ahahaha nevermind
yeah.
vegbox444
Are root dns servers generally non recursive?
donavan
tie in to CentOS?
LuvRedheads
looks like it's been another wonderful day in #CentOS ;)
dan__t
vegbox444, that is correct.
xm_zy
just got off the phone with apple. they don't support linux. period.
Evolution
xm_zy: uh... no kidding
xm_zy: there are tools out there for itunes to do what you want. they're not legal in the strictest sense, but they exist.
xm_zy
i am too paranoid to ever use windows again. i'll find those tools
Evolution
xm_zy: http://www.hymn-project.org/jhymndoc/
no clue on if it will work for you or not.

xm_zy
thanks

marc2112
hi. Is anyone here a star at configuring routing in centos 4.3?
i'm struggling
smooge
I was about to answer routing too
lancelan
smooge, so was I ;)
donavan
I wasn't
so_
routing isn't rocket science anyways, not at the individual machine level
marc2112
hi all. i have a network of 5 linux boxes. One is a firewall/internet gateway. One is a load balancer and the last is a web server (there will be more web servers). The other two are standby machines for the firewall and load balancers. Because of the active/standby configuration, I have VIPs for all 3 interfaces on the firewall and both interfaces on the load balancers.
I can get to the firewall from the internet and to the internet from the firewall but I can't get to the internet from the load balancer or the web server. Default route on the firewall/gateway is my ISP's internet router. Default route on the load balancer is the vip of the firewall that is in the same subnet as the public interface of the load balancer. Default route on the web server is the vip of the private interface on the load balancer.
Is there something else I should be doing? I have net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 in /etc/sysctl.conf on both the firewall and the load balancer. What else am I missing?
donavan
so_: perhaps you are mistaken?
so_
marc2112, why is the outbound traffic going to the load balancer, seems a bit redudant.
marc2112, also if the firewalls are turned on, on the firewall and the lb, you'll need rules to allow the forwarding
donavan, see it's not routing anyways, it's firewalling
marc2112
the outbound traffic from the web servers goes through the load balancers because of nat happening in the load balancer
LuvRedheads
either way looks OT to me ;)
marc2112
but for now, i'm trying to isolate one leg at a time. i can't even ping google from the load balancer with the firewall rules turned off
so_
marc2112, well I guess it's a bit off topic for here, but still sounds like a pretty straightforward setup :)
marc2112
so_: do you have a suggestion of a different channel where I might get some advice? Apologies for bringing something up off topic. i'm just really struggling here on this one :(
so_
marc2112, I use shorewall for almost all my firewalling requirements, and there is a channel
xm_zy
marc2112, I am stuggling to understand where you heard that effective statement.
anyway, I'm on my way to being windows free completely.
dan__t
hi
daMaestro
gerardocb, yes?
gerardocb
well... I'm trying to reach you via priv, 'cause it isn't a centos related question

