JamesJames
Is there a apache/php package combination for centos?
Zerberus
sure
JamesJames
Any idea what its called? I cant find it in yum

lymbz
proftp or pureftp for an ftpd?
JamesJames
i installed apache + php seperately but without YUM, i think its pobably a better idea to use the YUM packages for ease of upgrade later
i have always used proftpd
Didnt like pureftpd....
lymbz
aiiiiiiiiiiiiight
Zerberus
JamesJames: yum install httpd php
lymbz: do you need an advanced setup? if not use vsftpd which ships with centos
JamesJames
it says they are already installed but apache is not setup to use php
lymbz
Zerberus oh.... i typed ftpd and it returned nothing.. so i figured it was a busted link..
just something simular to the default ftpd on bsd will be fine.. with users
longword
James: Both httpd and php packages are installed?
JamesJames
yes
Zerberus
JamesJames: from the centos packages it is: /etc/httpd/conf.d/php.conf
JamesJames
Indeed its there
I dont think apache is loading it
longword
Did you restart httpd after installing php?
JamesJames
yup
longword
By what measure is it not working?
JamesJames
in that its not processing PHP files when accessed
daMaestro
JamesJames, sounds like the loadmodule (or whatever) line is commented out
longword
These are files in a VirtualHost with .php extensions?
daMaestro
/etc/httpd/conf.d/php.conf
maybe the addhandler line
JamesJames
its loading all config files from /etc/httpd/conf.d/*.conf
longword
You could try putting the AddHandler and AddType lines inside the relevant VirtualHost configuration
JamesJames
and the php.conf file is there and seems correct
Very odd
Soon as i try and open up a php file its like viewing a text file :)

longword
You're not uploading .PHP files are you?
JamesJames
.php files
DDB
jamesjames: no manual entry for "files" was found
daMaestro
JamesJames, pastbin your php.conf
pastebin*
sky123
hello. Im trying to setup a situation where a regular user can sudo ...but when tryping su is denied...where/how do i need to define the access rights??
mmcgrath
sky123: su != sudo
sky123
mmcgrath: I guess I miss spoke..what im attempting to do is..if user types su the system dissallows root access. But with sudo it limits their ability to do certain things..so in effect I can control what they ca and cant do.. same for denying root access via ssh
mmcgrath
huh?
You don't want people to be able to log in as root via ssh?
denver1
hi i would like to know how to mount my XP drive in centos?
mmcgrath
denver1: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ntfs+support+centos&btnG=Google+Search
sky123
nope
mmcgrath
well root and ssh access has nothing to do with su or sudo
denver1
thanx
sky123
mmcgrath: no ssh to root is easy...just change the sshd_config parameter of PermitRootLogin no
mmcgrath
exactly
sky123
yep... but lets say a user logs in..
then I want su to be disabled
I guess echoing the securetty would do that..
right?
mmcgrath
why would you want to do that?
sky123
well as super user...they can run a bevy of commands..and sorry I dont trust my users..they are not savvy yet.
mmcgrath
then don't give them the root password
lettuce
sounds like they aren't the only ones
mmcgrath
without it su is useless.
sky123: tell me exactly what you're trying to do. Give me examples because I'm just not quite following you.
sky123
so...by limiting them to sudo..and defining what they access to... they can only have a limited amount of access to folders, commands etc.
mmcgrath
why give the sudo or su access at all?
sky123
ie..something like this...
mmcgrath
you can use groups to give them access to folders.
Zerberus
sky123: su is not just to get root permissions, as userA doing su - userB is valid
sky123: su and sudo are pam controlled, so you can adjust their behaviour by changing /etc/pam.d/(su|sudo)
and there is too /etc/security/access.conf
sky123
here is a good example of editing a sudoers..file..and yes...i AM reading and taking in your responses....peter, %operator ALL= /sbin/, /usr/sbin, /usr/local/apps/check.pl
mmcgrath
sky123: you might as well just give them the root password?
sky123: once again. what EXACTLY are you trying to do? what do your users NEED to run?
sky123
this makes a good rationale aginst why i shouldnt - http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/security-guide/s1-wstation-privileges.html
mmcgrath
no I know why you shouldn't.... Sorry I'm probably confusing you.
lets start over.
