcd 32729 0
ehci_hcd 31813 0
detach-
dtm: yea it's abstracted away...
range
emergent: Don't paste here and we already knew that ...
emergent
i tried, pastebin won't send
range
Try pastebin.ca
detach-
range: why the trouble, just get him to privmsg you
range
detach-: Because I don't want to.
diowork
does cent have a lynx like pkg in yum?
range
links is installed.
Jackel
Anyone familiar with SME 7.0? heh
Evolution
diowork: both links and lynx
diowork
yum install lynx didn't find it
Evolution
(Action) calls shenanigans
