Hi all, Does anyone have skype working w/Centos?
NthDegree
http://ftp.wl0.org/RPMS-rhel4-various/
there's a skype RPM on there maybe that will help you
bronze
NthDegree: Gracias!
NthDegree
if in need just google for RHEL RPMs for the software you want
or google for CentOS RPMs (near enough the same thing but RHEL will more likely turn up results)
bronze
RHEL? What is this "RHEL" of which you speak? ;-)
range
PNAELVEL.
bronze
"I know nossink! Nossink!"
I wonder what the google jiuce for PNAELVEL brings?
websae
i am running centos with x widnwos....and yet it still hibernates and shuts off on me...anyone know how to turn this off?
appreciate it
lutter
Does anybody here have mock configs/buildsys macros that I could use to create a RHEL3/RHEL4 build root ? (Assume I have yum repos for those)

torbjorn
what do you mean?
you could use --installroot I assume
Evolution
torbjorn: not at all like that
lutter: for RHEL, no, as it would require RHEL yum repos which don't exist unless you make them
lutter: for centos, lemme see.
Dovid
tying to do yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" on AMD 64 bit and i am getting erros, can anyone help ?
Evolution
Dovid: you're duplicating x86 and x86_64 for some packages.
lutter
Evolution: if there is stuff for CentOS, I'll happily try and adapt it for RHEL
Dovid
how do i stop that ?
Evolution
Dovid: exclude the i386 packages. There are details all over the mailing list, as this comes up about every 2-3 weeks.
Dovid
where is the mailing list ?
Evolution
(Action) looks at Dovid
Dovid
centos.org ?
Evolution
that'd be where I'd start looking :-P
Dovid
lol
Evolution
lutter: http://www.karan.org/mock/
lutter: there's a c4-i386.cfg and an extras.cfg in there.
lutter: you'll need to change the repo urls and some other stuff in those, but they should point you in the right direction.
Dovid
@Evolution: dont see a mailing list at centos.org
found it
tired.....
lutter
Evolution: cool .. exactly what I was looking for
torbjorn
i was way off :p
Evolution
torbjorn: yes and no. --installroot was the right idea, but mock is a much sexier tool to do that on a large scale :-P
it still has some flaws, but it's one of the better ways to build clean packages without devoting an entire machine to the build process
Dyson
.oO ( OpenVZ, Xen, VServer )
*duck*
*run*
Evolution
Dyson: hehe, not really. xen and openvz have some slight differences in the code. not sure about vserver
Dyson
Evolution: it works well for building applications
Evolution: haven't tried it for the system parts

Sacro
hey there, can anyone help me withs etting up mod_dav?
Evolution
Sacro: you'd have to tell us where it's breaking for you first.
gotta start somewhere.
Sacro
configure: error: Your APXS installation is broken and cannot be used. :)
Evolution
Sacro: what's wrong with the version of mod_dav that comes with httpd?
Sacro
Evolution: there is one?
Evolution
Sacro: you know how your mom told you to look both ways when crossing the street when you were little.. you can apply that lesson to more than just traffic... :-P
yes.
Sacro
hmm, now why didnt yum find it?
Evolution
Sacro: do you have httpd installed?
Sacro
Evolution: yes
Evolution
take a peak in /usr/lib/httpd/modules/
you'll see mod_dav and mod_dav_fs already in there.
Sacro
:O so they are
im guessing i edit my httpd.conf next...
Evolution
that'd be what I do.
technically I'd put a webdav.conf file in /etc/httpd/conf.d/
but that's personal preference.
Sacro
hmm, thats an idea
im not used to CentOS fully
Evolution
so I noticed.
LuvRedheads
maybe take a peek at the documentation too
Evolution
pffffffft
documentashun?
sharpie
documentation is for loosers!
Evolution
oh HELL no.
sharpie
haha
Evolution
we just had an 'alert broadcast test
Dyson
documentation is for people who are unable to ask someone who read them :)
sharpie
alert broadcast?
are we all going to die?
LuvRedheads
oh I forgot Evie has a big spoon ...
Evolution
as the alert broadcast test finishes on TV, the station blinks, and my cable resets itself to channel 2... the BIBLE CHANNEL
all of a sudden a church full of nuns was reciting the rosary in my living room.
LuvRedheads
maybe that's a sign
Dyson
*g*
yes... but not a good one ;)
sharpie
yeah, you're hosed
Evolution
when I come home from work, I want to watch someone getting shot, or something blowing up. Nuns do not factor into that equation AT ALL
Sacro
it was already in httpd.conf
Evolution
Sacro: it's enabled with an if statement in there, but you still have to configure it.
tell it which directory is dav enabled and all that jazz
Sacro
Evolution: hmm, is there a page with easy instructions?
Evolution
LuvRedheads
heh
Evolution
come on.. who didn't see that one coming......
Sacro
Evolution: hmm, ill bookmark and look in the morning, im too tired to think straight...
LuvRedheads
unless the nuns are in my "special" video collection
Evolution
LuvRedheads: dude... you have videos of nuns blowing up?
LuvRedheads
ya .. "blowing up"
Evolution
haha