PacketScan
i have a 3ware controller. i reboot the the drive attached doesn't show up in /dev/sdb where i would expect it to. the card says the drive is 200gb and healthy. when i do a drop then rescan the conntroller i see the drive only never gets put to /dev/sdb , lspci show card as expected, Nothing that jumps out from dmesg.
the the / with the
mmcgrath
what EXACTLY are you trying to do.
sky123: ?
sky123
mmcgrath: thanks...okay..Ive got developers, admins, etc all broken up in the orginazations...I need to log their activities individually, I need to provide ceratin of these people access to certain things versus others, some plain out need super user level access. thats basically it.
SeaweedAFK
Im installing CentOS now, I get to the part where it says to put CD2 in so I do. It says unable to access CDROM. So i take it out and put the first disk back in to see and it says please insert disk 2. So the cdrom I dont think is having the problem. Is it a bad disk 2?
PacketScan
SeaweedAFK, badburn
mmcgrath
sky123: you're still not even close to telling me what you're trying to do. Why do these guys need super user privileges of any kind? They can log in and run gcc.
sky123
mmcgrath: so far i have groups created..for admins, developers, etc created.. and one user dropped in to the developers group... that person should not be able to su...bu can use sudo..with limited access to logs, running certain scripts and sucj
SeaweedAFK
kk, ill try it again
reburn
mmcgrath
so use chmod and chgrp on the logs to allow that user read only access.
no sudo/su required.
sky123
okay thnks..
mmcgrath
is all they need to do is the ability to read logs?
SeaweedAFK
What do you guys use to burn ISO?
mmcgrath
SeaweedAFK: cdrecord
PacketScan
dare i say nero. :-(
hughesjr
SeaweedAFK: I use k3b on new linux OS's
PacketScan
only the windows box has a burner
denver1
mmcgrath, thats avery good howto for ntfs
SeaweedAFK
yeah im on windows now using nero
mmcgrath
sky123: for example, if that developer needs to read apache logs, put him in the apache group.
SeaweedAFK
I tried ISOburner, but it failed
denver1
are there more howto's for centos?
mmcgrath
or create a completely different group and change the logs to that group.
denver1: many. google is your friend :-D
denver1
k3b rocks
:)
lunk
what is the name of the package that has pnpdump in it?
mmcgrath
lunk: I couldn't find any packages that provide it.
orc_orc
lunk: sudo yum -y provides pnpdump // No Matches found
lunk
great, then it's not just me
orc_orc
oh, no -- it's you ;)
lunk
*GASP*
;)
orc_orc
lunk: ISA support is wayyy old, and really not in the centos hardware profile
lunk: lspci and lsusb are probably what more modern hardware should be relying upon ...
SeaweedAFK
PacketScan: you were right bad burn, new burn works :)
ty
lunk
yea, AWE 64 Gold sound card isn't really modern
PacketScan
SeaweedAFK, been there so many times :-)
denver1
does anyone use amarok with centos?
so_
denver1, try kde-redhat project
PacketScan
SeaweedAFK, i changed my media too though i only buy memorex 100 packs.
SeaweedAFK
now hopefully the other 2 work so i dont waste anymore
PacketScan
look at it this way you got a free coaster :d
denver1
k
SeaweedAFK
I ordered some cheap verbatim off newegg to install centos today, good reviews for cheap cdrs heh
yeah rofl
PacketScan
had good time verbatim.
sky123
thnks...figured it out...passwd -l
SeaweedAFK
Anyone use a VNC with their centos?
lunk
well, i downloaded the source
compiled and worked perfectly, yay
mmcgrath
SeaweedAFK: yeah, what about it?
lunk: why didn't you yum it?
LuvRedheads
(Action) really hates the "does anyone use `foo` in CentOS?"
bubblefunk
has anyone had any luck installing centos 4.3 on a promise sx4100 raid? i managed to get the updated driver for rhel and install it, but upon boot it kernel panics and can't mount volgroup00
lunk
mmcgrath: it's not in yum?
mmcgrath
uhhh, its not?
lunk
i couldn't find isapnp tools
mmcgrath
you talking about vnc?
lunk
not at all
denver1
i tried Fedora core 5 and then the 64bit version of Centos 4.3 and much prefer Centos
mmcgrath
never mind then :-D
SeaweedAFK
mmcgrath: does centOS come with one, or one like tightVNC work nice?
mmcgrath
just type yum install vnc vnc-server
bubblefunk
i'm beginning to think i need to install centos on a regular ide hard disk, and try to just mount the array as a storage volume of sorts
SeaweedAFK
CentOS is installed, but when I go to the Computer, it dosent show all 7 HD's..hrm