Evolution
mmmmm ff updates... just in time to screw over the delivery of pnaelv update release.
hughesjr
hehe
Evolution: u4 was supposed to be out yesterday ... maybe this is the holdup?
dan__t
Was it really?
hughesjr
dan__t: yes .. from upstream
Evolution
hughesjr: possible. or they realized that releasing just before the weekend screws up the testing cycle.
I'd rather get it on monday, test during the week, implement thurs/friday.
hughesjr
hmm ... I would think a weekend release would spread out the load :)
Evolution
could
dan__t
Very cool.
HOw long does it usually take you to prepare, hughesjr?
hughesjr
the party line is w/in 2 weeks :)
Evolution
hughesjr: http://www.cognitive-dissonance.org/files/screenshot_cnn.jpg
hughesjr
dan__t: some archs may be done sooner ... a couple a little later
Evolution
(Action) bets that 4.4sparc(64) will be the first release out
(Action) hides from hughesjr
hughesjr
Evolution: hehehe ...
Evolution: I actaully have ~90% of the sparc64 arch done (with 4.4beta) ... it is only the things with errors that are left
(10-15 packages)
MACscr
im having issues getting a couple perl modules from cpan, anyone else having problems or suggestions where i can get them from?
teknoprep
how do i get mppe enabled in centos?
and get poptop vpn?
Mikaku
mppe?
teknoprep
is there a yum repo for poptop?
mppe is an encryption method for pptp vpn servers
clients too
hmm wow .. that should work lol
Mikaku
poptop?
teknoprep
yes
poptop
anymore questions that can be answered by www.google.com?
Mikaku
ah
teknoprep
when i edit the repo for yum
how do i update yum to check the updated repo file?
yay for help lol
do the repo's for centos suck this bad always?
there is nothing in them
its mad hard to find server packages
Evolution
teknoprep: have you considered reading the documentation at all?
teknoprep
hmmm
i have
its pretty easy
i already updated yum
i was just wondering about poptop still
or mppe
which i can't seem to find anything related on google directly about centos and mppe or poptop
Evolution
teknoprep: somehow I doubt you've consulted http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories
(Action) hears the faint clicking of keys as teknoprep checks the url
teknoprep
ty for the help
this works
well so far it should help
skrew yum
http://poptop.sourceforge.net/yum/stable/rhel4/i386/
i added that crap to yum like i should have
and it still didn't find the package
even with search
i am just manually adding the packages
Evolution
perhaps you're a touch confused as to the nature of this distribution.....
teknoprep
i am only using it becuase of trixbox.. give me debain of openbsd
dtm
lawl
teknoprep
?
lawl... i am serious this is rediculous.. redhat has lost there minds
apt-get is very easy to use
pkg_add easy to use
dtm
lol
teknoprep
cd /usr/ports
make search name=" "
easy to use
yum is rediculous
dtm
oh the loling
LuvRedheads
thank you for your troll ... please drive thru now
dtm
does anyone here happen to use jdbc for mysql? rpmfind.net yields no redhat-related RPMs and google yields an old custom one. i know jdbc for mysql is probably very obscure.
i am gettin up the gumption to make such an rpm.
Sneaky_Bastard
Evo: good job
dtm
or another question would be whether anyone here uses CRM apps. my friend is evaluating opencrx and i'm following his lead.
answering some of his OS related questions
Evolution
dtm: I thought there was a jdbc connector already?
flippo
The teknoprep program is over?
dtm
Evolution: well. yeah it's written by mysql.com and it's called mysql-connector-java and it doesn't appear in any repo.
there's only one for postgresql.
Evolution
dtm: one sec, I could swear I saw one somewhere....
dtm
kthx
Evolution
dtm: there is indeed. it's in the redhat applications server iso.
probably means there's one (or at least the nosrc for one) in jpackage.org as well.
the RHAPS iso is freely available from ftp.redhat.com
dtm
:-o
<3
*squirt*
Evolution
that's the one that has tomcat rpms and everything else in it.
dtm
ok so the server in question is FC3, which i'll eventually convert to centos 4.3
so i reckon RHAPS would be preferably?
preferable?
Evolution
either should work for you. RHAPS is a bit more polished. jpackage is a bit more recent. your call.
dtm
oh ho.
i know nothing.
and given that, at this point, i'll go with RHAPS
and i'll adapt if this app's docs indicate differently
what is the recommended J2EE server in general? jboss?
Evolution
dtm: fair warning.. it's a 900MB+ iso....
dtm
talkin about free and $0
noted
they have the rpms at ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/4/en/RHAPS2/i386/RPMS/ though
Evolution
RH bought jboss, so if you're looking for compatible.. that's the way to go.
dtm
<3
Evolution
hmmmm, that's new.
dtm
so there's no RHAPS repo huh
Evolution
dtm: no. last I tried to recreate one, a couple of the core packages had build deps that weren't provided. snaking them from elsewhere yeilded much different packages.
so binary compat was longer close to 100%.
dtm
cern apparently has one.
hm where'd those build deps come from, i wonder
Evolution
are they his, or is he handing out the rpms from the RHAPS packages?
dtm
they don't come from RHEL at all i guess, because centos includes 100% of rhel packages, right?