Update on Skype on Centos, neither the static linked binary from skype, nor the RHEL rpm for Skype (versions ...18 and ...20 respectively) were able to run with centos on mt Toshiba satellite laptop. In both cases, evrything works except the microphone. (no voice) calls connect, can hear person on other end, but can't talks (I'm now wanted for harassing phone calls. :-) )Interestingly this is exactly the same way skype behaves under
Fedora core2, on my "generic" desktop (generic = cheap MB). Note this is just an update. if this had been an actual question, There would be a question marl somewhere.
range
?
bronze
marl/mark
range - just updating the channel on something I had asked earlier.
range: NthDegree pointed me at a good rpm cache but unfortunately, thee seems to be a driver issue, non-Centos specific.
thee/there
NthDegree
:) a compliment, for once i'm not getting a bollocking :D
torbjorn
bronze: tasted the mic in general?
opus_
i have used skype to make calls under centos on my laptop
at first, I had the same problmem as you
but after 2 months of debugging I finally found the right volume control for the mic. it seriously took me 2 months to find it too.
sandra78
how can i see the linux logs i need to see the logs about the system to check issues
??
Evolution
sandra78: one might poke around in /var/log
there's a rumor that's where logs are kept before grues eat them.
dec
Hi all, just downloaded and burnt 4.3 x86_64 cd1 image. Tried to boot from it but it cannot find the 'linux' kernel image on the CD, any ideas why?
LuvRedheads
skype is evil
sandra78
thanks ;)
dec
anyone? noone?
iGZo
dec: have you referenced the Release Notes, Errata, and FAQ in relation to your platform?
dec: if so, is that issue addressed? if not, it might be listed, of course it could just be a bad "burn".
dec
indeed I have. I didn't see anything mentioned. All i'm trying to do is boot the x86_64 install cd on an x86_64 platform PC.
Evolution
dec: couple things. you don't need to type linux, just hit enter.
dec
I know, I didn't type anything. I just let it attempt to boot automatically.
Evolution
verify the md5sum of the disk, and make sure you're burning at low speed on good media.
iGZo
amen
dec
I have done both. I will try to re-burn the CD.
LuvRedheads
x86_64 or IA64
dec
x86_64
iGZo
also just try booting off of any other boot cd, make sure HW is in line.
Evolution
(Action) goes to get food.
dec
good point, it is a brand new machine.
iGZo
just a thought
dec
Hmm, nup, my Gentoo CD boots.
bronze
torbjorn: opus_, sorry - I went away.
torbjorn: tasted? ah, tested, no.
denver1
hi i'd like to know how to install synaptic in centos?
bronze
opus_: It appears I have the same issue, any hints about what you found?
opus_
bronze, after painstakingly trying every single combination of alsaconf or alsamixter I got it to work
bronze
umm - don't happen to remember which combo that was do you? ;-)
(Action) starts writing a matrix up.....
dec
Hmm must've been a bad burn, the isolinux files are all on the cd and are the correct filesizes but their contents are corrupt.
Dovid
just installed DHCP
how do i see what IP's are in use ?
Evolution
Dovid: you're running a dhcp server?
or you're using the client?
Dovid
yes
server on centos
Evolution
Dovid: the ip range is what you define.
Dovid
i know
but i wana see what device ahs what IP
Evolution
cd /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases
or rather, less that file. n
not cd there.
